Mesmer on solo PvE?
I solo’d an equal level Champion (Group Event).
Don’t let others deter you from the Class. If you have the time watch (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-The-Comprehensive-Mesmer-Guide-all-Parts) and you’ll do just fine.
I’ve yet to do dungeons though, so will see on that. But in Solo PvE, Wuv Wuv and SPvP I’m having a blast on my mesmer.
Of course not!
Use Greatswords to deal huge burst damage and to keep them back.
Or swords/pistol, sword/sword, or even sword/focus to deal huge damage over time. Especially since 1 on sword deals vulnerability and 2 gives you invincibility for the duration of the skill.
Also, as much as the F1-4 skills seem useless at first. Once you understand the Mesmer more, those skills are extremely useful for taking down Veterans and Champs.
Mesmer’s are not weak for PVE, but starts off a bit slow. We do well in dungeons because of some very useful support skills (like reflect walls, time warp, the odd moa bird, null field ect.) and we can solo some very difficult mobs thanks to kiting and clones. We do not have the best aoe’s in the game and in turn have more trouble tagging things in big events compared to some other classes. But personally I find the Mesmer to be the most fun class.
To counter NightFire… I roll Staff most the time with Sword/Torch offhand. Seems the Scepter is the only weapon not listed.
In short, learn about the class, and find your play style.
Tagging in group events, shoot off a clone / phantasm (1 each) at random mobs and then shatter.
Bust out staff / greatsword to spread more damage around. Your Sword does AoE damage as well and using focus offhand you can group everything up nice and tight with your speed line / pull coupled with your warden.

Well.. The Sceptar doesn’t seem to be very useful.. The Greatsword and Staff both outdo it in damage, CDamage, and Range.

For group events also, you can typically stack your ranged clones (in staff) / ranged phantasms on the boss (all 3) and then focus on running around tagging the extra mobs.
I’ve found that just having the 3 ranged clones/phantasms on boss is enough to get gold while me micro managing the add tagging = more loot.
Look at my signature. Playing that spec, I absolutely destroy mobs in any zone. In fact, in Orr, I INTENTIONALLY pull 4-6, because it’s more efficient than killing them one by one.
And Focus give a great speed boost which everyone in WvW will very much appreciate.
I agree on that, I prefer the torch for the extra stealth. If the party I’m running in is slow…. as in no one else has speed buffs I’ll swap to the Focus.
What I really like about focus line, is if you listen (or look behind you), once whoever is chasing you down crosses the line, hit the button again to pull them further backward / knock them down. Gives me the giggles each time.
It even works on the smart ones who go around.
Lol we gonna run around it and not get…SON OF A!
Ahh man good times.
So to summarize. The Mesmer is an extremely great class to play. Just don’t expect to be a tank or anything.
I’ve learned all of the weapons in my short time in GW2. All of them have potent situational abilities, but the combo that I’ve settled on for leveling is the Staff-Greatsword. It seems to be a very potent combination. Greatsword has terrific damage and decent clone prodection, and the staff is fantastic at support/defense and rounding up multiple mobs.
the only area that we lack in is tagging in large, zerg de’s.
every other aspect of the pve game the class is fantastic. i rerolled from ranger and have not regretted it. even had an easier time doing the orr map completions and not because i had already done them.
mmmm
The mesmer is my favorite class.
That being said, despite being able to solo champion level mobs the mesmer is much harder to play effectively. My guardian can take on much larger mobs than my mesmer with far less trouble.
The mesmer definitely needs a serious PvE buff.
100% world completion(did 99.5% of that solo), with toughness+vitality+power trait and up to date gear, it’s east, u can use so many deflect/reflect skill, let confusion stack(F2(3 clones up)+wand skill 3, stack conditions on and GS=deals nice damage.
@Jungle Quack.1368 “My guardian can take on much larger mobs than my mesmer with far less trouble.” read the description of gaurdian(“can wade in the most deadly of battle and come out last 1 standing” there passive regen helps ALOT+high armor class, not to mention the many self heals from spamming weapon attacks.
mesmers are PERFECT in PvE, there very handy in dungeons(im always last 1 standing/distracting, so foe cant regen)
I tried staff condition build and GS power build. I think that GS power build is a bit more gear dependant, I made 20 levels by making tailor and jeweler so I always had the best gear for my level, I usually killed mobs before iZerker did his second attack. However if I didn’t update my gear for about 10 levels I started having a bit hard time.
Staff is a bit slower on the killing speed (I think the damage is comparable it just needs some time to build up instead of frontloading) but you are very tanky and IMO not so dependant on good gear.
I leveled 20-70 with GS power and now respecced for conditions/toughness for orr.
I use Staff + Scepter/Torch for all game modes right now (though the trait setup in sPvP is ofc different), and I find Champions pretty easy to solo.
Staff alone can keep you alive indefinitely. You take a whole to bring the Champion down, but you’re never in any noticeable danger.
