Mesmer open world build
For general open world stuff, the most effective build is going to be something along the lines of gs+sw/focus with general phantasm traits. You’ll be looking at a trait set of something like 2/4/0/5/3 or 4/4/0/6 or something else along those lines.
So the 6 points are for glamour CD / duration + focus reflection?
I propose a different approach to open world builds. The phantasm builds above excel in prolonged encounters and fights where you need extended reflects. I have found that all of that is unnecessary if you have enough ranged and melee burst as well as AoE dmg. This is the reasoning behind my current open world pve build that I use:
6/6/0/0/2 – III/X/XI – II/IV/XI – III
Greatsword + Sword/Focus
Berserker gear, Ranger runes, Force/Accuracy sigils.
All mantras – Recovery, Concentration, Resolve, and Pain.
The GS23 + F1 shatter combo will pretty much insta kill 99% of the mobs in. For veterans you might have to swap to sword and finish it off with another shatter and Blurred Frenzy combo but rarely does the fight lasts long enough for phantasms to hit more than few times which is why I opted out for buffing burst skills such as GS2/3, Mantra of Pain, and Mind Wrack with the mantra dmg modifiers and the extra offensive stats through going full 6 pts into Domination/Dueling. Once again, it seems that top dmg/burst > utility/sustain in pve.

Thanks ill try it out later but why would you spend 2 points on Illusions if you shatter your clones? Wouldnt it be better using Chaos – V ?
Compounding Power modifier is calculated for every shattered illusion individually. First of 3 shattered will still have the CP multiplier off the other 2 that are still alive. However, that’s not the only purpose for using that trait. You use GS3 and MoP before/during shattering, so those burst skills still make use of the extra dmg modifier since your illusions are technically still alive.

I see ! so i should shatter the clones when i’m sure i can finish off the mob? Thanks !
If you have phantasms out, shatter only at the end. If you have clones out, shatter when you can. There really isn’t a set answer because there are always exceptions and niche tactics but the above is a good starting point.
My guide might have been forgotten over time, but the Lazy Kai build as well as the Go Go Power Ranger build as well as the phantasm variants still work perfect in open world.
If you want you can give them a shot:
