Mesmer specialization removes phantasms
You are in love with confusion. While I do think confusion is a mesmer condition and we should have better control with it, I doubt Anet would be so kind. At best if such skills were implemented then they would probably only add 1-3 stacks of confusion that don’t last very long. Keep in mind, unless you can generate substantial stacks it is a subpar condition in pvp/wvw. The highest hit I ever saw with confusion was 5k pre-confusion changes in pve at a boss on my condi build mesmer. Players – giving them the benefit of the doubt – are smarter than AIs. If they pay attention to their conditions they will kite you while they wait out confusion or cleanse it.
As to all the stuns, chills, immobilizations, we would hear endless whining from the other classes (so nothing would change in that regard). But, here again, I think Anet would hobble us with such skills. The cool-downs would probably be 20-30s and the cc itself would only last 1-2 seconds, which could also be cleansed or broken with a stun-break.
That Shield 2 skill – empathy – yeah, never happen. If you have something with high aps or catch another class using a channeled skill (100 Blades or Rapid Fire for example), we would pop clones like mad and a clone death build would be slightly OP. It would just become a matter of where those clones would spawn. Near me? Near the enemy? Near no one?
Hey I play gw1
Mesmers are suppose to be confusing and kitten people off.
Also these are mostly fun ideas just to create a theme
I think Changing the class mechanic is bullcrapp. Its not a specialization then, it an effing new class
But that’s what they said they would do.
Two quick things
1. we all miss the Original CC High Skill cap Gw1 Mesmer that gave everyone nightmares and ruined the best of plans for organized teams with only a few spells.. Anet in all their blind joy or whatever it was Thought it better to remove hexes and all the Various enchantments and debuffs and passive Skills and replace them with Trait effects or a new totally active skill (phantasms for hexes sadly). Smart move? Maybe, but really could have been better planned and better executed. Instead of Hexes and debuffs and a Ton of CC we get Clones and Phantasms and a crippled DPS to balance those things out, with a sprinkling of all the things that all the other classes have like support boons and CC and Conditions etc… Thats just How things are going to have to be for us.. Anet not so much won’t, but Cant change how Mesmer work as a class. I seriously don’t think they have the ability to code it and then balance it.
2. “Changes to Class Mechanics” Is an extremely vague declaration.. I mean extreeeeeeemely vague.. This could mean anything from “All Class Mechanic related Skills now do +1 dmg” Which indeed qualifies as a Change, to “Mesmers can now Rewind sever time and are gods of CC and cannot be killed unless they so wish it”.
But for a Years worth of work, and considering that Anet can barely manage to Fix our Phantasms over spans of years, I don’t imagine they can even hope themselves to remove them form our bars and Animate and invent new skills for us to use. They never seem to have any clue what to do with, for, or about mesmers and they seem to cringe at the idea of Buffing our DPS AOE and non-Active Sustain and even our CC.
“Gw2, It’s still on the Table!” – Anet
How do I say, right now in PvE since the last confusion change I’ve been able to see some number up to 9k confusion damage (without max condition damage or any food). Mordrems trully hate my confusions.
Back in the past when confusion damage weren’t nerfed in PvP / WvW there was a build that was destroying absolutely every other classes thanks to confusion. The build was abusing a synergy between “blinding befuddlement” (which hadn’t any ICD) and “Dazzling glamours”. Well that was back in the good old days…

Uh, no. Haha, no.
Glamour builds were quite strong against large groups, but to say that it was ‘destroying absolutely every other class thanks to confusion’ is hilariously wrong. Glamour builds were absolute trash for anything less than an engagement consisting at least 10 players on each side.
On a different note, the title of this thread is clickbait worthy of a ’ 10 SECRETS YOUR DOCTOR DOESN’T WANT YOU TO KNOW! ’ ad…
I’d actually like the idea of removing phantasms for the specialisation.
We wouldn’t have to rely on them in PvE…
although we got some of the most dps IF all phants are up… this is hardly possible to maintain since almost all bosses use a lot of aoe or cleave
removing them would maybe give us a little base dmg bonus and what i hope most is better utility for the skills that would replace these… short living dps minions

Oops sorry wasn’t intentional. Originally I put speculation: infront but it was too long
As much as removing illusions could be interesting, specialization seems to be a sub-class format because they don’t want to remake and rebalance every weapon for every class. I agree a chronomancer theme seems to be the deal and ‘new mechanics’ brings us some interesting possibilities, but bet on illusions/phantasms staying around for any mesmer specialization, just the class mechanic shifting (maybe as small kittenter for quickness etc, to illusion boosting for those of us who don’t shatter.)
I think/hope theyll change our shatter skills. While I love roaming as a shatter-mesmer in wvw, i hate running in a zerg with my mesmer since we have nearly no aoe. So how about that: Our shatterskills become aoe fields and when we shatter more clones, the fields become larger/deal more dmg/last longer/…
This would solve our lack of aoe while keeping our clones.
If you watch the trailer you can see how the mesmer shatters his clock skill. He poops butterflies at the 2nd “boom”. I beleve too that the chronomancer will no longer use phantasms, maybe even clones.
You can toggle your specialisation when ooc. So it’s possible to be a more specific class, choose A or B for situation X.
I like it.
“Mentoring engineers / mesmers and showing you what you can do with your fantastic class!
Just pm me for my advice! Always eager to help!”
I’d also really like the Idea of shattering aoe fields…
Perhaps they are long duration aoes that have the strongest shatter effect either the longer they last or the faster you shatter them after placing

Im very interested in how they change the core profession mechanic (in our case, illusions/shatters) for the mesmer. For most professions, it looks pretty straight forward, but since clones and phantasms are so integrally tied into everything about us (weapon skills, traits, etc), they will have to get creative.
I kind of like the idea of replacing clones and phantasms with time distortion fields (little rips between reality and the mists – giving the profession a direct tie to the expansion theme) that can then be manipulated through the F abilities. It seems like the logical choice – and could be alot of fun, giving the mesmer some crazy control and support options.
They could do alot with this concept by tailoring each distortion field much like each phantasm is different now. Imagine a distortion that causes anyone entering to see low powered phantasmal versions of creatures from Tyria’s past (kind of like the fields spawned by the toxic stalks in Kessex Hills/Tower of Nightmare event), or a field that significantly slows projectile speeds.
In the end, we will just have to wait and see, but I really hope they change enough to make it feel like we are actually playing a Chronomancer (if that is the actual name) and not just a slightly tweaked version of the current mesmer. I think to do that, they will need to directly address/replace clones and phantasms.

Yeah shaterrabble fields would be awesome
if they add a specialization that removes clones and ai from mes or tweak it so we got hex like aoe’s, ill come back and play my mes in wvw again. otherwise ill just delete my mes and make room for the new class.
