Mantras.
They aren’t useless, if you do a thread search on the word “mantra” you will find people using them.
I don’t understand why you posted just to ask someone to tell you something that you already have an opinion regarding.
Mantras work in direct damage builds and support builds, that should get you started.
I dont play an mantra build, but you can check out on youtube some mantra plays.
Also made a quick mantra build just this second:

Its not perfect but it has good power, nice HP, nice cric. chance :P and some CC breaks
Think of cool downs. Say your average utility slot has a 30 sec cool down, you will seldom use them more than once a fight. Almost never more than twice. If traited for it, you can use mantras three times in a normal fight.
Using the. Is also instant, so there’s a lot you can do while channelling one – use another mantra, shatter, phase retreat, etc. The cast is almost always between fights, and if not you aren’t stuck doing nothing in the mean time.

Mantras are nice due to the lower cooldowns and multiple uses, not to mention you can pop them while knocked down, stunned, etc.
Personally I run a healing power build with water runes, giving me massive heals (healing mantras channeling and use counts as a healing spell for those) and the mantras allow me to interrupt from any position.
Not to mention you never have conditions. ever.
