Mesmer Condtion build Q
Condition just isn’t a good choice in PvE, especially a Mesmer’s, given the “main” condition being confusing – horrible for PvE – and the rest are random.

I was toying with the idea to setting up a condition/precision build using Sup rune of Tormenting with a sup sigal of tormenting. Thoughts?
Hi! I know a lot of people say that condition sucks in PvE. I,on the other hand, had a different experience: i leveled a my first character ever (a mesmer) until lvl 40 using a condition-ish build. Then i changed to pure damage build with GS, S/P…didn’t turn out so well. I found that i did kill the monsters a lot faster, but i also died a lot easier and i actually spend more time running around than doing something interesting. What’s more, i simply could not take down any champion monster, i either died, or lost aggro and the monster revived himself…So i re-respecked at about lvl 60 into a full condition 0/20/30/0/0 build using Staff, Scepter/Torch and worked my way to 20/20/30/0/0. Having chaos armor up all the time when fighting tough opponents is really handy!
That being said, i’m fully aware that perhaps i didn’t really grasp the power build i tried to use. But i leveled just fine using condition in PvE so i can’t see why you can’t also do that if you want.
Now on the torment idea: I REALLY like it!In fact I might give it a try as well! I’m no expert but i think it could actually work fine.Your idea is better than using rune of the undead or perplexity…I have a question though: what gear would you use in order to get condition damage as well as precision?I guess rabid?

Looking at Rabid or Carrion armor but still working out math
It looks like the Sup Sigil of torment fires off frequently enough to make the Sup Rune of Torment work for the Mes so far in my math.
comments welcome

I don’t want to insult you but … what you just wrote here simply means you are not so clever with your movement and the whole gameplay or even with playing a mesmer.
Condition builds are often a little more tanky. But you’ll deal minor damage compared to a zerker build. Of course condition damage is good on early levels – simply because you just can increase 2 stats. When you can go for power, precision and crit dmg the first time, do it for more damage.
You just need to learn how to play that you won’t get hit. A mesmer is able to stay melee without taking any damage in PvE.
Also condition builds fit terrible in dungeon gameplay, simply because the broken bleeding mechanic (new bleed override old bleed at 25 stacks, ignoring condition damage).
Don’t run a condition build, it’s terrible for PvE in endgame content. Until 40 its pretty fun tough.

Granted, I haven’t played for a month but I don’t agree with those above. Well, not entirely. Condition damage on its own is bad for pve. However, if it supplements power or you work with precision procs, it can be quite formidable. In dungeons, it can create an interesting effect with staff clones. They deal extra damage based on how many conditions an enemy has but they don’t have to be your conditions. Also, against enemies that have moments where they’re invulnerable, conditions may continue to tick away. If you’re good at dodging, condition damage can help you level as well because condition procs still work well on higher level enemies where raw damage won’t. I have killed enemies up to 8 levels higher because of this.

Mesmers have almost no skills that deal good condition damage. However I have to agree that some hybrid builds deal pretty ok with most enemies. The problem is that they are focused on shatter and therefore won’t support much dungeon support. The damage is ok, and if it’s fun for you why not, however it’s not that awesome for others. And since mesmers aren’t going to be the dd’s in groups in first place, it’s a bit wasted potential.

Just … no. Staff clones do simply the 1 of your staff. You seem to mix them up with the P.Warlock. Its a POWER BASED phantasm that gains strengh from DIFFERENT conditions on the enemy. It doesn’t matter how strong those conditions are. Also – the staff is mainly a power weapon. Clone damage is weak, and just medium on a full condition build.

@Xyonon. Your comment was based on confusion and before the condition/precision build using Sup rune of Tormenting with a sup sigal of tormenting mechanic. Though this still may not be good. Just a new idea.
Can you comment on that idea and more importantly link a really strong PVE Mesmer build?
Thanks

I read on a bug post that the tormenting runes don’t give the +45% duration to the scepter 2 block, which is our main source of torment.
Regretably condi specs are not so great in pve, especially mesmer. With a staff focused build, rabid/rampager gear you can put out decent pressure, but in world boss/dungeon situations power builds will be better. No harm in trying though if that’s what you want.

But you missed my point. I am using the Percision to trigger the Sup Rune of Torment to get a steady stream of metronome and the Sup rune of Tormenting to extend and supercharge it.
Thanks all for the input! It was a good discussion. Can you link a great non-condition PVE/Champ build?

My comment was based on any condition the mesmer can fight with.
Superior Rune of Tormenting
- (1): +28 Condition Damage.png Condition Damage
- (2): 15% Torment Duration
- (3): +55 Condition Damage.png Condition Damage
- (4): 15% Torment Duration
- (5): +100 Condition Damage.png Condition Damage
- (6): 15% Torment Duration and AoE 2 Stacks of Torment on Heal (20s cooldown)
This rune is terrible, even for a condition build. I can image some uses in PvP, but definitly not PvE. We have exactly one torment skill wich shouldn’t be the main source of damage. It’s a defensive ability. Also additional 2 stacks of torment on heal are meh, and with 20s cd its just weak.

Well there are plenty. What are your favourite weapons? Or how do you play? Do you change your weapons, ranged, melee, mixed, changing skills much, glamour, mantra, shatter? Need some informations

I’d also like some damage builds
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-PvE-Dungeons-Phantasm-build-s/
I found a damage build here that I use. It has served me well in open world and is very potent in dungeons for dealing a lot of damage. It does take some getting used to if you are coming from a ranged style of play, such as GS, Staff, or Scepter, and it takes time to get used to not having deceptive evasion to save you and use other abilities instead. That being said, once you’re used to the build and play style it has good survivability while pumping out some impressive PvE damage. As for WvW, it’s, well, terrible I’ve found, but you did say PvE damage build.
A warning, the author of the build, while right in so many of his points, can come across quite harsh at times. I’m not a fan of his personality, at all, but he’s got a nice build going. I’d glean what you can from his post and let any negatives roll off your back.

I got the armor weapons and build. But I do have a few question about play.
I am using Sword with off hands sword/focus. Is the proper way to play you use the Skill #5’s to send out Phantasms while you sit back and apply the different fields to protect yourself from ranged attacks?
Also what are good 6,7,8,9? I was thinking Ether Feast, Null Field, Feedback, Decoy.
Thanks
Just wanted to mention: Illusionary Counter on the scepter is an offensive skill, not defensive. In Spvp (where damage is lower than WvW) It will do about 9k damage if the target keeps moving. Using 6 torment sigils would turn that in about 13k damage :o
Condition builds are amazing for pvp, but sucks in pve due to the way we applicate it, and it gets capped with other condition users. Besides, power damage is just higher :/.
@Xyonon Mesmers have alot of acces to conditions, you just have to look for it :P.
Warning: link may contain traces of awesome.
