Mesmer Build for Liadri
Oh yeah, and she has a move that will make all of your skills go into recharge continuously, just wait for the AoE and dodge. Dodging gets rid of it. Make sure you get the Buff from the Hoelbrak chick.
Decent guide. Using blurred inscriptions is an interesting idea, albeit less effective (in my opinion) than taking the condition removal mantra to keep clean of conditions in the second phase.
The effect you are noticing in the quoted section of your guide is actually an odd interaction between liadri’s attacks and reflection. You mentioned that you are using mirror, and that reflects. What happens is that when she jumps on you and spins, something about that allows you to reflect it, and reflecting it somehow forces you to use the attack yourself. Dodging, as always, breaks a channeled attack, and I think that is what you are noticing.
I mostly wanted to use Mirror because it has a lower cool down, but still decent healing.
Edit: Also the Inscriptions are good for the Distortion they give, serves two purposes.
Signet giving Invul. got me through Deadeye guy with 5 gambits so I’m gonna use the same tactic for Liadri. Thanks for the guide.
Thanks for this, it helped me get her lower than any of my previous attempts. ;D
I had the reflect bug happen to me once, what’s great is that it happened as I was downed. So I was downed but flurrying with her whip, which killed a shade (or maybe an orb, I was shocked) and rallied me.
I got her down to 25% once due to stacked confusion I think. That’s why I think traited pistol + feedback is the way to go. I had been using GS a lot for the sustained range damage, but I survive a lot more with Staff. Additionally, I was using torch for stealth, which is excellent for phase 1, but it’s phase 2 that I really need help with. Scepter clunky to use as well, even if it is good for confusion.
Therefore, I was thinking I’d try a Staff + Sword/Pistol build with something like a 0/30/20/20/0 setup with all weapons traited, 20% CD reduction for manip skills, mender’s purity, Compounding Celerity, DE, and debilitating dissapation. For util go mirror, feedback, decoy, blink, and mass invis.
Strategy would be Staff for phase 1 unless you get in trouble and have to blurred frenzy. Then in Phase 2 dump Duelist and swap back Staff to kite until you can swap back to pistol. Drop duelist and repeat. When I used staff in phase 2 it worked out nicely because you can keep your eye on the enemy and just phase retreated based on where the safe area is in front of you.

Honestly I tried a lot of builds and it really boiled down to:
-Berserker Gear
-20/20/5/25/0 to maximize damage (though consider crippling dissipation if you’re having trouble kiting).
-Sword/Focus for Phase 1, the Warden buys you time and Sword has a nice spammable illusion, anything to keep her off you. Focus pull let’s you yank a shade into a circle.
-Greatsword for Phase 2. Really, just run in circles and spam her. Use Beserker and Mirror Blade just after the blasts to divert her. (#5 for killing orbs is an excellent tip btw).
-For utilities I used Decoy, Mantra Cleanse, and Blink. All skills that help me keep distance from her and remove her Weakness debuff (it’s important to avoid that).
-The Blasts are a 2.5s delay. Learn to time and dodge them.
-I like Take Root on my Sylvari, it lets you avoid a blast and if you’re swarmed it’ll cause Illusions to explode on you.
Also, get yourself some orrian truffle and meat stew, it grants endurance regen so you’ll be able to dodge more often.
As a rule of thumb, the orrian truffle meat stew is not a good choice. You should be keeping vigor up permanently with the 5 point minor in dueling, and that caused the truffle meat stew to have no effect.
I didn’t want to use the staff because, I tried it and the Orbs would become obstructed. I don’t like taking that chance. Obviously, whatever works for you, works. This is what I did, and I was able to get her fight down to a science. I was able to consistently get her to phase 2 within 20 seconds. Phase 2 broke down quickly after that with all the second chances my build provides.
I went 20/20/0/30/0 Full zerker with sword/focus and greatsword. Using the focus reflect trait, reduce in glamour cast time and condi removal on heal. Utility I use mirror for the reflect, blink, feedback and nullfield with timewarp for the second phase. Works a charm if you use your dodges carefully and watch where you go.

I used it because I make frequent uses of dodges during phase 1 in those situations when I can’t as easily ‘jitter step’ to dodge. Such as when I’m moving into position for a circle. It allows me to use dodges in step 1 and still have plenty of Endurance when Phase 2 starts since I’m not doing much attacking to trigger Vigor in phase 1. Once I’m in phase 2 and have gotten the kiting started that’s all I need, but being able to dodge her initial lunge and then dodge the circles again quickly without burning CDs really helps.
Also, something I should have mentioned, jitter stepping is when you quickly step back and forth (jitter back and forth). She tries to lead you with her attacks so by quickly changes directions (ie tap Q & E while otherwise standing still) she’s very unlikely to hit you.
I did mostly the same as most people with sw/focus & gs.
Run sw/focus for reflects in the first half, gs in the second half while kiting.
Don’t use mind stab unless you really have to get rid of an orb at range. Great tip on using wave for breaking orbs btw.
Otherwise I ran berserker gear with beryl orbs.
For traits I ran the healing mantra, condi removal mantra, blink and decoy.
Build:
30: III),X(GS training(less cd)),XI(Harmonous mantras(3xcast))
5
10:III)
25:IV(menders purity(remove condi on heal)),VIII)
0
The healing mantra with 3x cast and 25 pts in inspiration really heals you up, gives 3 condi removals every 10s.
The condi-removal mantra will also remove dem cripples 3* every 20s.
Decoy can be nice to make sure liadri doesn’t come to you if you’ve already just used gs #2 and zerker and you’re standing in some red circles with no endurance left.
Also provides a clone for distortion shatter to get you through above AoE.
You gotta get kinda lucky with the orbs, though you can hit em to rally if it doesn’t dump you ontop of a freshly spawned clone.
I tried the same thing with signet distortion before, but once you’re on a roll with phase 2 the aoe isn’t that big a problem.
I hope this helps some people.
Ring of Fire
I think the pulling orbs can only be destroyed at melee range, either with melee or ranged attacks. It’s funny how it works.
The orbs can be killed with mind stab, I tried.
Ranged attacks don’t seem to work, melee and AoE does(Mind Stab and Illusionary Wave are in the same boat).

So I’m working on ‘Light Up the Darkness’ and am having troubles with cripple on Phase 2. Basically, even though I am cleansing it with Mantra of Resolve (3 casts) she just keeps putting it back on and basically I end up perma-crippled.
Any suggestions to mitigate this? It’s basically to the point where I don’t see the need to equip a condition-cleansing skill since she just puts them back on me.
Also, I saw one Mesmer who got the LUtD achievement while using 6 ‘Superior Runes of the Earth.’ However, looking at their stats I wasn’t too impressed – thoughts on those runes guys? (Obviously they worked for him, but I didn’t want to drop 8g on them until I got some feedback first).
@DayTrooper: have u tried Arcane Thievery, give the cripple back to her would make it easier for you to kite and avoid her lunge I suppose. Just my 2cents.
@Yeah I’m pretty sure I tried that but she just reapplies everything really quickly. I’ll try it again though as perhaps I didn’t give that strategy enough chances.
I think the main problem with this fight isn’t what you’re running but bs camera angles and laughable fps. Do you have a build to increase my fps? Please share!
actually, i didnt even make it up there….im stuck at the tornados…lacking stability and my mantra cast keeps getting interrupted….any advice?

I finally beat her using my standard wvw build
http://intothemists.com/guides/381-gs_prismatic
With Blink instead of Signet of Midnight.
The stealth with torch and decoy works great for Phase 1. In Phase 2 I was finally able to circle around successfully and kite with my GS. While kiting, I constantly healed to maintiain swiftness and for reflection. They key was maintaining swiftness and while continually dumping damage on her with GS 1, 2 and 4. I kept her away from me due to Crippling Dissipation (I think this effected her slightly), Illusionary Wave, and Blink. I also rolled Decoy and MI which would stop her and her shadows completely which allowed me to more easily attack her.
One other tip was that GS 3 verse the orbs worked fairly well since you didn’t have to target it.

@Helios – I tried to look at your build but the linked page gives me an ‘access forbidden’ error. Do you mind posting it here?
Also, how do you ‘constantly heal to maintain swiftness and for reflection?’

Full Centaur Runes.
I’ve even got the eight orb, Light up the Darkness achievement, so take my advice how you wish.
Killing her is amazingly easy if you use atleast 15 points in Dueling for Sharper Images, and 20 Points in Inspiration for a traited focus reflects. The fight starts off the same, every time. The order and placement of her ‘shadow falls’.
For whatever reason, Her whip ability is considered a projectile. You can reflect it, but YOU don’t want to, as it animation locks you into a whipping motion. You want your phantasm to do so. If it reflects it, not only do phantasms reflect for more damage than you do, Each whip causes bleeding and cripple, each whip crit is another bleed.
In a short span of time she’ll be permacrippled with 25 stacks of bleed, and winds up at half-health from one phantasm.
General tips:
Traited Focus: Reflect and negate phase 1’s damage while you’re getting her to 3 orbs to actually damage her.
Sword 3, Illusionary Leap can kill Chaos Rifts. The clone does 1 point of melee damage and is sufficient to kill the rifts.

This build worked for me.. cleansing signets and heals are a must. I used runes of air for speed boost, and orrian truffle soup as well.

Intothemists.com server is clearly kaput. Hopefully they get things up and running again since it’s the best gw2 build crafter imo. As for my wvw build it is 20(V,IX)/20(IV,X)/30(III,V,XII)/0/0 with GS + Sword/Torch with utility skills of Mirror, Feedback, Decoy, Blink, and Mass Invis. My gear type was Knight, Runes were Centaur, and Sigils were Energy and whatever else you want.
That original build actually uses Bountiful Interruption and Null Field usually, but I adjusted that for this fight to increase my mobility.

I just did this with Goose’s build and it took a few tries to get used to it but once I got down the abilities and fight layout, it was pretty easy.
Did it with this build. Thanks Goose.
Did it last night.
Dom 15 (III)
Dueling 20 (II, IV)
Chaos 10 (III)
Inspiration 25 (IV, VIII)
Sword/Sword + Sword/Focus
Knights Armour (Centaur runes), Berserker weapons, mostly berserker jewelry
Mirror heal, Decoy, Arcane Thievery (didn’t really need it due to removing conditions on heal), Blink, Hounds of Balthazar
Endurance food, Strength Booster, Rejuv Booster, Maintenance Oil
Phase 1 – Cast Warden on Liadri for reflects, you can use Temporal Curtain to deflect damage or use it to pull her clones either into or away from the wells.
Phase 2 – Cast iswordsman on her, switch to focus and cast warden on her, use focus to get swiftness however Mirror heal along with Centaur runes and you have almost 100% swiftness. Save your Sword #2 Blurred Frenzy in case you get pulled into an Orb where there is AoE.
Basically in P2, run clockwise and your sword phantasms/warden should kill her. Just make sure that she is in range when you cast your sword phantasms.
Angry Intent [AI] | Yak’s Bend |
Eh, might as well post the build I used to defeat Liadri.
30 Domination (III, X, XI)
20 Dueling (IV, X)
0 Chaos
20 Inspiration (IV, VIII)
0 Illusions
Celestial Armor with Zerker Accessories and 6x Superior Runes of the Pack.
Sword & Focus + G.Sword
Arena: The one located between Destroyers and Pirates. (Easiest/Fastest for me for P1 stage).
Skills: Mantra of Recovery, Signet of Midnight, Mantra of Pain, Mantra of Resolve, Moa Morph.
Pre: Charge up all the Mantras, yes even Mantra of Pain.
P1: Cast Warden and T.Curtain to block Liadri’s projectiles. Use Mantra of Pain to kill the Orbs (never misses). Use Heal skill constantly to keep up Health.
P2: Begin the run to where the Shadows fell previously and counter-clockwise. Use G.Sword + I.Zerker to do damage against Liadri, switching to Sword & Focus for either Evasion or I.Warden while using Mantra of Pain to keep up ranged DPS while waiting on CD of weapon swap. Use Mantra of Recovery and Mantra of Resolve constantly to keep Cripple and Weakness off of yourself. Near the end, swap back to Sword & Focus, use Moa Morph, and burst to remove the last bit of health with a Mind Wrack + Blurred Frenzy and MoPain uses (remember, dodges make clones in this Liadri build for this ending moment).
Remember to use MoPain or Sword Swings to kill off any Orb during P2 as well.
With the constant cripple clearing, I was able to keep a Square path between the sections where the Insta-death drops occur. Not along the edge of the arena, but rather just a little over half-way between the center and the edge of the arena.
Superior Runes of the Pack instead of Centaur was due to my Centaur Runes are actually on a Rabid set, rather then a better DPS (non-condition) set. Still, they did rather well with how often Liadri would tag my character and proccing the effect for Swiftness and Fury rather often.
