Cyrus Glitch – sPvP/tPvP Mesmer
Doctor Loki – sPvP/tPvP/WvW Power Necro
I know this topic has been done to death, but I have recently joined a guild specifically for small group roaming and its highlighted just how slow mesmers are compared to other professions. Group composition tends to be Engineer, Thief or warrior. The engi has speedy kits for permanent swiftness, thief with signet and warrior with the new buffed speed trait 25% and mobility from GS + utils.
It’s extremely frustrating, even when using a focus which isn’t part of my build (having to hard change before fights and focus swiftness does not even stack) I can’t keep up, they are having to wait for me to catch up. I also should also not be expected to change out to certain runes just to get a speed increase at the detriment of my build/performance.
I really enjoy my mesmer but I’m starting to become a burden to the group so reluctantly may have to shelve my mesmer in favour of a profession that has equal mobility as the group. So anet, are you finally going to give mesmer some way of keeping up with nearly every other profession in the game? or do I have to retire my favourite profession or play something else just to do something as basic as….keep up.
Honestly, no. We need a more general rethinking of OOC speed.
If it’s supposed to be higher than it is without swiftness, increase it to Swiftness-levels and then make it not stack with anything else (everyone is on the same page out of combat).
If it’s not supposed to be higher, then remove such shoddy workaround such as Speedy Kits. Having to constantly swap kits is bleh in the first place, plus it locks up 10 trait points for something which is a game design question, not a class design one.
If it’s intended that some classes are faster than others out of combat, make the balance more even, not 7:1.
I’ve said this one before. If we were meant to have a “ranking” of out-of-combat speed:

i just don’t understand how giving mesmers and guardians an out of combat speed boost to be in any way OP, all people are asking is to be brought up to speed with the 6 professions that have out of combat speed options.
And this is (one reason why) I really miss having mounts. There is indeed no good reason to give some classes easy, long-duration or permanent access to out of combat speed while others can’t get the same. Different degrees access to speed boosts in combat, balanced with other features? Fine. Out of combat? Not fine.
All the people tbh that say mesmers dont need a 25% movement speed trait or signet.. is crazy.. stupid cuz tbh.. Every other class.. has acesss to swiftness.. without having to put on a rune set. or take.. a weapon. set ur stuck with if u get into combat and cant switch it out. like lets be honest here its verry much true..
Mesmer is the only class that u have to take a swiftness rune set and focus just to even roam around in pve aswell as if ur planning to roam a bit in WvW alone aswell. like come out every other class has access to extra swiftness BUT US how is that even fair at all ? i dont see how it will be OP.. some classes even have perma swiftness thats not OP ? lmao.. cant be serious man..

Can any of you whine and cry any harder? Geezus, mesmer has token means to acquire OOC speed and you just mentioned what they were – if YOU opt to not utilize them, then why whine and cry about not having OOC buffs – your simply whining because of the choice YOU made. =.=
I’ve said this one before. If we were meant to have a “ranking” of out-of-combat speed:
- ANet coded themselves into a corner by changing all move Signets to be 20%
- They should’ve instead ranked them by “desired” speed class. For instance:
1.) Assuming Thieves are the “masters” of speed, then they would pack 20%
2.) Other classes could then run at -say- 10-15%
3.) This would have freed up the ability to toss an OOC speed boost to us and
Guardians, without all the whinging about “OP.” At least, one would hope.
Thieves still are the fastest, they can trait for +50% speed while in stealth
The Ggroups I run with do static+blast finisher or do AoE Swiftness-es. If you don’t want to shelve the Mesmer, you’re going to have to bite the bullet on not wanting to exchange runes.
As for Mesmers needing speed: no. I don’t think my little Sylvari having a speed boost is op, but I think of it as another useless utility/trait that I don’t need/want. I’d be in favor of having a blast finisher (just cus chaos needs some love’n).
Use waypoints?
Mesmer specific mounts… Butterflies! Travels at 1000% speed.
I do agree with OOC speed boost, but I’m also fine with traited manipulation and focus. 24 cooldown for a 1200 blink is huge. Also, you can use the staff to teleport (you need to change your camera), but it’s harder to pull it off.
25% Speed on Signet of Inspiration.
The signet is entirely a selfless utility, this helps balance it out.
Lets take your Signet of Inspiration and change it so it procs only swiftness while ooc.
10sec of swiftness every 10sec. if some how people find that op (seems fine on engi i often stack several min worth of swiftness but w/e) then maybe 5 sec swift every 10 seconds?
I see no reason why a cloth armored class should be among the slowest in the game
We don’t need any OOC speed buffs. I LOVE being forced into Centaur runes in order to only barely keep up with all the swiftness-spamming, signet-wearing, leaping and teleporting zerglings. I think not being able to keep up with the group is why I started roaming instead… and now, thanks to the phantasm nerfs, IC nerf and whatever other issues mesmer’s had to deal with recently, in combination with certain buffs other professions have gotten, I can’t even 1v1 as well as I used to… and if I do start winning a 1v1, guess who’s able to get away and who isn’t?

Unless ANet recently fixed Fleet Shadow, I’m pretty sure it was only giving speed roughly equivalent to Swiftness. I could be wrong, however – I tend to go for Might on Dodge, for my Thief. (She’s a pure evasion build.)

It’s because a person doesn’t have to be in combat to matter in a battle. OOC speed affects how fast reinforcements can arrive. It affects how easy it is to conduct hit and run tactics. It can determine how quickly organized squads can move, if they must keep pace with an important member who is slower.

Because:
OP is correct, mesmers need an ooc speed answer.
My brilliant idea is that Anet creates a Racial Ability for all races that provides a standard 25% passive speed increase. Basically a signet, with different active effects by race.
Leave everything else the same [Except change the existing passive speed skills/traits to something new]- so if you want to give up a utility slot for your racial speed ability, great, if not- carry on.
