Who else is waiting for the first 2h Mesmer Melee weapon to be the Longbow? I mean c’mon, Great Sword is a ranged sniper rifle, may as well make the longbow melee!!

But on a more serious note, anyone else REALLY want a bow of some sort for their Mesmer? I would kill to be able to use The Dreamer…

if it doesn’t fit into the ‘mage’ or ‘dueling’ category i doubt it’ll happen

I see us getting a SB first… imagine that legendary… we are shooting rainbow unicorns everywhere and blowing people up with purply pink butterflies…. And people still hate us…. I figured it OUT! Mesmer is the most “gay” class in this game and everyone that hates us is a bunch of homophobes or having issues coming to terms with their own sexuality! JK… but seriously SB first.

Bows have never been a dueling weapon throughout all of history. It won’t happen. Even though it’s a game they like to keep some of reality intact.

Um… I haven’t made this thread before, I’m pretty sure this is the second thread I’ve ver made in this section of the GW2 forums…

Bow would suck. We need another 1 handed ranged weapon as scepter is all we have. Give me MH pistol.

shrugs “Scholars” tend to not use axes, Greatswords, pistols, swords, or warhorns either, it’s hardly out of the realm of possibilities for them to use a bow, for example eles and their frost bows…

However, as other people said the bow isn’t really a dueling weapon (yet i don’t think GS is either…) so it probably wont be one…

Has nothing to do with the typical. It’s intentionally part of a-nets initial class design.

Unless they change their minds we won’t see maces, hammers, longbows, rifles, shortbows, shields or harpoon guns.

But I’ll be perfectly honest… I would want a short bow xD

Well, it can be designed as a short range weapon, like a shotgun. Every skill range: 400-600
Skill 1: like engineer’s blunderbuss, but without bleeding, 10% to knockback someone
Skill 2: Aoe damage, Range: 0, radius: 120
Skill 3: summon phantasm that casts haste on friend and cripple on enemies (this can be done giving him a bow, or maybe some bolas :P)
Skill 4: block + knokback
Skill 5: Delayed aoe damage like thief’s kill 2 on SB. Range: 1200, arrow arrives at the ground and then, after 1 second, purple explosion dazing and confusing enemies.

Yeah, pretty cool xD

Just fix scepter to make it viable in power and condition builds aswell.

Scepter #1:

- slow
- low damage
- single target
- easy to dodge
- no conditions
- clones coming from chain 3 are as horrible as the scepter itself.

Scepter #2:

Nothing wrong with it

Scepter #3:

- used to be good in condition builds, now weak
- used to be bad in power builds since release
- channeling skills does’t fit mesmers style, we already have 4 bad channeling utilities, no mesmer likes slow skills.

I like my mesmer but scepter is just a horrible weapon, it just isn’t useful.

Fix things first before adding new stuff.

I am ashamed of every single one of you that thinks bows can’t fit the mesmer MO just because we’re a mage class. And Pyro, you of ALL people, should know better! With all the builds you have created and perfected, I would have thought you’d understand that we revel in being completely unorthodox.

Shortbows would make awesome 2hand melee weapons. As I’ve stated time and time again, think Klingon battleth with the occasional arrow shot. We could also go the Quincy route with shotgun like auto attack similar to how guardians use a staff.

However, it’s pretty much a given that we are getting a mainhand pistol first. It’s the most requested weapon and would be a lot easier to implement, given that no trait work would need to be done.

Any other weapons merely confuse this need.

I do agree that we need mainhand pistols and the scepter is now the red-headed stepchild because of the latest nerf. But dude, forget greatswords! Pistols don’t fit Mesmers either. There are only a handful of mages that I can think of that use guns and most of them are from anime and manga. Yet we have them. If so many are willing to embrace an out-of-place weapon type for a magic user, why are bows shunned so hard?

have you seen the visuals of the legendary short bow? rainbow unicorns come out! definitely sounds like something we need.

Shortbows aren’t dueling weapons that is why I don’t want one or think we will get one. Now Great Sword I believe was given to use just to give us a super long range power based weapon so that we felt “balanced”. I personally don’t use it and find it stupid looking to have a duelist running around with one.

how do u know what its capable of if its not even made yet tho. it might be really good tbh, or it could be really crappy, idk, but short bow sounds like a nice support.

I’d rather see the scepter get buffed/fixed first, then MH pistol added before thinking of adding an entire new weapon that would require new trait(s) to be added. I can’t really picture shortbows as dueling weapons, but perhaps a support weapon of some sort (I think I’ve seen one from bards in FFXIV).
