Mantras are going to rock now!

Lol they do look handy! I’d still like to see some buffs pop up. Something to reduce the channel time when you have more than one stacked.
But all in all, I’m happy to see us get some on-demand condi cleanse in an AoE and DEFINITELY psyched for that stability.
I haven’t seen the changes in detail, have they reworked stability so it lasts longer than 0.5 of a second or however it lasts now?

Mantra of Pain has been my go to since I started mesmer. I really really hoping for a small AOE or bounce or something. oh well

That would be great. That mantra’s such a bummer… 2.75s casting time for piddly little damage. I think it’s less than just auto-attacking for all my weapon sets. :-(
From an untraited standpoint id argue that nullfield is still better in PVP with added boon removal and it is a combo field compared to Mantra of Resolve. And Mantra of Stability is like whatever with 2s Stability. Unless you can predict exactly each incoming aoe stun. Which is in WvW large group fights just hit and miss. The only time i can imagine it being usefull is in a dungeon if a Boss has a specific AoE stun attack. But i dont do dungeons so thats a wild guess.
So ye i dont think the AoE change will make mantras more desirable.
Well in PvE it will. Since many mesmers are using mantras for the 4% damage boost they now can support their group with them. I like the changing I really often use the both of the buffed mantras and now I won’t be punished by my grp for being egoistic

It’s good in a heal bot Mesmer setup though!
@meforga
I’d loooove a heal-bot mesmer! Last time I tried one, I was just disappointed with how my ‘support’ compared with other classes. Few combo fields to leverage, small AoEs.
Having 2-3 mantras locked and loaded pumping out heals, AoE cleanse, and AoE stability along with the normal plethora of boons, reflections, and dazes will be nice!
I have good fun with my Mantra of Pain spammer now. Looking forward to the extra perks being thrown at a build I already enjoy.
And better tooltips FTW.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

how do you make Mantra of Pain work? For me, it’s about the same or less DPS than an auto-attack while consuming a utility slot.
I know this is sorta irrelevant to the topic, but I am not excited about the mantra changes at all. Lol. What I am nervous/excited about is how the heck Anet is gonna scale the condition in WvW. I mean are they gonna lower condition damage or boost it or what? I hope its not lowering it. Cross fingers on that one.

Mantra of Pain traited for heal when you prep a mantra (and most definitely NOT for extra charges when you prep…) is something you prep when the group has taken a big hit (for the AoE), then you dump the two extra charges during other casts – they are like shouts, meaning you can cast them simultaneously with other actions. Since I’m usually rocking sword main-hand, I often prep mantra/heal, hit something with Sword 2 (damage + invulnerability) and dump both charges during the induction so I’m ready to heal again. Even if you get deep enough in the suck where you’re just spamming MoP alongside say Staff auto-attacks, if you’ve already got a few phantasms out they’re plinking away and radiating perma-regen.
Basically you’re trading prep time for heal, the two charges are just gravy after that.

As a person who runs a Sword/Focus+Scepter/Sword Mantra build, the dev stream made me happy.
In the pants.

If would be really nice if having them all locked and loaded wasnt like juggling 20 shells while trying to load a shotgun when someone is smashing your head against a wall and your baby need a diaper change.
Also, you’re hanging upside down.

This is just to close to reality to be an analogy.

Mantra is 2-3 times castable.

Well we’re not Guardians :P
Also that’s still nice scince its a kitten buff. Every buff makes me happy Would you like to have Mantras reduced to 1 Charge? No, well I don’t think you would. So why the hell are you still not pleased? Woohoooo, I’m getting buffs!
Scepter 2 and 3 cd reduction makes me happy too although I do not even use it mutch Buffs are Buffs. Get stronger skills or not? I prefer getting stronger skills and even if theese numbers are the case why you’re not pleased…
Ever fought Lupicus being able to get your friends out of the bubble when e.g. “Stand Your Grounds” was on CD? Yeah, not traited we only have 4s stability but we can divide it by two.
Imagine you just got hit by that bubble 5s after that you get it again. Guard would have to use another cd when you still didn’t use one.
Keep in mind that Mantra is 2 stunbreaks not only one.

2-3 snif or is this trait not worth to get?

Why I didn’t mention the 3rd cast is that there are builds with mantras but only 10 points in domination. I wanted my arguments to count for theese too.
I like and use the trait alot.

I still can’t really see it as something powerful for a group play. Talk about condi cleanse, a traited null field still seems a lot better. Even Disenchanter has lower cooldown and clean about the same number of condition at a faster rate. Mantras still have those 2.75 sec daze. 2 seconds stability is nothing besides stun breaker, but then what good could come out of it if you break stun but still stand at the same spot? Isn’t blink better? Telling your team to dodge boss stun-breakable CC is more effective than relying on mantra stun break as well.
The only thing good about mantra is mantra of pain heal bot which has nothing to do with this patch. And the only thing good from the preview seems to be -CD scepter. making those two mantras AoE is good, but still not enough to warrant any real difference.
Really disappointed by mesmer adjustment. They keep saying that they don’t want to adjust too much…. how long do I have to wait until my mesmer is complete? 7 years?
I still don’t really see why Mantras have to be charged up. There are so many instant use skills in the game, especially now all Guardian meditations are by default, I just don’t see what they offer over those that they need this charge up.
They should at least follow through with the change and make mantra of pain aoe as well, or at least make it deal direct damage to the target, and apply tormented to nearby targets. Then the change would’ve actually mattered.
I want it to make sense right away, then another sense later. Murkiness =/= quality "
