Yeah nerf portals ……. stupid patch….
why do they nerf mind stab? wtf?! it’s already useless……… Now it doesn’t even deserve to be called a weapon skill… I really don’t get their balance philosiphy…
Does this mean there has to be line of sight between the entry and exit portal?

Hopefully they’re referring to Sword: Mind Stab which originally only hit one target.
Mind stab wasn’t nerfed, it was buffed !
Mind stab is the third skill in our sword auto attack chain, the others are gash and slash
It used to hit just one target, now it hits three, and still removes a boon i suppose and still does a lot of damage.
I like it actually.
I was in the transition of rebuilding my mesmer to some sort of fencer build s/s s/f
Mirror now is even better, i like that skill
The portal nerf i don’t care about really.
Oh, but let’s judge the patch after a few days, until all the sneaky nerfs have been discovered :p

Wouldn’t consider the portal change as a nerf, it’s a fix imo. Just means that you can’t press “F” when there’s something between you and the portal (that’s how I understand the patchnote)
Mind stab was “meh” and it’s still “meh”. Don’t care about that skill… never got 5 targets into that small AoE anyways.

Before this patch 1st and 2nd chain hit 3 targets but 3rd chain (mind stab) hits the targeted one only.
Portal should be largely useless now…

Placing can still be done however the eff we want… If you place a portal that is on an obstruction the interaction is different.

Could be used in combat, while simply way pointing out wasn’t always an option. Granted, this was a rare occurance, but I know i’ve used it this way more then a handful of times.

I think they’re referring to being able to Use [F] the Portal through a wall or something.
For instance, if I’m in a keep and drop a Portal Exit in the courtyard and drop Portal Entrance on the inside of the keep’s gate, players cannot use the Portal Entrance since it’s obstructed by the gate.
i don’t understand if the object must be between the 2 portals or between the player and a portal.
edit: if it were like knacky ha spointed out, it would be a complete absurdity, since i don’t see the need for a portal in an open space. what sort of mage cannot open a gate between two points, no matter what’s in the middle. this completely screws the logic of a portal itself. just remove the skill and improve blink range and make it aoe for allies.

They are referring to the Sword version of Mind Stab that only hit one target.
The Great Sword version of Mind Stab continues to hit five.

Ouch yeah I forgot the #3 GS is Mind Stab too. We will see if it is a Sword buff or GS nerf.
I think the portal nerf means, that if u are stuck in awall, people cant portal u out anymore. In WvW there is or was a spot at bay watergater wher the mesmer was able to place the port through watergate and portal people inside after being rezzed through watergate.

Mirror getting buffed. Mind Stab (1h sword skill not GS skill, right?) getting buffed. The Prestige getting buffed. Along with bug fixes! What’s not to love?

We need this regularly to free people who get stuck while building siege equipment.
/e: their statistical team probably came to the conclusion that not many people were using a torch because The Prestige felt so counterintuitive. I cancelled the effect countless times… still kept using it though, really happy with that change
Best thing about this patch: NO MESMER NERFS! YAY!

The portal change isn’t a big deal (if I understand it correctly). Being able to interact with a portal through a door was extremely broken and abused in WvW.
The Mirror change is interesting but probably not interesting enough to get me to use it.
The Prestige change is huge! O.M.G. The days of random AoE damage knocking us out of stealth are over.
No big buff to Scepter? O-oh, well see you guys next month then.

The patch notes tend to just be a bit if a primer anyhow. Mesmers always seem to get a few rather big unmentioned changes slipped in. Like Trident last month.
I was hoping for a little scepter love. Like making its use a little “smoother”. i.e. reduce the #3 wind up a bit or #2 block a little smoother in execution. At least Illusionary Counter & Riposte got bug fixes.

They game wont let you patch if you have a mesmer, that seems to be the stealth nerf.

On mind stab we are aware there are two skills with this name. We are renaming one of them for the March build but for now we did indeed buff the mainhand sword end of chain skill for slot #1 called mind stab from 1 target to 3 targets.
I was so hoping for a better run speed ability. >_< Sigh…still tied down to the focus.
the good skill of torch was buffed while the crap one was unchanged……….. wierd but nice to have xD
mirror became interesting again I guess.

Me too If they’d just change Signet of Inspiration so it only applies Aegis/Swiftness/Vigor out of combat and if other sources of swiftness would finally stack with Temporal Curtain! That is so ultra annoying…
I’m happy with the changes, but there are still so many severe bugs that it instantly makes me feel sad about being a mesmer again

this is a 15 cd heal
Now the reflect is not as useless. Still a little short
I go with runes of centaur to avoid focus,
the heal change is a big help. That means about 13sec run speed on 15 sec cooldown.

I vote on renaming the GS version since it doesn’t fit the weapon’s theme.
I always pictured it more as a spatial attack, stabbing your greatsword through a portal to strike at enemies from below.

Ahh, now I understand why the block from scepter #2 often didn’t spawn a clone. The range was obviously too small.
Mesmer Portals:
Don’t complain about this one, it’s an important fix to prevent exploits. Read the post from “selan” to see how the exploit worked.
Mind Stab: (1h sword)
An unexpected little buff, dunno why they did it but hey, I don’t complain.
Illusionary Riposte:
Hmm, I guess it was the same range problem like with scepter #2 block.
Mirror:
Cool, I might use Mirror instead of Ether Feast. This makes our healing abilites more equal and allows more ways to play a mesmer. Thanks.
The Prestige:
Oooohhhh this sounds so nice. Hopefully we can do dodge rolls or even cast stuff without breaking the secondary effect. Does it even trigger the secondary effect if we break stealth early, before the 3 seconds are over? That would be great! Unfortunately the torch phantasm is still crap, please have a look at it.
While you’re at it, add cripple to the great sword when you rename it. Fits pretty well as it could hamstring anyone from below. The benefit of this spell is overshadowed by the self root and small target radius.

The Mirror change is good, I’m still not a fan of it though. In my experience you usually want to heal when you’re hurt, not waste potential HPS by waiting for an opportune moment to reflect to get the most of the heal. And if you aren’t reflecting any damage then you are getting less HPS than EF offers without clones. In a difficult fight you’ll often need to heal as soon as its off CD, which you just have to hope coincides with a projectile.
I guess it’s offensive potential balances that out, but I like to have reliable healing when I need it and not have to reflect projectiles or essentially 3s daze myself to get the most of it. Though I can see where it has uses in less heal intensive situations or certain fights (especially WvW). My prime use for it lately has been Swiftness with my Centaur Runes.
As to Illusionary Counter and Illusiomary Riposte, can we get some real animations for these skills? The damage aspect was tacked on in beta and the drawn out ‘raise my arm’ animation has always seemed rather placeholder-ish.
I’d like to see the Mesmer (or better yet, his clone) strike at the enemy in response with the sword, or an explosion of magic for Counter. Anything but the boring animation it has now.
