Q:
Mesmer Blink talent not working?
This problem already happened to me too;
Also, sometimes, while using blink i end up being warped at the same place(my position remains the same); and this happens to me while using blink on flat ground without any obstacles.
I’ve encountered something similar but that was when the ground was very, very slightly slanted. That caused me to blink in place. I also know that if you try to cross a gap with it, even a small one that’s on level on both sides, it’s likely to fail. The rule of thumb is, if you can’t jump it, you can’t blink across either.
Blink did not even work on small gaps that I would normally just bound over. I tried to see if it would work from one spot to another with a gap in between, but I ended up where I started and nothing worked.
I think it is bugged and not working as intended. Pretty dismal if you ask me since I just got my Mesmer to 80 a week ago and want to really utilize these skills.
Can’t use a broken stick for anything. This blink talent obviously is a broken stick.
It has worked for me plenty of times. Hell, when I first hit 80 I thought it was useless because all it did was move me a few feet away and projectiles still hit me. It grew one me when I was told that it broke stun and worked while prone. Now I can’t imagine playing without it.
That still doesn’t help your situation though so let me know exactly where you used it and I’ll do some testing too to see if we can pinpoint the problem.
I actually was using it when a young karka stunned me on Owen’s Retreat (south western islet in South Sun). I was on the flat ledge behind the turned over boat that you see on the right as you approach the karka egg area. That particular spot has no holes in it or rocks on it. I was just trying to break the stun and get to the other side of him.
Obviously it did not work. I ended up defeated because the stun portion of that talent borked out on me and I was unable to recover.
The ability blink will not cross gaps in the ground. In general, it will work when going up a ramp, although there are some places it will not work. In general, it will not get you from the bottom of a sharp cliff to the top, but there are some places that it will work.
These are things that you will eventually figure out as you play, the places that blink will work, and the places that it wont. This is working as intended in all ways.
However, even if the blink does not completely move you to the spot where you intended to go, it will still break the stun.
I do wish it had broken the stun, but unfortunately, it did nothing. The talent looked like it fired off but my character was still stunned and, as I mentioned, the blink did not move me to the intended target circle. Which, incidentally, was not up, down or over a gap, it was just to the other side of the young karka that had stunned me….and on a flat surface to boot.
I want to thank everyone who has responded to my query. I appreciate input from such a great group of veteran mesmers. My character is still new to the profession and I’ll just have to deal with a broken talent.
Perhaps it may even work sometime to break me out of a stun, but I guess I’ll just have to do without that talent. Its too bad. Puts me in mind of the broken pet AI for the Rangers. My pets never did as I asked for the longest time, so maybe Anet will fix the stun portion of this talent.
It’s not broken. The mechanics rule for Blink is that you may teleport only to the location to which your character can run to without jumping and there is no obstacle between you and the target spot.
TLDR: you can only blink to the spot to which you can run to in a straight line without jumping.
It’s not a bug. It’s a feature.
Gaidax, that is what I thought too. So when I cast that particular talent when stunned by that karka, I was trying just to get unstunned and hoped that I could just get the two steps away from him that I thought I needed.
As I mentioned this was on a totally flat area and the karka was actually on top of my character. Where I wanted to get to was on the other side of his body but on the same flat surface I was laying on.
But I would have been happy if it had just broken the stun, which it did not.

Veteran karka will do somewhat of a doubleknockdown. If you don’t wait until the second one, you’ll get knocked down again.
Blink is bugged, but this way is not a bug, if you could blink anywhere, you could just blink onto the walls of a keep. Common Sense.
The appropriate place to blink must be somewhere that:
-requires no jumping
-is not blocked (eg: keep gate, walls)
-is on land.
Real Bug: about a 1/10 chance, blink will teleport you to the location (if its an appropriate location) for about 1/2 of a second, then teleport you back to your original place. This bug has been around for months and Anet prefer nerfing a perfectly fine skill than fixing really annoying bugs like this.

Its the animation bug that really annoys me, probably never getting fixed.
You blink while running and 50% of the time, after blinking, your moving but sliding along the ground liike your stood still.

That’s been in since the first beta weekend. I remember reporting that bug multiple times, never been fixed though.
Yea, I knew about the karka double blast but for crying out loud, I do wish Anet would just FIX these things so they actually work properly. Having messed up skills/talents just makes the community want to pull its hair out because they don’t work right.

They do work right. Blink works quite fine. I’ve used blink continually for the entire duration of this game, along with all 3 beta weekends. The utility is amazing, it works perfectly the vast majority of the time, and the few instances where it doesn’t work in situations that you would expect it to (the only one I can think of is inner bridge at east keep) are very rare.

I’ll keep trying it then….perhaps once it will work for me, but so far it has not in any situation I’ve used it in. I knew it would not work on uneven terrain or in jp-type situations. I do fairly well in jumping so really do not need that to get over jumps. But on something that stuns it has not worked at all.
Is there a special trick to using it perhaps that I am unaware of? I get stunned I press that talent, I see it fire off and nothing happens. The tool tip says range 900. Does it actually have to be 900 range before it works? Was I using it too close to where I was?
I don’t know. But I appreciate everyone’s comments. I’ll keep trying to see if I can get it to at least break stun for me.

I’m not sure where you’re running into trouble. You can blink anywhere within a radius of 900 range, and it should break a stun/daze/knockdown/knockback no matter what.
It’s not broken. The mechanics rule for Blink is that you may teleport only to the location to which your character can run to without jumping and there is no obstacle between you and the target spot.

That’s not exactly true as I often blink up cliffs that you cannot run up in a straight line. For example, the ones just outside the east gate at Bay in any borderland.
General rule of thumb that I use, if you can run there within 10 sec or less, you can usually blink there. There are exceptions though.

Well, I just tried it again in the bank. lol…straight line and I actually moved and pulled my sword out. Nice…So apparently I need to actually use the targeting circle to get the thing to fire off. Now I know what I did not know before.
I thought it was a stun breaker then you used the target..for some reason. I have no idea why I thought that now that I actually saw it work for me.
Thank you very much. I do wish there was a proper tutorial somewhere that explained these little things. So it is a single action activated by the target circle not the other way around.
Thanks… :=)
Interesting…I just watched Dulfy’s video on the final boss fight in the Flame and Frost dungeon. There is a scene where she gets thrown into that stun circle around the center area and I noticed her using this talent there, but it seem to take a bit of time to activate once I saw her circle show up.
So I wonder if there is a small lag involved there? hmmmm.. I’ll keep trying.
Sorry about my delayed response. I’ll go play masochist with karka to see if I can replicate this bug.
Edit: First i have to say, “OMG! THE LIGHTBLOOM! I’m blind, Peg! BLIND!!”
In all seriousness, I can’t seem to replicate the situation you described. I can’t even find any young karka that do stuns. They only cripple and bleed with their raned attack and then do melee attacks until it recharges. The hatchlings do a full array of conditions but I have yet to see a stun.
On the movement side, the best I could do is blink inside certain rocks. While it is way too easy to do so, phase retreat got me out just as easily.

Blink is a ground targeted aoe skill. All such skills work the same way. When you activate the skill, your cursor becomes an aoe targeting reticule. Activating the skill a second time or left clicking will then cause the skill to actually be used, at the targeted location.
If you turn on fast cast ground targeting in the options, you will no longer get the targeting reticule, but the skill will instead immediately activate using your cursor’s current position as the center of the skill.

Oh, I thought they did a stun…well maybe that is why it did not work on them. (egg on my face :/)
Doesn’t work when trying to go up those destructible stair walls in towers in WvW. It just puts you at the base of the stairs
