So I am only level 36 but steadily working my way up. I really enjoy the Mesmer, I have only ever played my 80 Engie before.

I like the play style of Mantras, and am looking for a way to incorporate them into a full build. I also enjoy the speed and evasion that comes with sw/sw mixed with the stealth and range of sp/tc.

Traits I looked for anything that could help the Mantras. Gear I tried to make up for the loss of some health/toughness from putting the traits mainly in power/prec. I plan on testing this out a bit in sPvP tonight and see how this plays out.

Playstyle would be to get into the fight and have sustained damage hoping to outlast them. Final kill would be using all 3 charges of Mantra of Pain. I would also be using sw2 and f4 when ever possible.

Just curious if anyone has used a pure Mantra build before, and if so how did you play it?

Basically, here’s the deal. Some mantra builds work. Sometimes you’ll even kill people with them. However, no matter how hard you try, they’ll always be worse than almost any other build for PvP, simply because the mechanic is currently too clunky to work. Fay spent the better part of a year trying to make them viable before she gave up.

Well, a few things… scepter/torch seems like an odd choice to me, you don’t have any traits or gear that supports stealth and/or conditions, and that’s what those two weapons do best. I’d go for GS since you have good power/precision.

Secondly, you’re stacking precision but not crit damage. That’s usually only done to take advantage of sharper images (15p dueling minor). Not sure what you’re trying to accomplish here.

Finally, mantras have the obvious disadvantage of super long cast times. This means that if the fight drags out or you get jumped unprepared, you’re probably going to die if all your utilities are mantras. After the buffs they got I usually run with one or even two mantras even though I don’t trait for them, but I wouldn’t want them taking up all my utility slots.

If anet want to make mantras more viable they should add stability to the Protected Mantra trait.

In any case, mantras can be fun to play, but you’ll find it tough going if you’re using so many of them as your utilities. My opinion is you’d need more than just 2 stealths as escapes.
