I was thinking about rolling a Mesmer but somewhere I read that Mesmer’s don’t have good damage and I was wondering if this is true or if Mesmer’s have high damage.

Mesmers have high damage in a lot of situations.

In endgame PvE and large-scale WvW, their damage is average because they need to keep up phantasms (pets) to sustain high damage, but these die easily. However, they have a lot of reflects which are useful against specific bosses, as these can do far more damage than normal attacks. As well, the high burst damage that Mesmers have might be more useful with new boss mechanics in the expansion.

In PvP, Mesmers have some of the best burst damage in the game, which makes for lots of fun plays.

If you are just doing open-world PvE and leveling, Mesmer damage isn’t that great. Mesmer becomes much stronger with more access to traits which you don’t have at the start.

Doing lots of damage is nice but that is hardly the only or most important thing when it comes to picking a class.

Don’t listen to this guy he has no clue. In a game made up of hp bars that need to be depleted, damage is one of the most if not the most important thing to bring.

In PvE, damage is king. There’s no question about it.

People talking about mesmer reflects clearly haven’t been with a guardian, who brings better projectile deflection anyways on top of better damage and more boons and aegis for the group.

Mesmer is only good for some spvp (pvp arenas) and dueling. That’s it. Anywhere else it’s vastly overshadowed.

If in PvE damage is king, why did you even try to go to fractals 50 with necro?
There is clearly something else to playing a certain class than big damage numbers.

Because I’m sick of playing ele/guardian? Difference is my ele/guardian join a 50 and stay in a 50.

My necro joins one 4 times and before I can even zone into the instance I’m kicked from the party. LFG advertises constantly with “warrior/ele/thief/guardian only/heavies preferred”. I have to cycle groups until I’m not kicked upon joining. This has NEVER happened with guardian/ele/warror/thief.

I know you guys love to pretend hierarchies don’t exist, but it’s not honest telling a guy who came to ask a question that everything is fine and dandy.

Mesmer damage is situational. You only deal nice damage when the situation favors you. If the situation is not favor you.. Well yeah i agree maybe other class will have better damage.

Example for Shatter Mes u will need clone(s) to deal damage. Or for Phantasm u need summon 2 or 3. Or halting Strike trait u need to “Read” enemy Animation and stability.

The damage is OK but find the correct situation to abuse ur damage is the hard part. It’s not easy to play so u need to be more opportunist compared any other class.

why do people pve at all in GW2 ? I don’t get it tbh.
