Little questioning
Signet of Domination also grants a 2s stun, as it’s highly unlikely that Magic Bullet alone was enough to stun you that long.
a three clone shatter, four if they have Illusionary Persona, with +10% crit chance, and +20% MindWrack damage traits, in a full power/prec build can theoretically deliver anywhere from 4-8k damage assuming he gets at least 1-2k per shatter.
Blurred Frenzy can deal about 2-3k in my experience, it may be possible to even push it higher to around 4-5k, I’m not entirely sure. Never tried to optimize that.
Phantasms can deal 2-4k per phantasm, and stack bleed when they crit – That bleed does a lot of damage if they crit often, and assuming he took the duelist tree for more Pre/passive phantasm fury and stacked pre/power anyway, they’d crit a lot. Also, since he uses pistol/sword, odds are he’s using iDuelist, who hits around 6-8 times, meaning lots of bleed stacking opportunities.
The Warlock phantasm is rubbish unless you have a fair bit of conditions stacked on you first. It’s damage scales up a lot with conditions, and can hit insanely hard if you’re just loaded down – like 6+ conditions or so.
So with that in mind, you’re looking at maybe 12k – 23k HP in a combo. with 23k assuming everything went just peachy, there were a lot of crits, and you were able to stack out 3 hard hitting phantasms either before or after you shattered and began the blitz.
The majority of the damage comes from the phantasms I would think, as each one is dealing a huge chunk of damage – Meaning you’d need to have three up fast. It’s one of those things where if you give them time to set up, you’re screwed.
Mesmer’s just kind of that kind of class. If you give us time to prepare, we get nasty really fast.
But between Magic Bullet and Signet of domination, that’s like a 4-6s stun. Signet of domination has a 45s CD, if I recall correctly, so it’s not really something we can just spam and lol about.
Hope this helps.
We can also " Diversion" which if done correctly can Daze for up to 4 seconds as well as Sword 3 which add’s a “Immobilized”
Ye thx.
Well the thing is 23k burst with 25k hp and class with portal/invis to runaway seems a bit hight to me. My ranger had 18k hp running hight damage spec, which isnt even close in damage to mesmer, and has way less hp
The question is, how did he get 25k hp with knight gears? Isn’t knight power/prec/tough? To get 25k, you’d need to be fully stacked on vit and have 30 pts in Inspiration, if that even get us to 25k.. lol
You have to realize that he’s wearing cloth and can only do this at melee range. No armor, no toughness might have a lot of HP, but it goes fast.
He’s given up the ability to stack a bunch of confusion or use feedback to throw your arrows back at you. If he’s using phantasms for damage, he can’t fool you with clones.
Mesmers are a strong dueling class in the right hands but they cannot be everything at once. Each build will have a lot of weaknesses to it as well.
Portal is on a 60s CD, and only lasts for about 10s or so after you establish it – So it doesn’t make a good “escape skirmish” tool, if you expected to go into the skirmish and actually fight. Hit and run? Sure – But fight? pfft.
Our invisible skills require either an offhand, or the Decoy doesn’t really last long enough to get away and the other requires the torch offhand, thus negating a fair bit of our damage.
Compared to say, Warrior – Who has a well known Hundred Blades combo that deals like 32k damage, and they’re wearing full heavy armor with plenty of HP.
Or a thief, who… well, Thief.
The difference is really the extent of the damage. This Mesmer had massive spike damage, but they quite obviously couldn’t keep that kind of massive damage output going over time. Your ranger on the other hand, most likely was able to just keep up a steady flow of awesome damage.
And, again, it comes down to the player. I’m a glass-cannon spec’d Mesmer who runs around with around 15k HP dealing 11k-17k damage fairly constantly. People like that aren’t the “norm” of the profession to base your perceptions around.
Our damage output is also highly susceptible to being shut down by destroying our phantasms. They hit hard, but they don’t run, don’t evade, and are flimsy enough that a strong breeze can break them. Ignoring the Mesmer may seem like a silly idea, but a large chunk of their DPS comes from them. Any type of AoE can just ruin our day.
Ye thx.

A Mesmer might have access to all those aspects, but never all at the same time. The key to a Mesmer is that yes we have alot of flexibility, but we have to be able to pre-read the fight, since once we are in, we are locked into a specialist area of all our talents.
Tested build similar to this on mesmer on medium golem 3x shatters 1600 average dmg dmg. Blade flurry 3600 dmg, Duelist like 6k dmg then shatter phantasm and illiusions you got again. The overal damage was 6×1600+3600+6k. That was 19200 damage. Probably not the mst damage, however much harder to counter then warrior stunlock with Bullcharge.
One or two AoE’s against a mesmer in that situation and you cut out the majority of the 12k damage from shatter. (second shatter is at the 15sec mark after the first one, alot happens in 15secs.
he can use one that gives confusions, too since rangers main skill is crossfire which hits like 2 times per second…
Its all situational now, theorycrafting numbers with any class can bring in some nice results, against a Mesmer the keys to winning are
1. Keep moving
2. Check for conditions and cleanse
3. Evade shatters or AoE clones.
(not in any particular order)
Well evading shaters when multi stuned isnt rly effective, as i told in first post, Magic bullet, clones run to me, if i break stun he immobilize with sword 3 and blade flurry, which leads to eating shatters/flurry and some other stuff… which is uncounterable unless you use 2x stunbreaker on specific trait to make you invisible once you are cc’ed
