Is this how a majority of Mesmer players feel? I know I feel this way and the person who wrote this obvious feels this way.

Unfortunately, I think Mesmer is back to where the majority of GW2 players likes it, in Meh condition. This last set of nerfs just proves it. Some skills (phase retreat, izerker, etc) stay broken for months, but as soon as they give mesmers a little buff and BOOM the 50% nerf bat comes out Again in weeks or even days.(DD?) lol . and the 50% nerf to everything (confusion, retal. stealth, ect.) flys in the face of why they made HP so much higher than GW1. It was supposed to be so they could “fine tune” skills and dam. by making “small tweaks” to skills, well 50% again and again and now again does not feel like a small tweak, and shows that they do listen to the QQ and cowtow to pressure, Its a lot easier to crush the mes. community since its only about 9% of player base than listen to the other 91%

Please be more specific. Where do you think we are lacking?
There are a lot of different viable playstyles.

This last set of nerfs just proves it.

Mesmer was too strong and the nerfs were justified.

Its a lot easier to crush the mes. community since its only about 9% of player base than listen to the other 91%

That argument is true for every profession, so no real argument at all…

No I’m quite happy at the moment.

The only thing annoying me is the amount of player hatred there is targeted at mesmers. Sure it’s always been the case, but it’s reaching a new high (or low depending on which side you are).

It’s almost making me want to switch to a different class as main because I’m honestly fed up with qq/hatred directed at this class.

Yes, I will assume that most of us feel, care for something and/or someone. So yes, Mesmer players do feel.

As for us being in a bad state, what in the world are you on about? If anything, we’re in a greater state than we ever were. Arcane Thievery now transfers Blind. Chaotic Dampening recharges Staff skills that tiny bit faster. At least Duelist’s Discipline works now, even if it at the same time was balanced. Harmonious Mantras damage buff lasts 2 more seconds. Phantasmal Disenchanter attacks rather quickly now too. PU works while downed, and sure, stealth duration is reduced slightly, but it still adds another second to basically all our stealth abilities. Ok, fair enough, I guess if you overly relied on Stealth, I can see this being a issue, I never use stealth, so I don’t notice this change at all—we’re not weak because of it. Signet of Ether now finally heals without clones too! Temporal Curtain change is HUGE, and it finally makes Focus feel useful in group scenarios such as World vs. World, where you can actually contribute to more Swiftness than say a single Symbol of Swiftness will do. Awesome! And our Sword auto-attacks has received a 10% damage increase on each swing (last one without Boons, but it’s still helpful to our damage, if you use Sword that is).

With Chronomancer on the horizon, basically Mesmer 2.0, we find ourselves in one of the better states we’ve been in a very long time. Only 19 more days (and however long it takes to unlock).

I’ve been here through it all.

  • I feel Mesmer is pretty good right now, and I like Chrono, it’s strong.
  • I do see the Mesmer hate/QQ, and while it’s always been there, it has some new vigor. That said I’m unphased by it. When I enter I match or read the forums it just blows by me and I go on dominating my opponents, same as before the trait change buffs. I expect they’ll get over it and on with their lives at some point.
  • Any “nerfs” have unconcerned me. I don’t see the devs being over the top, though I recognize condi mesmers are frustrated. It’s fair to say that needs looking into.

I am happy with current state of the class but definitely feel annoyed from time to time by the ungrounded, no-logic QQ.

Luckily it seems like the current devs are doing a good job to keep things in the right way.

Also, it is still a very challenging class to play. We don’t need to worry every player and their daughter start to play mesmer even if the class is strong(like dd ele).

I can’t describe how satisfied I am right now with mesmer…I really am though (Although a revert of the mirror nerf would be nice but oh well). I must agree the hate is annoying although I’ve never been directly affected by it but I have seen it. Other classes are so basic and cliche, A common staple of every game but mesmer is a so fresh (to me at least) another reason I love the class so much. So no matter the nerfs mesmer will always be a favorite and my #1.

Condi Mesmers are the only ones worse off then before, and I think even that is somewhat debatable. (Potency is down, but our shatter cadence has improved, especially with Chronomancer.)

Power Shatter Mesmer is as good as ever in PvP, with a lot of nice QoL changes. PU is technically still better than before June 23 even after the most recent nerf.

PvE Phantasm Mesmer has basically held the same position of being at the bottom of the DPS totem pole but still viable just for skips and reflects — they neither lost nor gained there. With Chronomancer, Mesmer gets a super viable PvE spec that doesn’t rely on our weak, unreliable Phantasm DPS.

He is right on three accounts

1. GW2 playerbase wants Mesmer to be kitten and will proabably still call for nerfs then.
2. When it comes to Mesmers (and a few other classes) Anet is increadbly heavy handed with nerfs and will outright destroy traits and skills.
3. On these classes Anet will often nerf based on forum whine rather then the actual effectiveness of the builds or how strong they are compared to the other classes (see Condi Mesmer).

I main mesmer in both games. Both had suffered quite a bit due to PvP vs PvE. Even though I played other professions, I still come back. It’s sad that whenever mesmers get new toys to play with, others want to break (nerf) them; I know it’s not just mesmers, but seriously, it took them how long to nerf ele’s ice bow? There is one big thing that I noticed in the mesmer community that other profession communities seem to not often do (besides complaining) – trying to find workarounds/alternatives. It’s probably why I’m brave enough to ask even stupid questions to help clarify or seek advice in the mesmer forums; with other forums and abundance of “whinings”, I’m afraid of asking questions for fear of getting yelled at.

Overall, I am very happy with Chronomancer. In PvP, there are ways to counter them (i.e. – knockback them out of their well), but again, it’s a “new concept” to many people so they’d assume we’re OP. In PvE, we finally got some more utility/support to help others. I’ve come to accept that mesmer is not meant to be a high, sustainable damage dealer and more of a bursty damage/utility/supporter.

I’m loving my mesmer more than ever now. I’m playing PvE power shatter Chronomancer with Sw/Sh + X right now and its amazing. I finally have desirable group support in the form of alacrity + quickness. I’m not just being brought along for reflects anymore. I’m 100% fine with not having top tier dps at this point because now I can provide top tier support…with mid tier dps. Playing my mesmer is now exciting and active…versus trying to keep three phantasms active at all times to compete. I was skeptical, initially, regarding the new focus on shatters in PvE, but I’m loving it now. The only things missing are a few tweaks to the iAvenger to get it to pop in and out of melee like the iSwordsman and iBerserker…plus whatever the survival increase they are talking about for pets/minions and other AI units. I want to thank RG for his great work and actually addressing our issues. I’d also hope he doesn’t cave into what he already told us was a bad design…making the iAvenger into another range spam phantasm again. It will be much more interesting to have the iAvenger be a functional melee phantasm.

I play shatter chrono in pve as well which is specced heavily into alacrity. It all feels so fast and fluid: the shattering, the phantasm generation, I love it! I tried to spec into alacrity in pvp as well, but you are giving up on so much utility and your shatters are much harder to land that it is less viable in that environment. I would like to remind everyone that any nerf right now to alacrity is a nerf to the pve mesmer and its group performance and not to the pvp chrono.

However I can understand why pvp chrono is such an nuisance to many players right now and it has different causes:

- Players do not yet know how to counter chrono (like glint/shiro herald; 3 manning on a Herald with infuse light on and then saying it heals for its full hp, how could that be?)

-chrono can chain invulnerability a little too well atm with sword/shield. The downside is that we have to blow all our cooldowns (high risk/reward) But then again: if you do not attack a chrono with a purple bubble you can end that chain, simple as that (counter play) This makes mindlessly spamming necro wells are going to get rubbed in their face, generally, aoe ticking fields.

Let’s all just wait for the dust to settle down

I don’t think any of these things are a problem, because just like you said, they are things with significant counter play. That’s pretty much what PvP is supposed to be about…recognizing and countering your opponent. Its nobody’s fault but their own for attacking a herald with infuse light active. Its the same as continuing to range attack a druid through sublime conversion. The same goes for attacking a chronomancer through echo of memory/deja vu. The same with fast attacking a guardian with retaliation. The same with trying to melee a reaper. All learn to play issues for them.

As far as mesmer/chronomancer main hand sword goes, that weapon pays a significant dps penalty for its defensive nature. Maybe the single lowest dps main hand in the game…even after the 10% auto attack buff…plus you have to be in melee range. I see no issues with combining two very low dps weapons…as chronomancer off hand shield has no real offense either. They have to be very defensive as the trade off for very low offense + high melee support.

It’s not like the PU nerf changed anything, really… I’d rather see the last 0.5 extra second on Decoy/Presitige removed (that is, reverted to its old state) and buff the boons it gives in exchange (remove might, increase duration).

Didn’t really play chrono that much, since i’m too lazy to gear for WvW and our PvP training arena was kinda empty this weekend.
