I’ve recently been doing the Living Story Part 2 instances with my various 80s.

When comparing the missions between my Mesmer and my Ranger, it really felt like playing them on my Mesmer was like playing with a handicap … especially when the mechanics would insta-gib my phantasms sometimes even before they could attack.

This bothered me because Mesmer has always seemed to “fit like a glove” for me ever since launch (and beta … is why first character was a Mesmer).

I’m curious if anyone else experienced this or had similar thoughts.

I’m not trying to make anything of this; just curious about others’ experiences.

The AoE fields in parts of the story make phantasms/clones useless. The cavern comes to mind with the colossus guards.

Thankfully the story isn’t too difficult and it only made fights last longer than they should have.

The AoEs you can work around most of the time with ranged phantasms or stacking +%dmg/CDR instead of attack rate/health boosts, and of course shatter if you get the chance (since some of the bosses only “clean house” at specific intervals)

What really cheeses me off is all the “need buff to harm enemy” parts, where Phantasms don’t get the buff even if they’re standing in the field!!! Not exclusive to mesmer or Living Story, but more prevalent, and you’d expect more from a game that has an explicit “pet class” (and mesmers)

Aye, I was still able to do the story, but several missions too much longer with my Mesmer.

The buff to deal damage is one of the things that I noticed. I figured it would be an issue with my Ranger as well, but I believe my Ranger Pet got the buff too and was able to deal damage.
