Looking to run/try a mantra build. Any ideas?

how hard could it be to make one yourself?

take all the mantra related traits, then equip 3-4 mantras on skill bar. and there you go.

Not hard to make one, just wondering if any one who has tried it can leave some feed back.

I run with power+precision+crit dmg GS mantra from time to time. Using the traits that give you 3 stacks of each mantra and +4% damage for each stack will rocket your damage to the moon.

Sad thing is, you lose all your mobility so it’s only good when you want to be a super glass cannon and always keep yourself at the safe range like in WvWvW since you can’t use your mantras because you have to maintain the dmg bonus. In dungeons, it’s a lot harder to do. Also, if you spec fully for damage output already, it doesn’t matter anymore whether you use mantra build or not, the marginal difference in killing things faster is not preferable to survivability.

It’s not very viable, but they do have some uses.

Going 30 in the Vit tree and taking the skill that heals allies when used is a good dungeon healer. I think i got around 1.2k every cast, couple that with phantasm regen and it’s decent.

The other common way is the way Davy said, is a full power/Crit build. which is pretty good, i have no experience in this one, but i’ve seen it used a bit.

Other than those 2, it’s pretty much pick whatever number you want plus the traits you want. The only thing i recommend in pve is staying away from mantra of pain, it’s worthless. Personally, i use the heal and condition removal untraited sometimes, simply because my main build lacks it. But it’s up to personally preference. (Also, they need a buff.)

It can be useful in dungeons, but I think that the 4 seconds casting times on each mantra, plus the fact that you have to recast ALL of them if you go underwater make them a pain to use in pvp.

I had some fun running dungeons with this build (didn’t fill everything, just traits and runes to give an idea):

intothemists.com/calc/?build=-NFk3G;0ZUF41M7cV-71;9;5TEO;223A2;039;26-V0S;1nBnBnBnBK

with 6 runes of Dwayna and some +heal exotics I heal myself and the group for 2600/2800 every time I charge a mantra.
I swap MoR for Mantra of concentration from time to time to better land the Prestige blast finisher with stability if I face lots of knockbacks (readied mantra casts and blink do not break its stealth)

Recharging MoP is the main group healing, skill, since it has a 1 second cd, while Recovery and Resolve take care of conditions/proc the runes (Recovery).
Sometimes I also take Mantra of distraction with Mantra Mastery instead of Mantra of Resolve…I’m still experimenting.
I try to always have at least 2 mantras readied for Empowering Mantras.
Mass Invi to raise groupmates/escape/recharge mantras.

It is fun in solo pve and dungeon support/healing, but as I said I don’t see it working in pvp where mantras would be easily interrupted.

Tip: as far as I know, Blink is the only meaningful action that doesn’t stop the channeling of your mantras, otherwise the only “safe” way to recast them is after Mass Invi, or decoy if you take it.

It could be way better if they:
-Fix the bug (?) of readied mantras “unreadying” themselves when you go underwater
-Reduce mantra’s casting times to 2.5/3 seconds (either by default or using traits)
-Give a short lived buff while recasting a certain mantra (like swiftness for 4 seconds on Recovery)
-Increase Mantra of Concentration stability’s duration to 3 seconds.
-Being able to channel mantras while dodging.

That might be the only action that doesn’t prevent it, but stealth is another great way to get off mantras. decoy and mass invis have just enough stealth for you to finish the mantra charge.

the point of a mantra build that doesn’t take heal on mantra use is to finish the fight before you have to recharge the mantras. not very effective running with zergs, ok in small fights, but standard builds with blink/decoy/whatever is much more adaptable to more situations.

My mantras stay charged going underwater. There was a fix for that, previously they reset.

I like my mantra damage build. It lets you do respectable damage when not geared for it. Geared for it, you do tons. It’s best for pve and wvw I find. In neither case is it my “best” build but it is fun.

Mantras only go away when you go underwater when the mantras aren’t set on your underwater bar. If you have a charged mantra on land you need to have the mantra on your underwater bar to keep it charged.

I’ll try slotting the exact same mantras on my underwater skill bar then, I don’t know why I never thought of that ._.

Full mantra builds are basically the equivalent of 5 signet warrior builds. You can stack huge damage at the cost of not having any good utilities. That being said at least you still have a stun break, cleanse, and daze so you aren’t completely useless. They can also be used more than once without crippling your damage too much which is more than a warrior that used his signets can say.

How about this

Look at the various synergies. It’s a power/crit build, probably GS main with scptre/pistol for some additional ranged utility/DPS. The key here is the runes of Centaur. Mantra heals means you get group 10 second swiftness on command x3 (traited properly). What’s nice is that you have a lot of power, but don’t sacrifice on armor, so you’re not a glass cannon, you’re a Tiger Tank with huge manuverability. The swiftness is key to the build though because having a line of mantras means you sacrifice a lot of standard mesmer utility. That said, I’d be fearfull of encountering this build in a 1v1. Drop timewarp, and unload your phantasms etc, while whailing away. With Mantra of distraction you can quickly chain cast daze, which if you time it properly will stop your targets CD’s for a total of 15 seconds. Not that you need timewarp for this. That said, you can also drop a timewarp to quickly recharge mantras. Given your armor you can afford to tank a bit. If you are worried about recharging mantras though, swap phantasmal fury for protected mantras.

Just one concept I came up with while having a look/play. I’ve not tried a mantra build yet (though this looks interesting).

Nice build, basically what a mantra build would look like. However, instead of 20% mantra cd reduction I would take clone on dodge. I don’t use all mantras but when I use mantra of distraction the cd reduction doesn’t help as much as more clones.

Besides, mantra builds want to hold on to charges as much as possible to maximise damage. Mantra cd means you are using the mantras, clone on dodge means you are doing more mind wracks. Damage wise it seems like dodge clones are the better choice and they are defensive too, use them to confuse and for distorton shatter.

Personally I’m inclined to go with clone on dodge on any build, so I won’t disagree with you. 3 clone shatters are always better than 1 (or 4 with a full 30 in Illusions).
