Lost cuase?
I think you’re stressing out from playing good in mesmer, this won’t really help you perform better. Take a step back and take a deep breath. You can come back to mesmer anytime you want.
I’ve tried that, I just seem to come back worse.
If you’ve had that much help and you can’t score more than 10 points in a match with a mesmer, then it may just not be your thing! I thought I wanted to play ranger when the game first came out, and while I wasn’t bad with it, the profession just didn’t really suit what I wanted no matter how much I tried. I got a thief to 80 and love it, but I roll as a mesmer now and it’s working out pretty well. I’m not awesome, but I can hold my own in pvp.
I’d say just learn what the class can do, then go play thief and counter us that much harder. There’s no shame in not performing well with a class, so don’t feel bad about it! This is all about fun. If you’re not having fun with a profession, then switch!
I’d say stick to what you can play well (like Thief), it’ll generally help your team better.
It is as simple as the class and play style just doesn’t match you. From the way you described it, sounds like you forced yourself into playing it, which doesn’t help. There may be overlaps in play style between a thief and mesmer for roaming but they still carry different rhythm/pacing. And also important to have fun while playing.
HoT’s specialisation might (or might not) improve your attitude towards the class. The perk is that Mesmer’s specialisation might diverge it away from the traditional shatter build. Considering your dislike for other builds, when the expansion arrives, there’s possibility that shatter builds might not be as relevant.

Come train with me I’m always willing to devote some time to people who ask for it in order to help them get better if I can. Now I’m no pro but I do fairly well at most things and if I can be of assistance pm me if I’m on or send me some mail and we can meet up and train on Mesmer for a while.
Just going to stick to other classes until HoT then. I really hope it makes the class playable.
I just think I should be doing better with the amount of time invested into pvp.
The only true thinv that’s lost is the spelling in your title :o
Shatter mes is hardly the only build that can help a team. In fact it can be a huge liability depending on the matchup.
Ive played full mes teams running a variety of builds which works to cover bases. So suggesting no other mes build works to help a team to victory is just falacious.
Im not trying nor wanting to be down on you. I certainly dont care to hate you (dont even know who you are really) but this issue seems more something to do with your personality and whatever it is youve got going on. Its just so aparent in how you talk about it and keep on and on with it. Thats not something people can really address with time spent in a practise arena. Or maybe im wrong and thats all you need. Good luck!
My advice is to go into unranked and playtest variants of teamplay builds shatter/interrupt. Find out what you like to do within a build and create your own.
Personally, I love reflects, shatters, iWarden, and boon strips (oh and hate condis but who doesn’t). My build addresses all of these and puts out good damage – even more so because it fits my playstyle.
Maybe meta shatter isn’t your style? Switch to sw/torch? (if you love pull/interrupts maybe switch to sw/f). Don’t give up, mesmers have moderate freedom in builds and IP is not a requirement to do great damage.
If you play shatter expect to be average cause your using the same spec as majority of mesmers

This is an interesting conclusion. Would you mind walking us through the unique logic you must have used to arrive at it?
I don’t understand why you would not play another spec, put 6 into chaos doesn’t matter what gm trait you take you’ll life will be a lot better . I switch between pu and ci almost every other game, some time I even use BD , maybe I’m just bad but I feel like I help my team out plenty lol.

I don’t think that any logic ever came near Zelulose’s conclusion.
Lemme give my two cents. Thief and mesmer both have very different playstyles. Shatter mesmer must dive in with the mindset of ‘all-or-none’ if they want to come out victorious. They have to be rapid, fast, and give no room for an opponent to pause. Shatter mesmer has to be extremely aggressive, and rely on their plethora of on-demand escapes if they want to remain in the middle of the fight – and turn those escapes to be used offensively as well. Decoy can mean another clone, Diversion can stack torment, distort to reflect back missiles, and dodges to summon more clones for shatter.
Thief on the other hand, cannot afford to be too aggressive. If a thief overstays in a fight, they will lose. They must pull back, re-position themselves, then dive back in. They need to calculate and gauge their enemy before each strike. Even builds that are ‘in your face’ (like s/d) still require you to pull back if the going gets too rough.
You cannot play the two builds in a similar manner, and anticipate the same results. One time when I was roaming as a mesmer, I made the fatal mistake of trying to pull away like a thief. The moment I did so, I knew it was a mistake and that I would be dead – I can’t escape like a thief. Another time while dueling as a thief, I got too aggressive and tried to finish off my opponent instead of retreating with a heal before finishing them off – that made me lose the duel.
In a nutshell: play thief like a coward. Play mesmer like a crazy person.

+1( ^-^)????.:*:?’°?
As a mesmer when you stealth you either get the kittenens our of there or go back in harder. As a thief when you stealth you have time to smell the roses and when the time is right 111111 your opponent to death.
You can try to get some experience in wvw, this may be usefull.
If you like playing on your mesmer then just keep playing. If you don’t like it then you should try something else. Maybe it is just not your thing.
In a nutshell: play thief like a coward. Play mesmer like a crazy person.
This made my day. I can’t stop laughing.
Awright, awright… Time to go moa someone. Thanks Ari!

Probably the thing I love most about mesmer. Nothing beats running into a 1vX like it’s a normal 1v1, while unloading everything you have and watching those health bars drop and panic overtaking your foes. You may eventually get me down, but I have NO REGRETS!
Alright, I’ll give it one last go with that mindset, and try lockdown after, if not I will likely look for another class. Thank you all again.
A tip I want to give you is to save your phantasms. A lot of new players to mesmer generally open with GS4 into a shatter or GS2 and shatter. A better way to open might be to use GS2, shatter and then spawn your Berserker.
There are a couple of reasons for this: 1) you can have him attack twice if lucky. 2) they have dodged your shatter so their endurance is out, garanteed hit. You spread out your damage more. 3) They will be crippled which makes it easier for follow up damage with the staff or especially, the sword.
Whenever you swap to a weapon, know you will use 1-2 shatters in the next 2 seconds, hold on to spawning your phantasms. Spawn clones, dodge, shatter and then spawn them.
This is not always the best way, you’ll learn what to do in different situations. But too many people do GS4 into a shatter or even their staff phantasm and it didn’t even get an attack off.
Quickblade Vince – Thief
The Asurnator – Elementalist
And if you want to roll another class: Engi and Ele are my picks. Not because they’re OP but IMO, they’re the more complex classes in the game and they’ll always be relevant in some way, especially engineer.

<<<Thief Main, Shatter mes (2nd favorite) alt.
This accurately (hilariously) describes the difference (in pvp).
It could also be stated
Thief: Wait for an opening
Mesmer: Create an opening
I hope necrobumping isn’t breaking the rules but I dont wanna make another thread, I still am struggling really bad.
I tried to record but Overwolf makes things laggy and I do worse under pressure. Im going to upload it soon so people can possibly help me.
But 2.5 years of this bullkitten says enough.
Edit: Cant make a video, lags too bad. The footage is awful and I cant turn off my music.

Why do you claim the profession is bad simply because you struggle with it?
It appears that you confuse your subjective opinion with that of objective fact. Every profession is not for every player. Keep at it and you will likely improve. The other options are to play professions you do better in, or play this one to the best of your abilities and accept what you can accomplish.

Dont use overwolf. Use Bandicam, much easier on your systems resources. Check the link in my sig for help getting set up to record and post vids.
I will give u the advice, i give most of the people who asking me questions like that. Try a zerker Phantasm Build. It’s not easy, but you will understand the whole Mesmer class better then u would with playing shatter, because you know what ur Illusions can do, you will now when the right time is to shatter, you have longer fights so you learn how to dodge, to kite and so on. After some time, try shatter again. Give it a few days. I promise, u will play better after that. Learning by playing.
And don’t say Phantasm is useless, it’s not.
