I am but a few days away from starting to level my mesmer and I had a question or so about something I hear about mesmers doing in WvW.

How do they stay hidden in keeps/towers without detection, only to launch a portal to bring in allies without taking out the outer defences?

There are places you can hide in some of the keeps.

hmm, ok mistake. I assumed a certain build was allowing them to stealth indefinitely until it was time to drop a portal.

Only a thief can perma stealth inside a tower/keep(SM outer only), due to cloak and dagger issue, attack wall and no damage dealt and some trait with constant iniative regen, so they can “spam” it gaining constant stealth, then they can “rezz” a downed mesmer if they have one inside, this is the only possible way to do it I suppose, but remember the team that captures a structure to 99% mesmer sweep and then they leave one or two to guard the corpse to see nobody rezz them.

and if a thief perma stealth attack C&D, on a wall keep will get contested so you will know something is wrong though

sometimes you can try /sleep and angle yourself to clip inside of a wall or something—this helps and i have done it once that worked, although npc’s somehow out of nowhere I aggroed lol. Try doing that if you can find a spot already sort of out of foot traffic, it worked for me behind a supply camp where no one was really going but of course the npc’s caught on and then I was toast!

And even when you do get found you can cause some pretty good distraction: having fifteen people chasing you in circles in the moat around bay is pretty amusing.

If you really want, you can try running 30 Chaos for Prismatic Understanding, and run Decoy, Veil, and Mass Invisibility to hopefully hide again after being found.

The problem is that you won’t do much damage in combat, and if you get found once, someone calls it out and a mesmer hunt begins until you’re found and dead. I’ve tried it, but it’s not hugely helpful, especially since Veil leaves a marker on the ground…
