Q:

Ok so I’m new to the game. Been looking at chronomancer game play and liking what I see. Leaning towards sword/shield + sword/sword builds but all guides say the same thing at the start, but nobody elaborates so a new player actually knows what on earth you mean!

“Summon 3 phantasms.”

How?!

If you’re new, I recommend you to go in-game and play the class a bit to learn what’s a phantasm, what’s a clone, etc. Then you will be able to better understand the gameplay videos and the rotation.

Now to the question. You can only summon 3 phantasms at once using:

- Signet of the Ether (reset phantasm skills cooldown);
- Continuum Shift (F5 shatter, Chronomancer only);
- Echo of Memory (Shield skill, can summon 2 phantasms, Chronomancer only).

Example: Phantasmal Swordsman > Signet of Ether > Phantasmal Swordsman > switch weapons > Phantasmal Warden

You can go to the PvP lobby (the character level is adjusted to 80, and all skills/traits are unlocked) to test the Chronomancer skills.

Also, Mesmer is a complex class, so it’s generally not recommended for new players.

Thanks for the answer! That’s what I needed to know.

I have been playing and leveling (though not 80 yet) and looking at skills in game but I wasn’t quite understanding what people meant as they weren’t using any of the abilities on their bars to summon anything. They just had 3 summoned from the start.

Because it’s complex is why I want to play it. I’m new to gw2, but I’m not new to this style of game. It’s simpler than some other things I’ve had to play in other games. Now I know how they are getting these 3 phantasms before even starting combat everything else makes much more sense.

Thank you for your help.

Yeah, as Fye said, you just need to play the class more. Make sure you’re really reading the descriptions of skills and traits, and if necessary use the /wiki command to get more information. The majority of these guides are written with the understanding that the audience at least has a basic understanding of the class, and so they don’t go into details like how to summon phantasms.
