Last Fix Needed: Temporal Curtain Duration
Temporal Curtain is infamous because it does not stack swiftness. It has been that way since I first created my mesmer, and it still hasn’t changed. I’d be (pleasantly) surprised if it did.
This is a hotfix from the Betas… not the public betas either.
TC used to stack swiftness each time a player passed through it
that meant you could stack about 5 or 6 minutes of swiftness on a zerg with 1 or two curtains by just having everyone run back and forth through the curtain.
Anet claimed they would fix this fully at a later date..
that was more than two years ago
anet also had a similar hot fixed placed on shatters (that nice global CD they have) and promised a real fix “soon” when “they had time and figured out the core of the problem”
and imo this is far from the last fix the class needs. there’s still a small mountain of bugs and issues in traits and utility skills alone…
“Gw2, It’s still on the Table!” – Anet
They should just fix it so it behaves like the guardian’s swiftness, in that if you run over it you pick up the swiftness should you not have any but if you have the buff on you already, it extends it for a 1 sec. I hate it when I use it only to have someone place the buff down and my curtain does nothing.

Symbol of Swiftness applies 4s swift per pulse. Ofc, it’s not instant as opposed to TC.
I rhink ir’s “fair” but I really do think that TC should give something while having Swiftness because I can’t count how many times I haven’t gotten my TC swiftness because some idiot decided to give me 5s of swiftness right before I walked into TC (or those pesky Guards dropping SoS right in front of TC to “stack” Swiftness).
It doesn’t even stack with the random swiftness from signet of inspiraton….
It is clear the game can track who gave whom a certain buff as is evident if you mouse over a buff icon. It will tell you the source of the buff, which appears to be the last person to contribute to that buff.
I think the solution for ANET is to track the buff source info for several seconds as to not allow a person to pass over the TC line several times if you already have the buff from that particular source.
It would also have to track what skill the buff comes from which I am not sure it does now.
So basically they need the system to track buff source (player) and buff source (skill), and then they can institute whatever buff rules they wish.
This is the best solution and unfortunately the hardest programming wise, which is why we have seen no fix for 2 years.
Still wouldn’t address Signet of Inspiration’s painfully small Swiftness compared to TC.
Or they could hardcap swiftness at 60 seconds.
Or they could hardcap swiftness at 60 seconds.
I guess so, but might as well just make TC give 60s worth since passing over it 5 -6 times is very easy.
Personally I would be okay with 15 to 20 seconds as long as other applications of swiftness stacked with it.
