I play a mesmer for my guild Rethesis, and we’ve been getting into GvG (Guild vs Guild fights), usually 15v15 or 20v20.

For other mesmers that play GvG with their guilds, what role do you fill? How do you go about filling it? What skills, gear, and trait setup do you use? What do you rely on your team to do? Do you travel with the “death ball” or do you fight from the sides of the action?

I think it’d be helpful to get a discussion going on GvG specific Mesmer play.

@lowenhigh, I do a fair amound of gvg, I sualy play the gvg in 10 vs 10 but done bigger numbers. For the fights I play tanky shatter with focus on utility usage. Nullfield in attacking enemy path, veil, timewarp are all core abilitys. Also focus is almost a " have to use" as if you can pull some low hå players away from a heal gathering it can turn the tide.

The spec I use is Shatter cat heavy 3.0 and even if this not is gvg its about same playstyle that I use in the gvg,s.

I’m from Deathclock (over rated but currently #2 NA) one of 2 Mesmsers they have going with their 15 or 10 man teams. While I can’t tell you my exact set up… I’m something along the lines of a glamour mesmer, just less tanky with more support. I only stay with the Train long enough to for our 2 forces to meet up, then I back out and do my damage from far away, dropping my glamours at specific times to hurt the other guild as much as I can.

Discussions with organized balanced teams (GvG) 10,15,20,25.. vs same
*with wvw rules(Hearth of Mist lacks stats items,variation imo,)
*borderlands south camps(most unoffical gvg side, small area and npc,butthead boars sux, spectators lagging and decrease fps)

Mesmers in gvg what for.. why.. how.. example:
*Role(Dps-striker[ranged, burst ,spike ,condition],Support[boons, heal, cc-crowd controler],Tank,Bunker
*Effectiveness compare with other classes (except veil and portal [being skill slot instead of class]

Simply question is how mesmers can be more effective in gvg?

imo, glamour confusion builds useless, cuz of confusion nerf
before blurred frenzy nerfed shatter burst power builds i think best. however, now..

*on timewraps use of blurred frenzy(it shorter your channeling half that) get u lost timing to escape and get cc and big damage in bombs..
*mesmers squishy, dont have much break stuns.u need veil,blink,glamours mostly so..
*gvg combats much boons, clearense, stability, cc, small land, just 5pp partying, mesmer sound sux to me, if u want heal damage boons clearence condition damage(fire, confusion,beed) or cc or conditions cc (blind,weakness, poi, criplle..) its not the class u should choose.. what are mesmers for then?

We can be tanky and go with the melees, or we can be a bit more squishy and stay far from the heavy damage.

We have the most powerful tactical tools in the game: veil and portal (and mass invisibility).

We have powerful buff/debuff capabilities (think about timewarp and signet of inspiration or null field and boon removing from gs/sword and traited shatters) and some support (healing mantras and healing/cond removing shatters)…

What does your team need? Build accordingly

Backline harrassment works pretty good as mesmer as well, while using veil/null field/TW on the melee ball

Done this for the last 2 gvgs and it works pretty good.

i know how mesmer is various but it lacks of focusing,

• if u want healer take ele, with mantras (i love, fan of mantras) u lack apm(action per minute)
  example: compare with ele and mesmer with both 300 healing powers; with my personal calculation; (mesmer combo MoP MoR MoP)
  mesmer do %113 more hps(healing per second) than ele
  if both has 1300 healing powers mesmer do %62 more hps
  however ele has %230more apm than mesmer
  so: effectiveness(Hpm[heal per min)/apm[action per minute])
  200 healing power mesmer %50 less effectiveness then 300 healing power ele
  1300 healing power mesmer %103 less effectiveness then 1300 healing power ele
  +mesmer have lack of stability and gvg has pleanty cc

**if u want shatter burster retalation pwn u(however it seems best selection for me)

• if u want tanky go guardian or war why mesmer
• or u want ranger heavy damager imo eles ll be more effective(best izerker low hp)
• if u want conditions imo necros better or(staff imo just good for bombing condition spreading)
• mesmer just unique with veil, portal, what u need mesmer for ?
  -portals: are rarly usage in gvg lack of slot
  -feedback: it lack of slot, gvg has not much projectiles (if u active blind is oke but other classes are more effective with blind spam)(confusions[lack of trait] cuz no valuable damage[if want spread use izerker iwarden to splash confusion] focus trait would better choice slot>trait imo
  -nullfield: works as wells gvg has more buffs conditions spam its effectiveness decrease than wvw imo wells are better corruption + give damage or power + give stability(best boon)
  -veils: always anywhere it works but in gvg u cant ambush others, if u concentrate veil doesnt give much property unless u cant target enemy
  - mass inv: how can u choose it rather than timewrap?
  -interrupts: there are much stability
  -glamours: best for chaos armor(for anti spikes burst) but it doesnt stack with other fields

dunno how mesmers can be used more effectively in gvg? except portal and veil what mesmer are for in gvgs?

Veil/Feedback/Nullfield/Timewarp. May swap one of the skills for portal if needed. If there are enough veil Mesmers in the group I would recommend teleport instead. Build for medium/high stamina yet decent damage. No GvG player should ever be berserker. The gameplay is simple: Follow the guild commander smack into combat (need to be up front). Veil on command. Feedback on the commander, pump out all the AoE damage. Circle around the enemy backline and meet up with the commander if separated, popping nullfield. If timewarp hasnt been used, the second push is the time to do it.

That, I can see.

I didn’t say we can be better than eles at healing (maybe we can in some very specific situations, but not on GvG), or more tanky than a warrior or a guardian.

I did say that, on top of our specific, strategic and tactical skills (veil and portal, and maybe we can include mass invisibility and timewarp), we are flexible enough to fill the spots that the team needs to be filled: we can be in the frontlines or in the backlines or even go behind the enemy and harass their healers and backliners.

And I think that flexibility is a strength, not a weakness.
