If you just made your Mesmer, then unfortunetly no. There are no tricks. You have to endure until 80, basicly (or at least 40+).

The only thing I can suggest is learn your phantasms and use them extensivly. Target swap! Dont just find one target out of 3 and pump everything on him. Dump one phantasm on one guy, another on the second and focus on the third. Get the +50% HP bonus early on, it help. No they arent going to kill them alone (in fact they can get insta-killed if you’re unlucky), but they will distract them, allow you to deploy constant pressure over the entire group. Fighting with illusions is a rhytm you just have to learn – you aint going to have learned it if you just made a Mesmer.

At 80 you’ll be able to handle 10 or so mobs at the same time if you play your illusions right, hehe.

If you use greatsword summon a clone first (skill 2) then a phantasm, the clone will take the first hit/hits and your big damage phantasm will be able to do the damage, then you can arrive, switch to sword, auto attack, they start to hit you, blurred frenzy, etc etc.

Staff is good for taking on multiple foes, but kills slower i found when leveling.

Learn to shatter, shatters are our AoE damage. The key to using it to kill groups is just that, get the group together, and then shatter. One other thing is to try to wait to shatter until you are ready to create more clones or phants. If you can do that, then shatter, and if there are survivors, quickly tag them with more clones and phants. Shattering is our best AoE damage. GS has our best AoE phantasm in the iZerker, and sword as mentioned hits multiple targets. Thus I recommend running GS & Sword/Focus. Really learn the focus, it is potentially the best weapon we have and it gets stronger and stronger as you level.

One more trick for handling small groups of mobs. Lay down temporal curtain, stand on it, activate its secondary effect to draw all nearby mobs to you, summon the iWarden and blurred frenzy. This should kill all normal mobs, only veterans are likely to survive that attack.
