Mesmer dps vs x class
Mesmer DPS with 3 phantasms is high, yes. If you want to get big numbers consistently without using minions, roll a thief or an elementalist.

If you like easy big numbers, roll a GS warrior. A bit tougher is engineers dropping bombs for 8k dmg auto attacks (this requires serious group optimization to hit 8k). Lightning hammer eles are great but hard to play. Just about every class (I have 1 of each) has the ability to pull off big numbers with zerker gear/proper traiting.
The only problems are that necro power damage is mostly single target and mesmer phantasms aren’t affected by the sigils/potions that start to make damage multipliers explode. Since so much of our dps depends on phantasms, this sorta puts mesmers at a handicap in really high levels of group optimization. I would say in general though, if you can have 2 decent phantasms out, your damage will be comparable to most other classes. 3 and you will be out-dpsing 99% of the pug party members out there.
Colesy I was thinking ele or war. I know wars come off as mindless, but in my 3-4 months of running dungeons it’s blatantly obvious if a war is good or bad. But if it’s mindless I feel like it’ll be boring to play.
People tend to just look at hundred blades and just go omfgmassivedps, but what you have to remember is that it’s channeled, a bit like how people on here claim that they use phantasmal warden for DPS when it’s just giving a big number over a slow channeled attack and then a long recharge.
I’d hardly call warrior mindless either, you’re repeatedly performing a skill rotation that involves pressing numerous buttons and watching your (short) cooldowns unlike playing mesmer at a high level which is just setting up phantasms, the occasional utility skill and then 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 on your sword. I find warrior actually quite fun to play, though it may just be because I’ve only got like 150hrs and it feels fresh for the time being since I’ve kind of burnt out on mesmer (plus I wanted a greatsword-wielder, and even though guardian can, they don’t use it as forcefully as a warrior which I like unlike the weightless feel of whirling wrath).

Also. I leveled an ele to around 24ish I think, seemed like it was taking me a while to kill things

d/d or s/d boom boom things go dead really fast
Elementalist with lightning hammer or fiery greatsword is pretty much the highest DPS in the game. Guang, Zelhyn and Nike in the dungeon forum have been looking at staff elementalists too, and apparently autoattack and lava font DPS is comparable to lightning hammer too.

My gut feeling while using it is that it relies on you hitting those crits. If you miss them, you tend to get a pretty crap number at the end.

I switched from D/D ele from Golden era of unlimited EA to shatter mesmer.
They were considered the most fun builds, when all they do is mostly proactive rotations.
I don t agree that a rotation is skill….its not a rythm game.
While phant mesmer can be tactic and reactive.
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
Oh I love my phanty mes don’t get me wrong. But I also love leveling characters in this game for whatever reason, and instead if continuing to get classes to lv30 and stopping imma go ahead and get one to 80. Just figured id ask people that are more knowledgable than me about em. I have an asura ele and a charr war, how very typical of me. I suppose I’ll have to watch some more videos or something before I decide ha

From my personal testing 10/30/0/0/30 with 2x Phantasms rolling is sitting right where a lot of other DPS run at. If you can maintain 3x Phantasms you start pulling ahead, especially if you use Empowering Mantras.
Mind Wrack (wont let me spell kittenter)has nice burst but low sustained DPS. This build allows you to switch some traits around and optimize for either Shatter or Phantasms. I run Shatter on trash and if your group gives you a few seconds you can respec to Phantasms for bosses. This uses Sword/Sword and Sword/Pistol.

Funny thing is, even if HB was the warrior’s auto-attack, 3-phant mesmer would still do more overall damage.
Minion master class is just going to be like that I guess.
