Hey all,
I am pretty new to the Mesmer class, but I absolutely love it (even over my necro which I have been playing since release). Anyway, I was kittening around with some PvE which I am also new to and created this build that I wanted to get some feedback (pun intended) on. I went for a damage heavy build with a tad bit of survival for running dungeons and events.
I still can’t choose between staff or great sword for my main weapon but I plan on using Sigil of Air and Sigil of Fire on it. The gear is a representation of the gear I currently have for berserker gear.
Please let me know your opinion (good or bad) on the build, any criticism is productive criticism.
Also any tips for playing Mesmer will not go overlooked.

I was also thinking of Superior Rune of the Traveler instead of Hoelbrak. It gives a little less power, but overall give u a little better boost to survivability and mobility.
There’s a whole lot of everything in there… for Open World content everything works, don’t bother building for it. For dungeons, check metabattle
I’m assuming you are focusing on dungeon builds and if so you should read the stickied mesmer dungeon guide on the forums here, it will really help new mesmers.

Your gear is spot on, just sticking with zerker and pack runes with bloodlust and energy on your weps is just grand. If you want traveler runes for the speed it would probably be worth the trade. I would not put fire and air sigils on your weapons.
If you’re focusing on dealing damage a lot of your trait choices don’t make sense.
If you are doing dungeons you won’t need to use your blink ability much, it might be nice to have but it’s not worth investing the traits to upgrade it when you could have constant fury on your phantasms for instance.
You also invested a lot of points into mantra of pain. I would not suggest taking Mantra Mastery and Harmonious Mantra’s just for mantra of pain.
I would personally swap out the majority of your traits for others. It’s all preference I suppose but if you are looking for a damage build with okay survivability and/or group support (mesmer’s strength) I would go a different route.
Here is a decent build layout I made, assuming you don’t mind phantasm builds, you are using sword/focus + gs, and that you plan on doing dungeons. Swap out what ever you want (this is just a build structure), I left 2 points out, they can go where ever really. 1 extra point in inspiration gives 15% more phant damage, 2 points in domination or dueling opens up grandmaster traits.
This gives significantly more phantasm damage and group support with just the traits alone, I would still probably swap out your utilites. Some people really like mantra of pain, I’m not a fan but if it’s your thing I won’t argue against it. I would definitely swap out signet of midnight for something else. Passive boon duration on this build is useless, instant blind can be strong but not on a 30s CD and in place of a utility slot. Swap it out for feedback, null field or mantra of recovery which might even synergies with mantra of pain if you take some mantra traits.
