Okay. So i was under the impression race has little to no difference on gameplay minus the story aspect and the few race based skills you unlock. Im almost afraid to ask now that i have my human mesmer leveled to 50ish but is there some sort of advantage of being a asura mesmer?

It seems that 90% of the mesmer videos i have watched all seem asura. Is it just a coincidence or is there some reasoning as to why there are so many asura mesmers?

Asura are the master race In pvp there is no advantage to being an asura admittedly, but the racial skills in pve are something I enjoy, a daze on a 45 second cooldown and another skill that lands 3 stacks of confusion can be quiet effective in wvwvw.

Asura Mesmer is usually just a bandwagon choice made for a “tiny” advantage. People pretend it’s their favorite race just like they would pretend Oddjob is their favorite 007 character when playing Goldeneye.

Biggest issue with azura is pvp. As mentioned ppl choose asuras because of badly readable (for enemies) animations of their skills. Though as mesmer u can prefer “biggest” races to obstacle enemy vision

I though pinkish sylvari was the best race, you can make em look like an illusion :p

That said, many play asurans due to the telegraphs yes.

This is actually something I experienced myself.
After 2 years with an Asura I decided to roll a new mesmer and I picked a Charr. It is probably just me, but it seems that bigger races (I also got the new wings skin which makes me even larger) can create even more confusion by occuping most of the screen, especially when having many clones out. I had the feeling I was able to survive more easily than when I am on my Asura, especially on those “hairy moments”.

Keep in mind, you can turn off the character models in PvP. In your settings on the first page, near the bottom, is an option for generic models. Creating an Asura no longer has benefit in that regard.

I prefer Humans or Sylvari, armors look the best on them.

Standard models work only for ranked matches. Not for unranked, neither for practice.

I have over 4k hours on my asura mez, all of my 10 toons are asura. Play whatever you enjoy, kitten the haters. If you lose to someone and blame their race plz /wrist. Remember its a game, we play to have fun. Asura are hilarious and FUN to play.

Because when PvPing be it actual PvP or WvW, asura animations are harder to read, hence players are banned from playing asura in things like WTS, ESL, etc (it was also bad from a spectating point of view). This has been mitigated somewhat since they introduced the option for standard models, but that is only for ranked PvP queue.

Saying that, mesmer is something of an exception at times, because fighting say a huge norn mesmer in a confined area can absolutely painful as your view becomes obscured by these huge norn mesmer clones filling the screen .

If you roll Sylvari then when your enemy defeats you they can sit down to a guilt free meal with just a hint of ranch, or lite Italian style dressing.
