Looking to re-roll a mes
Just keep the Ranger and roll a new char. Glamour build is amazingly fun in WvW.

I don’t think he was about to delete his ranger to make a mesmer.

Leveling is pretty much going to suck until you get to at least 40 and unlock master traits. In general, I suggest finding someone to level with to alleviate a lot of the frustration.

people say low level mesmers suck, but I just did not see it that way. I really had no issues with dps or survival whilst levelling.
Sure its not guardian easy, but its not as awful as people make out.
^ Agree and with a level 80 Ranger, he should have the cash on hand to keep him in appropriate gear til he hits 40. That alleviates alot of the “so-called” leveling issue with Mesmers. From level 40 on, it will depend on what you want to do. You can go build a mini Glamour build and run WvW zergs, build a shatter build and roam WvW and succeed in PvE, and you can begin studying to determine what you want your final builds to look like at the end-game.
I leveled my mes early on, so there were a lot of people in the lower zones to do events with. Leveling one solo isn’t the easiest. It will really help if you can find a friend to help speed things up in those early levels.
If you’re going to spend the cash on good gear to help, I would just craft it up to 40 instead. After that point you can just use blues of your level and keep them updated. Greens and rares aren’t better for too many levels and isn’t worth the cash imo. You can usually find blues of your level and with the stats you want on the tp for 1 copper more than npc price. Buy those and just npc them after.

Just don’t craft your mes from 1-80. Maybe you can craft the last 20-30 levels, but the early levels are incredibly important, as they teach you the combat basics of playing a mes. More so when you level in wvw :p You learn to time your skills such that izerk + mindstab + shatter + mantra of pain all occur within 1-2sec of each other :p
Thanks for all the advice guys, it really helped a lot!
I only crafted a couple of lvs on all my 80s (3 in total so far) cuz what was said above. If you craft too many lvls you will lose some of this “getting the grip” of the class.
Yeah, it does take longer times, but with DE chained events that should not be too much of a problem anyways (Bloodtide Coast FTW!).

Levelling isn’t as bad as people say.
Just roll a balanced spec in traits and get some damage gear go solo the areas 5-10 levels higher than you after 15, spend 5 levels in each area while doing personal story and some dungeon runs. You’ll level quickly and have fun.

I find it simplest to level to 30 and then craft to 50 via cooking and artificing (both cheap and straightforward). That gives you a nice amount of time to learn your skills but jumps over a number of levels where your traits fall behind just a touch. At 60 you can start gearing and specing to what you think you’ll run in the end. Armor getting 3 stats at 60 is why you wait until then. Up to that point just grab the power/precision armor.
