LF up to date Mesmer
There is a whole sticky thread that has PvP section in Lyssas’s Grimoire
Otherwise look up some videos, try “helseth movement guide” (skip to 2:00) and vashbury guides.
If you try few people in OMFG guild you will usually find somebody willing to duel.
This isn’t the place to ask, truthfully. Most of the builds and information are long outdated.
There is also a reticence about sharing. From my POV there’s a faction that believes that Mesmer should be elite and as hard to play as possible.
I’ve gleaned a few bits and pieces by watching youtube videos and then watching them again in slow motion. Watch at 25% speed and pay special attention to the exact sequence that skills are activated in.
I highly recommend Vash Bash and Osicat on youtube. Both are very helpful but the devil is in the details. Again, watch very closely the sequence and timing of skills.
Also, be careful who you disagree with on forum, no matter how sincere. You risk being ostracized if you do not.
I am looking for an up to date Mesmer pvp guide that you recommend,
or maybe some advices and tips from people in this thread.Like how to setup your attacks with the metabattle builds.
Maybe some general tips that you consider important. As a new player, taking a look into this unique gw2 class (with a playstyle I am not familiar with from other games), some stuff is still unclear to me.
There’s a lot of metabattle builds, if you link particular ones we could give more focused advice for how to use them.
Depending on weapons, traits, gear, mode (pve, pvp, wvw), utilities, solo/duo/group, power/condition, etc etc depends entirely on how your question is to be answered. “Mesmer” isnt just one thing you can summaries in a couple paragraphs.
For starters tell us what mode you’re playing in, and tell us what weapons you’re using. That’s a good cornerstone for advice on everything from build to tactics.

Also, while I don’t agree with a lot of this, it is fair to say that a great Mesmer is an intuitive player. Becoming great with the Mesmer class does require a lot of time spent playing it, and attention to, and care with, detail.
I’m in my fourth year now of playing Mesmer. The fact that I’m still here is mostly hardheadedness. You, Ross Biddle, and a couple of others have been kind enough to help now and then over the years. Thank you.
Nevertheless, I stand by my statements. There are players who deliberately call for nerfs and who to all appearances want the class to be underpowered. I suspect this contributes to a feeling of being elite.
Help is hard to come by. No one will tell you the combos.. the skill sequences.. Such as I know I learned mainly through careful analysis of gameplay videos and trial and error.
That is why I suggested YouTube. I might have also included Reddit and a couple of other sites.
We, Mesmers in general, are hurt by this.

Contrary to your complaints, people are happy and willing to give all sorts of advice, as long as the question is asked without hiding inside an enormous wall of complaints and absurdity.

One of the best guides generally relevant to the most popular mesmer meta builds is supcutie’s shatter guide. It’s a long read, but chalk full of excellent information on how to get the most out of it.
It was created before the trait re-vamp, so there are references to builds using the old style; just ignore those. The common mesmer shatter concepts are all here though.
Pay more attention to the combos, how to use the weapon skills/utilities and how to approach various scenarios you’ll find in PvP. I’d highly recommend reading through it.
Supcutie’s Mesmer Shatter Guide
Feel free to come here for questions or clarity on anything you’re researching.

My experience has been that forumgoers wait until you come to them with a starting point, and they give recommendations based on that.
If you ask “where do I start?” they take the lazy way out and point at metabattle or youtube or guides.
Only a handful of people will post more right out of the gate
If you come with a build and say “how’s this?” though, they’ll pop out of the woodwork and make a whole bunch of recommendations.
If you suggest a skill rotation, they’ll suggest how you can improve it (and one or two will insult you for coming up with such a terrible rotation, but c’est la vie).
In short: do some homework, come up with your own starting point, and come back here, then you’ll get the guidance that Ithilwen is lamenting.
@Yashuoa:
The first place you should always go for new builds is metabattle.com. There you will find the standard builds used in dungeons/sPvP/WvW. Note however that metabattle builds are only generic builds. Once you have found a build that suits your style you should play around with it. Ask others for advice, practice duels, their takes on the build, etc. and tweak the build to your liking. Metabattle is an excellent resource for the foundations of a build, but it is not the be-all-and-end-all, so don’t just copy/paste something from metabattle and think you are good to go.

Erm… Game has been out for three years. GW1 had such completely different mechanics and the mesmer profession in particular was so different from the GW2 mesmer (plus there are very few GW1 vets playing when compared to all the new people that have never touched GW1) that you can’t honestly cite playing GW1 as any sort of experience with GW2. So I’m not really sure where you are pulling 4 years from… Clearly your anecdotes are flawed right from the start if you don’t even know how long you’ve been playing.

I have always found immense help from the mesmer community, both on the forums here and from the [OMFG] guild. In fact, I have often quoted the mesmer community as one of the more cohesive and helpful communities. I don’t know why you have such a bad experience, but judging from your posts that were reported to the mods and subsequently deleted just a few minutes ago, I would assume that your bad experience from other mesmers is largely due to your personal attitude. If you act like a jerk or take offense from every little comment, even when there wasn’t anything to be offended by, then of course no one is going to want to help you.
We, Mesmers in general, are hurt by this.
Only you are hurt by this. The majority of other players have a good time with the mesmer community.
But regardless, this topic has gone off the rails for too long, and the moderators were right to delete your little outbursts. Let’s get back on topic shall we?
