I have no idea how to spec my mesmer.
I plan on PvP’ing in the future with a little pve on the side, but for now, I’m solo lvling.
What should I put my points into for solo’ing?

if you’re planning on sPvPing, don’t worry about point allocation as you can freely move about trait points within the Heart of the Mists.

for solo, I’d prioritize Dom and Dueling then Illusions

Nah, I think I’ll be doing more WvW when I get into pvp

And should I go full Dom or split points between dom and dueling (For solo questing)

Also which weapons should I use for solo lvling and which for pvp? o:

I was thinking about using greatsword at range and then when the enemy gets in close, switching to sword and pistol. Would that work?

Regardless of what anyone says, the very first 5 points you spend should be in Illusions for Illlusionists Celerity.

Fantasme Bloodwen [R.I.P. Mesmer] | Andi Runi [Warrior] | Bonedoggle [Necro] | Zooerasty [Ranger]
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |

Immediately spec 5 points into Illusion. Every coherent spec includes that allocation.

10 points in Dom is highly recommended while leveling. Whether for illusion (phantasm) damage or Mind Wrack damage, your choice.

Rest doesn’t matter much and gets specific to what your spec / favorite weapons are.

Like it was said, first 5 into Illusions. After that, it absolutely doesn’t matter until you hit level 40. Once you hit level 40, put 20 into Dueling for Deceptive Evasion.

After that, just have your points suit your build- Greatsword is usually glass cannon-y, so Domination is the go-to trait, followed by Illusions (for shatter cooldown reduction and Illusionary Persona). Balanced Greatsword builds usually involve toughness from Chaos since mesmers have high base health (so toughness > more hp). Sword/pistol is an excellent weapon swap for this sort of build as well.

Condition builds usually use Dueling, Illusions, and either Domination or Chaos (for staff cooldown and possibly Chaotic Transference). For weapon swaps, sword/pistol are still good, though I usually just use sword/focus myself (for mobility). Greatsword can even work as a weapon swap here because the greatsword clones have three chances to proc Sharper Images (which you will have if you have Deceptive Evasion, which you should pretty much always have).

Hope that helps!
