Howdy

Been playing GW2 for about a month a half, started with a ranger that I leveled to 80 but once there I immediately ditched her and started leveling a mesmer which I like much better. Just leveled her to 80 but I am still a noob and have so many questions.

First, it seems like everyone prefers berserkers armor. I spent yesterday leveling to 400 in tailoring but I can’t afford the mats or to buy from the trading post a full set of exotic berserkers armor. I don’t have enough Karma either. I’ve read places that people want you to have a full set of exotic armor to run dungeons so I guess those will have to wait. I was able to buy a full set of rare lvl 80 berserkers armor. Now I need runes and upgrades for them but again, I don’t have that much gold so I can’t afford the more exp ones atm. What affordable ones would you guys suggest?

And weapons- I’ve just been playing PVE,and that along with dungeons, will be my primary focus once I’m geared better. I watched the comprehensive mesmer guide which really helped and he seemed to favor staff sword/focus so that’s what Ive been using with success. What weapons do you guys rec and what base stats/upgrades should I look for with those?

Couldn’t resist replying to your post while browsing the forums on my phone First of all, concerning your armor, either assassin’s or ‘zerker armor is favoured by mesmers across all game modes (unless you are running a condi build). I would recommend staying with your ’un-upgraded’ rare armor until you have enough gold/tokens to afford either assassin’s (for reflects, as only the reflect damage is ‘bounced’, not the crit chance,) or berserker exo armor with whatever superior runes are meta at the moment. The runes I am using are scholar, but that is mainly because I have an ele and I like to swap asc armor between the two.
Staff may be ok for OPEN WORLD PvE, but I find its power dps terrible in comparison to that of the sword. Most mesmers who want to out the most damage in dungeons run sword/x + sword/x, fitting the situation. If you didn’t know, you can hold the same main hand weapon in both sets without having to buy two weapons and just slot in your two off hands. All this may be unclear to you, but i’d recommend looking at a dedicated dungeon guide for mesmers, which I think could be found in this forum.

Good luck playing mesmer, rolling one after my guardian reached level 80 was one of my best choices in the game.
