I am envious to some story-line mesmers and i would love sinilar skills, and here is my wishlist;

Self transformation in an animal/multiple animals
- could be defense/offense/healing

Making the enemy think you are his friend
- either make me unattackable in PvE and switch team in PvP for a limited time – or better, make an PvE monster my pet and in PvP the enemy switches teams for a limited time (if it is a good player, he does nothing, in case of a bad, attacking it’s own team)

Evil clones! Why can i clone just myself? Cloning the enemy and watching fight themself is way more fun!
- there are even some achiefments, featuring evil clones, just copy those

Hypnosis! Maybe using a weapon like a clock for hypnosis
- great for conditions, or gaining boons, or invisibility (longer as the options we got right now)

Faking my own death
- easy in PvE, difficult in PvP, no idea how – but any option would be cool

More clones!
- do you know the pokemon move double team? (Or attack of son goku/naruto, that works the same way?) Adding 5 extra clones (total possible of 8) that don’t attack, span in random positions, i can’t attack and my attack moves become position switches with the other clones, until i click 6 and all illusions shatter and i stay at the position i choosen

Enemy-portal
A portal that pulls in enemys and spits them out whereever i placed the exit (will be a lot of fun, PvE and specially PvP) – maybe the animation not on the ground but floating in the air, like a black hole/worm hole

A heal shatterer – the clones run towards allys and heal them – but they look like me for around 10 seconds, fun in PvE, strategical ibteresting in PvP

A position switch, either with allys or with enemys depending on your target
-either with an portal opening animation or just a shatter animation

Some mechanics that I would like to see the next mesmer elite spec receive are revolved around tricking the enemy the way illusions were originally portrayed as. To that effect I would like to see something along the following lines for the shatter

Applies the Hallucination effect to the target, .5 seconds for every illusion shattered. While under the effects of Hallucination, your actions will be hidden from the enemy and they will instead see a perfect clone of you. This perfect illusion will run towards the enemy while appearing to cast any of the skills on your bar that are not on CD. Any AoE skills will be made to appear as if they are centered at the feet of your opponent. The illusion shares your base health and armor, but can deal no damage. Its just there to confuse and distract enemies.

Basically, its like a very targeted stealth against a single enemy. For up to 2 seconds they have no idea what you are doing, but also shouldn’t know that they are fighting an illusion. This can be used to bait dodges and blocks/invuln skills until they figure out they are just a hallucination and not a real skill. 2 sec allows you plenty of time to disengage if you need to, or to set up a burst on the enemy.

For the elite, I want a phantasm based elite. Again, it would summon a perfect illusion of yourself to fight the enemy for 30 sec. This illusion would share all of your stats and all of your skills that you have (only the weapons that you had equipped when casting the elite though, no weapon swapping for this illusion). And it would have an advanced AI, at least on the level of the training dummies in HoTM, using its skills alongside you in a a fight. This illusion can’t be shattered, and only expires when the time runs out or it is killed. So even though its extremely powerful, it does hamstring you in other ways.

Sounds great for pvp – and pve, let the illusion cast as well for double damage

Something that applies Taunt might be nice.

I still think it’s kind of weird that Anet introduced a condition that forces players to run and attack a target and didn’t give it to the class that is all about misdirection and general mind-kittening. Apart from the colour, the symbol for taunt even looks like something you would see in the Mesmer’s specialisation panel.

We all do – the difficult part is coming up with a usefull skill that would work ingame.

The best solution, we suggest Anet some great skills, and they just pick what they want.

If just one concrete suggestin makes it into the game, all main mesmers would be happy

My ideas/wishlist:

  • Bladedancer: Axes and tricks. Belly dancing, juggling, and fakirs. Pure DPS role, with warrior-like burst mechanic skills. More here.
  • Minstrel: Shortbow and turrets. Opera and classical music. Uses a special kit/conjure, where he summons a musical instrument, used to lead/control the orchestra (the turrets). Healer role through denial of damage instead of actual healing.
  • Puppeteer/Mimic: Rifle and gadgets. Ventriloquism, puppets, manipulation, and deception. Can transform into enemies, copying all of their abilities and attributes for a limited duration.
  • Siren: Trident (terrestrial) or warhorn, and shouts. Lovecraft and ocean depths. Can summon illusions of enemies, that chase them and copy their attacks.
Elonian elite specialization ideas: El: Dervish
M: Bladedancer – N: Scourge – En: Occultist – Ra: Swampstalker
T: Sharpshooter – G: Sunspear – Re: Hierophant – W: Corsair

Many things have already been suggested in the past but I’ll just put a few which I am guessing may already be part of the new elite spec or could synergise well with it (assuming it is mainhand axe and Mirage).

- Dodge modification with associated traits (like DareDevil grandmaster traits). If the dodges are changed to blurs there could be 3 unique effects to choose from. The underlying mechanic would allow casting while dodging with the downside being no ability to use dodge as a positional tool (ie no jump dodging for position). One of the traits could allow for a short range dash while blurring, another could perform blur on all your active illusions (which one is the real mesmer) and so on… This would also help make the mesmer blend in more with their illusions with smart play as there would be no obvious dodging.

- traits that sustain illusion life rather than summoning new illusions. There are many ways to achieve this which other people here have mentioned so I’ll leave this one.

- modification of Shatters to remove huge burst damage from F1 in favour of more sustained damage from weapons and illusions. Shatters could provide utility or control effects such as Pulls, Knockdowns and so on and damage can be shifted on to weapon skills or even onto illusions.

- ability to swap position with active illusions.

I’ll add more as they come to mind.

Oh a few:

  • House of Glass, basically a shatter for the entire area around you after 6 seconds, undoing as many things as possible. You channel those 6 seconds, interrupting you ends it, leaving the area makes it permanent. The only hint is a slight pink-ish blur/drag to things as they move, but very very mild. If multiple mesmers use it, the duration is extended, even between opposing mesmers!
  • Accelerating Influence. Quickness for 5 players as a signet/aura (has no active effect). Why? Because I think busywork to keep quickness up is stupid, either balance it as an actual raid buff or as an active buff-player role, not as this in-between by-accident “solution”. Hence, passive aura. Also puts more pressure on proper class redesigns if the “buy you’re supplying quickness in a raid”-excuse is no longer a valid gameplay element.
  • Well of Time. Ticks 12 times, full circle around the clock. Each tick, 1 new stack of Cripple and Slow is applied. These stack in effect! Not in duration. Meaning the longer you spend in it, you’ll slow to an absolute crawl. However in turn, the maximum rate at which your HP can deplete is also limited more and more, and projectiles slow down the later it is on the clock, too. At the end the ignored damage due to the ticking effect is split between everyone inside.
  • Masterful Illusion. Acts like a Mesmer. “Perfect clone”. Uses skills, dodges, sidesteps, gains boons, conditions, everything. Nothing it does has any effect whatsoever, not even the autoattack.

Many things have already been suggested in the past but I’ll just put a few which I am guessing may already be part of the new elite spec or could synergise well with it (assuming it is mainhand axe and Mirage).

I loved the last two suggestions. I enjoy the concept of telepathy (most of my fav super heroes and villains are formidable telepaths) so I built my mesmer around that, which is a interrupt confusion mesmer. But it clearly hasn’t come near to be a proper telepath, even though mesmers are proficient in chaos magic and illusions. Being able to swap position with my illusions would be a huge step.

Honestly maybe Shatters should just be debuffs-only, anyhow.

Something like:

  • Mind Wrack: Send your current illusions to violently dissolve around their target, bedazzling them. Causes Weakness, Slow and Cripple.
  • Cry of Frustration: For each illusion shattered, the next ability used by their target within 2 seconds is interrupted automatically.
  • Diversion: Each illusion shattered applies a stacking 4s (2s in PvP) debuff. While an enemy has this debuff, attacks by them have an equal chance to hit any target between the mesmer and her illusions. Strong enemies can partially avoid this effect, and will still apply much of their damage to the mesmer.

But not really an elite idea, sorry.

I wouldn’t mind the damage being taken off of MW if it was given back to mesmer weapon skills in exchange, however Diversion should remain as an interrupt, and not a debuff.

Tbh Mind Wrack and Cry of Frustration could be merged into a single shatter which deals the relevant damage according to your gear/stat setup.

So say it has:
- base direct damage of mind wrack
- base one stack of confusion and one stack of torment

If you gear full zerker the condi damage will be negligable.
If you gear full condi you won’t hit big direct bursts.
If you gear hybrid you it would still be a functional shatter.

It would also help reduce the shatter spam syndrome we are currently in.

Traits and damage could be tweaked accordingly to support more timed burst and less spam.

I agree with a previous post that as a class that is supposed to be messing with people’s mind it is strange that we don’t have access to taunt. But what is more surprising to me is that a class that manipulates illusions has zero access to Fear… Furthermore, I like the ideas of specializations giving the professions access to play styles they don’t currently have. I think the mesmer lacks a melee-condi build since the mesmer sword is a flat damage item. Thus I recommend:

The Terrormancer
Weapon: MH Dagger
Utility: Spectral
Traits: focus on enhancing stealth/speed, condition effectiveness, or augmenting fear. Since it’s a dagger spec give lots of bonus conditions for striking from behind, stealth, or against debilitated enemies. FEAR, FEAR, AND MORE FEAR, maybe even let the spectral trait inflict aoe fear on cast since they are based on phobias.
Visually: The effects could borrow from the toxic nightmare arch with a pink highlight. Focus on smoke and tendrils.

1: Enduring Toxin- (x2) Each hit applies torment
1: (Stealth Attack) Shameful Fear- Applies Fear & Summons 2 Clones that use Enduring Toxin
2: Unseen Fury- AOE Damages and Blinds foes facing the Terrormancer, Enemies with their back turned will be poisoned and burned instead.
3: Living Shadow- Terrormancer removes revealed, gains 4 seconds of Stealth and Super speed. Can reactivate to return to their original location. Breaks Stun.

Heal Skill: Aquaphobia: Terrormancer heals and becomes water (evade 3/4s) and leaps to target location dealing aoe damage and chilling on arrival. Water Field 2 s. Leap Combo Finisher

Achluophobia: Terrormancers becomes shrouded in darkness, becoming immune to blind and inflicting blindness on enemies. Breaks Stun.

Insectophobia: Terrormancer is surrounded by an insect cloud that hits 12x inflicting burning.

Spectrophobia: Terrormancer gains an aura of swirling ghosts gaining resistances and inflicting Fear on enemies that strike the user.

Claustrophobia: Creates an illusory ring around the Terrormancer that enemies cannot pass through. Absorbs projectiles. Smoke Combo Field.

Elite: Agoraphobia: Recharges illusion summoning skills. Next Illusion skill cooldown reduced to 10 s.

I could get behind shortbow on Mesmer. And I’m all for a core class overhaul (which is likely the only way core mesmer will ever get new skills), at least mantras.

If we’re going to get a Mirage, I’d like to see something based around subversion. Remove the damage from shatters in exchange for corruptions, boon steal, soft CC (chill, slow), use F5 for swapping with a random clone.

Then rather than new utility type, let’s see better use of an old utility type: phantasms. They were meant to be the replacements for hexes, and with the amount of boon stacking going on, it’s about time they became those replacements.

For example, a phantasm that causes a target to apply knockdown instead whenever they try to cast stability. A phantasm that causes endurance, initiative, energy, adrenaline to degenerate. Another one that causes single-target damage to the target to be AoE instead, or mirrors damage dealt to the casting mesmer until it runs out of HP.

The whole point of this would be to limit the amount of direct damage a Mirage can do, in exchange for the ability to disrupt enemy defence and offense by reversing the effects of abilities.

If mirage is to be the new name, I’d love having THREE MORE CLONE SPOTS! This would boost the number of phantasms we could have out, making more illusions that would fit being called mirages. And seeing more life draining skills, kinda like how negative regen ticks were a thing in gw1. Like if you’re in a desert and you run to a mirage because you’re thisty for water, now you’re more thirsty as you expended your energy and it’s just a fake!
