I LOVE MANTRAS (PvE)
Greetings everyone!
The only reason I haven’t played mantras was that they were only good for solo. Now there are AoE cleanse and stability. So I decided to give it a try and … they are awesome!
I started with a full damage build 30/30/0/0/10. I used to go 20/20/0/30/0 so I’m really missing the reflection on focus. However it’s just one skill to be honest. I still got my feedback.
While in dungeons I run with 3-4 mantras. Depending on illusions I’m able to get a (up to) 26.44% damage buff. Since I lost 15% damage of illusions due the traits it looked bad first, but I also gained 100 power, condur, prec and 10% crit dmg. The phantasms aren’t even hitting for less then ususal!
Added everything up I just deal about 30% more damage and thats kittening noticable in combat. Hitting for 3.5k with Sword1 3rd hit without any boons is sexy. Even GS seems to deal damage now, about 3-3.5k too. I really can’t comlain!
I’m gonna try mantras in more different dungeons now, they seem really strong, maybe even the new meta.
greez
Gotta retry my Go Go Power Ranger build again in zergs then.
Giving up reflections on focus sounds like a mediocre choice if you are going dungeoneering though.
Those were my thoughts too. I really love reflection but I don’t wanna betrey myself so I give the whole mantra thing a try and I’m surprised in a positive way right now.
What does the focus reflection give us? Warden absorbs anyway projectiles and protects therefore and the focus 4 was anyway useless 50% of the time since it’s too flat and enemies jsut shoot over it. It’s annoying.
I am actually missing:
You are using the mantra burst build for PvE ? And it actually works ?
Since you’re missing reflect, try 10/30/0/30/0. Sure, you lose a bit damage, but it comes with great survivability and reflect. The 3 charge mantra is just too expensive and might even hurt in some situations (the old mantra question “I used one charge in the fight; what now?”)
Major Traits:
Generally; just try removing points from the additional charge trait, you might still like it.
Reminder: Mantra dmg doesn’t work with phants
@TC reflect
yeah, it’s a joke, but it works surprisingly well (not as good as other reflect skills ofc) when you place it correctly. Usually you just have to plant it on your feet and tell your party to also do so.
I am actually missing:
- focus reflection (a bit)
- glamour cdr (for feedback and portal)
- feedback on revive
That’s the part which makes me iffy about this. Sure, 30/30/0/0/10 with both the mantra- and clone-based damage boosts always did the best direct damage (and it’s plenty fun trolling around in WvW with a greatsword nuking people from 1200 range autoattacks) – but the groups I play with tend to value my utility a lot more, and a ton of that comes from the Inspiration line.
I basically feel like if I’m going to play an auto-attack bot with a few mantras for aoe stability and condition removal, I’d just be better off bringing my zerker guard.
The thing with the 3 mantras is most about power cleanse, the heal and interruption combines with domination 15. It allways adds 8 stacks vournability and this is equal to 8% more damage for the whole team for 10 sec (domination increases condition duration).
So, whats the general DpS of a class? ΓΈ5000 per target? Some might be more some might be lower, evading and casting etc. I think 25’000 DpS for the party is easy doable, I guess it’s more but even with 25’000, 8% over 10 sec equals to 20’000 damage. The result changes if there are already vournable stacks on it (negative) or if the enemy dies within 5 sec (still 10’000) but aswell if the team has more might stacks (positive).
offtopic: this is just one very powerful example of what passive damage means. Reflection will count as passive heal or again as passive damage if your allies don’t have to dodge.
It’s like a chain reaction: going for 15 in dominion is just a short step to 20 wich is a short one to 30. I’m gonna try it with 2 mantras too since I want the expirience, but I’m worried about it a bit :P
As I have mentioned: focus 5 still protects and you still have your feedback when needed. And NEVER compare something with other classes.

Let’s check your problems and compare your mantra burst with “my” “mantra support” build:
So technically (if you swap your traits – as I have to, too) you can maintain most advantages (exc interrupt) but trade a bit offensive power to defensive/ heal/ support.
I’m not gonna say “go support your team” or “anything but ‘more damage’ is trash”, just test it if you like and check for yourself.
Good points and I sure will make that expirience too. I want to test EVERYTHING!!! But I have to make a few points too:
True the heal rotation is faster hmmm … How much does the healing mantra trait heal actually?
True the heal rotation is faster hmmm … How much does the healing mantra trait heal actually?
Pretty much the same as a healing charge. 2600~2800.
I don’t know if you grow accustom to using MoP as “additional heal” (as needed), but a third charge does decrease it’s H/S significantly.
I moved to the 30/30/0/0/10 build and I had a great time with it, so great that I picked up a set of Travelers runes for my poor slowkitten Mesmer.
Blood~
I think I’ll give my 30/30/0/0/10 one more week then I try the other style.
