Basically, the title. The build is going to be used for WvW roaming but the catch is it has to use a focus.

Preferrably nothing glassy, or relies too heavily on clones.

I’ll be honest. If you’re looking for a roaming build that uses focus and doesn’t rely on clones…you’re probably on the wrong class.

I had the same feeling when I crafted The Anomaly…

Sometimes I use focus to pull people down the tower or thieves out of refuge, even better if I run interruption builds. Occasionally #5 gives you some space to breath against range opponents but can’t expect that spinning top to do much other than being a shatter fodder (sometimes it can deal damage if you root opponent).

Go for some sort of lockdown.

Assassins armor + cav trinkets if you dont like being to glassy.

Or some mix of knights and zerk will do.

This pretty much narrows down to phantasm-builds. Phant builds are great in dueling (1v1), but becomes much less effective in 1vX in wvw roaming or group fights.

Also to make effective use of iWarden (phantasm summoned by Focus skill #5), you need to lock down your target in order for the iWarden to deal any dmg with its lengthy axe spin. So either u can run the CI lockdown interrupt build like Ross Biddle has posted above or an easier way is to go for CS stunlock build (check this build link for an example)

As for gearing, you need to play around to find your sweet spot between damage and survivability, again like Ross’ suggestion.

yeah you’re on the wrong class and game if you want a mesmer that doesnt rely heavily on clones…

every mesmer build either relies on clones heavily for:
kitten ing shatter puffs, clone death, clone aa spam, or phantasm attacks

this is to supplement for damage or conditions in all cases..

a mesmer that uses no clones or phantasms is doing about 40% of its potential damage.

I’m guessing that his “or relies too heavily on clones” meant “I don’t want a phantasm build”. Because, while he doesn’t know how to say that properly, it makes perfect sense :p

I would say some form of lockdown using CI would be your best bet.

Focus, lots of damage, cc and it´s not glassy. I won´t use it for solo roaming due to lack of condition remove, but if you got your personal condi remove slave aka Guard, it works fine. ^^
