So, I am only lvl 14 but rank 8 already in PvP. I LOVE the Mesmer in Spvp and WvW. I have tried all classes and keep returning to Mes. I have watched all Mr. Pro’s videos several times and it has helped a TON in understand how class works and using abilities in synergy.

Problem I am having is Mr.‘s videos talk about PvE builds, but with extremely high skill points to spend. I just got to second zone and am having to blow a ton of CD’s and switch weapons several times just to kill 1 even lvl mob. 2 mobs and it is a run for my life. My guardian can take on 2-3 mobs even level no sweat. I know guards rock pve, but I shouldn’t be having all these problems @14 right? I hear that around 30 Mes becomes much easier to lvl.

So question is; what can I do next 15-20 levels to make my life easier? I use GS/S for both pve and pvp right now. Is there a more defensive weapon set up to use at these levels without the skill points? Any tips would be appreciated.

Gear up to make life easier but at the same time I wouldnt suggest wasting your moneys on low level gear because you are going to out level it pretty fast, well depending on how fast you are leveling. Also ppl have said and I noticed as well the staff is staple for leveling because of chaos armor and the warlock, I didnt start using the GS until I was better geared at 80. Also try the pistol for its instarupt and kite kite kite…switching weapons is very important I think due to the opening of additional skills. when i was leveling I would open with the staff aoe phase retreat and warlock and then switch to scepter/pistol and use the interupt cast duelist and finish with scepter 3 ability

I’m level 32 now, using Greatsword and Sword/Sword or Pistol, and things have definitely gotten easier. The truth is I gave up on Mesmer for a while because playing one at low levels is a very unpleasant experience.

That being said, you will never be as good at soloing as a guardian is…but neither will any other class, so it’s not a big deal :P

The main thing I overlooked for leveling at those levels was the effectiveness of the 1 handed sword in PvE. Try it out if you are not currently, life is much easier that way.

I play a GS/Staff Mesmer and I have found that opening on staff auto, dropping 4,5 on yourself and switching to GS kept me alive more than once.

You use your chaos shield AND chaos storm at the same time?

I use my Chaos Shield and Chaos Storm at the same time, it adds a ton of survivability in a short period of time.

I prefer to use Chaos Storm, make sure I am just barely in the range, then hit Phase retreat for the combo finisher: ehtereal which grants you Chaos Shield without wasting a cast.

Original poster, take a close look at our combo fields and combo finishers, you can get many free buffs vs melee. Staff, torch, main hand sword, focus, and several of our utilities combine really well for keeping up almost non-stop chaos shield (which I almost never have to cast on myself because I continuously get it for free).
