I played Mesmer for a couple of week and mesmer is seriously in a OP state at the moment and a bit of tone down is needed in my opinion. Both power and condition are EXTREMELY efficient.

Stun on daze, massive shatter dmg (with right spec and setup), perma torment, ranged, almost as stealthy as thief, tankier… all in one. Am i right? Discuss…

Well mesmer is in a better state than ranger… but that does not say a lot.

I think I am a fairly unbiased person when it comes to balance, I do not try to favor my favorite classes. For example, I do not feel bad for saying I think chrono was a bit OP. But core mesmer is seriously balanced. The burst is high but not too high considering the low sustained damage. The stealth has been tone down and is now in the right spot. Tanky? I don’t know where you saw that. And the greatest part of all, mesmers currently have a fairly decent build diversity within the roaming role (and chrono should add good non-roaming specs).

Its tankier than a thief with almost same defense mechanism and sustain dps is one of the best in open field (phantasm dealing quite some dmg). The added blind on shatter is a bit too much. Everything kind of fall on the upper edge of the balance line. Go play some other class!

I have considered that I am bad. But I think, for the major community of GW2 mesmer needs a tone down. Im not a SPVP hero or a complete scrub at SPVP. Im just stating that for the common player out there, mesmers need the nerf hammer

Also Like my signature says, I main ranger and thats a bit why I could considered bad as the class always did poorly. And it continues! With the nerf bat coming to druid… I dont have much hope on the class.

As a zerk playing Mes, sure there’s plenty of classes/builds I can destroy. Then there’s those classes/builds I have a back and forth with, and need to be mindful of. Then, of course, there’s those classes/builds that are dug in and I can’t root out by myself. Finally there’s those classes/builds that are set to hard counter me.

Wow, I guess when you actually look at it things are working out fine.

Fire dmg probably wasn’t nerfed because of all the QQ about Dragonhunters. They probably didn’t want to make more guardians quit the game. However, I heard some very great things about upcoming changes to dh so maybe that nerf is incoming soon.

Guys give it a rest. Wait till a week after HoT goes live. Please. Anything we decide now might not exist then. For all we know scrapper might be the next OP catcall.

Can confirm: Pyro’s not a cat, but does purr very loudly when petted.

I found that the opposite is true. The increase in base condition damage of pet plus WHaO buff make ranger so much easier to play. Not to mention the new pets to be added after HoT while Mesmer only have one new phantasm. Furthermore F5 key does not bring new skills to Mesmer at all. And using F5 on Mesmer can be risky if trigger at the wrong time. Mesmer is very difficult to play well.

Edit: Dug out my old calculations on the comparison of old berserker vs marauder, with the mirror blade nerf we’re actually doing the about the same burst damage as before the patch. 11.8k total burst if it all crits vs 11.9k total bursting it all crits.

The OP forget to add…

Constant stability
Immune to conditions
Super low cooldowns
Lots of Blinds
Permanent reflection/projectile destruction
High mobility

Having to pick trait lines (yuck!), being stuck with only 3 utility skills + 1 elite (ewwww!) and having to choose armor/amulet stats (whaaaaaat!?) are not things a mesmer has to worry about.

Aniway would not be a problem if it was only “a bit too op”. Problem is that is also the easiest class i’ve tried in this game. Yesterday it happened i duelled a warrior with my mesmer wich i didnt used for like what.. 2 years? Well i just fell asleep, there was nothing that warrior could do to win, every action stun i made was immediate, every skill and burst is an instant no cast time, it’s too easy to play cuz every single action can be done by pressing a button and it’s IMMEDIATE. Also too many skills available even when i’m stunned i can still phase retreaat? RLLY?? This is ridicoulous.
But what rlly make the mesmer OP is not only their instant skills no cast time no skill needed gameplay, but their amazing traits. I really couldnt chose sometimes, they looked so amazing and well synergizing with each other.

I ended logging of and going back to my warrior, cuz i was afraid to lose skill by keeping using this class. In fact, there’s no REAL adrenaline when playing it^^, it’s like i can always recover from a bad situation and i’m not punished enough. Too many autoprocs blind/daze/immediate stun from range/aegis, and kiting is too easy to do untill next burst CD is ready again.

There’s a lot of people who say mesmer are too OP at the moment, yet they don’t know anything about the class.
People who think mesmers are too OP usually lack that bit of experience people should have to be considered as a valid voice when arguing.
There was that guildmate who said mesmers were just too much, and I asked how to kill a PU condi mesmer, and he said it’s impossible. Then I add heavy condi pressure and I’m still waiting for his response.

Mesmers are not OP. Yes, they are very powerful in some scenarios, specially in small scale fights and duels, but that doesn’t mean they are unkillable. In the other hand, they are subpar compared to other professions in other scenarios, like pve or big scale fights.

It amazes me how people can criticize mesmer performance, while eles, warriors and guards are meta in absolutely all game modes, necros can deal insane damage in AoE while having 50-70k of health pool, thieves can deal +10k damage with 1 button and from stealth or rangers can deal great burst from 1500 where they’re completely safe.

But it seems that if mesmer is anything but rubbish it deserves to be nerfed.

Ah… warriors tears… 30k hp 2xEP tons of dmg and cc high mobility and damage with evade frame warriors…

Best part is when mesmer can proc stuns dazes and blinds from aegis… Blind from range = long-sightedness?

Mesmer are Op like warrior were 1.5 years ago. Mesmer are on top right now but things will change… It’s a MMO with patch cycle.

On top of what exactly? 1v1 PvP maybe? As far as I recall, that is not what they balance around. The issue you guys are having is that you all keep attempting to face roll mesmers by trying to melee/zerk them down and end up getting face rolled in return by shatters….which are a hard counter to low hp/low defensive characters. This is going to keep happening until:

1. You guys learn to deal with shatters
-or-
2. ANET changes the mesmer class mechanic to be utility instead of damage oriented

I really don’t see #1 happening since there is a steady influx of bads to repeat the same mistakes. I think #2 is the more likely scenario, if anything, but ANET has been exceedingly resistant to shift mesmer damage onto the actual mesmer instead of the phantasms/shatters. If #2 actually happened, they could finally fix mesmer sustained damage as well…instead of just the burst that bads cry about in PvP.

before the 20th patch: nope, we were competing the last place with necro and ranger
after the 20th patch: okish and underwhelming in dps when compare to other class but at least shatter burst help in pvp

I am sorry your example is not a very convincing one. Your main is Warrior and your Mesmer has been idle for two years. That means in fact you are an experienced Warrior in soul duel against a low rank Warrior. You should win unless Mesmer is very poorly designed.

Besides, GW2 is built around the concept of paper-rock-scissors. There is always one build to counter another.

Furthermore, if burning is the new meta. Berserker is going to have constant access of burning. Whereas Mesmer mainly access burning through RNG. Obviously Mesmer is in disadvantage.

Wait until Chrono and super speed illusion shatters because it’s going to be an endless saga of tears.

Guess what – I decided to play engineer for a little while today – first time I’ve picked it up in over 2 years only to mess around in hotjoin.

I found it incredibly easy to play – full elixir condition build with elixir gun and pistol/shield.

I didn’t even know exactly how most of the skills worked and the amount of boons, condi removal, conditions, blocks, reflects, invulns, AoEs and so on were totally mindless.

Stupidly easy class to play – makes mesmer look like rocket science.

I was killing people left right and centre, and survivability was ridiculous, even as an almost total noob to the class.

Engineer OP?

Edit: Oh I forgot to add – fighting against some greatsword mesmers it was as usual incredibly easy to either block or dodge shatters because you can predict when they’re going to burst in the opening of a fight.
