Staff phantasm can hit hard, and you dont need a necro to help you get those conditions.
It is a lot less offensive though, and if you are going for a zerker phantasm mesmer, that is not really what you are looking for, Iswordsmans has been taking the cake for me lately, along with that block. Also with MH sword you can time your burst nicely with your phantasms

GS/Staff is a pretty standard defensive phantasm build. It’s built pretty tanky and uses the staff for defense, with the gs for point management with the knockback.
Well out of the two builds seen in the latest tourney, both mesmers were using staff. Interesting.

The winning team had a mesmer on it! He was GS/Staff phantasm.
I do not know if the halting strike was an error or not, but I am curious to see what Helseth used.
The only other mesmer in the tourney was a phantasm build, which is actually exactly the same build I am running at the moment.

I think Helseth runs a GS/Staff shatter build, with a little emphasis on phantasms through phantasmal fury.
Most of his traits and build are geared toward shatter, along with some traits geared toward the GS/Staff such as illusionary bounce and halting strike.
I do love the GS/Staff combination though

is it a rule that they are not allowed rune or something? I just check the link in the OP and most build said “No runes checked by casters”

Funny you saying this Nuke since kitten near every mesmer runs staff and swears by it.

Nothing against you Nuka, but nobody ever said it was bad. Top mesmers have not been running staff/gs at all in the tourney scene since this game came out.
I don’t know what you “main” but I can tell you as mesmer main, that this weapon combo is rare that is all. The below link backs up my statement to the T.

No, they were using runes/sigils…the commentators simply didn’t show us them that is all. We can guess what they were using, but that is all it is…a guess.
