I played this for a little bit when it first released, and back then Mesmer was considered the slowest Profession to get through the story just because it was so boring to grind with. Is this still the case?

Recently got back into the game, and would love to make a Mesmer first, but not if it’s still boring to get through.

It is still more boring than average. The problem is simply that mesmer does not have great damage, and especially if you have a lot of enemies. The class has decent mobility, so the exploration is perfectly ok, it’s really just the fighting.

On the other hand I main mesmer because this is the class I enjoyed the most when I started. So at the end, even if you can objectively say that mesmer is the slowest class to level, that does not mean it is a bad pick, if you like the playstyle.

I always thought leveling a mesmer is viewed as boring by many people because you dont unlock the interesting and fun-to-use-skills until really late into it. So naturally people would start out a mesmer, play it for maybe 1 or 2 hours, then be like “wow, this lame.” and switch to another class.

swiftness 50% uptime …. lack of dmg (huge gap btw mesmer and others to be fair ) , lack of fun skills , or fun skills but on 180-240 CD…..and for what in endgame mesmer is all about buffing / tanking :/

Boring is the last thing I’d call mesmer….

Besides, if you’re so bored with the class then play something else, sheesh. Mesmer will always be mesmer.

I’d only do it once because I hate leveling and world completion… But I’d have been hard pressed to do it on anything but Mesmer.

Although it’s funny when your guardian friend says you don’t need to use so many cooldowns to kill things.

Its still dreadful in open world since mob died few seconds after you summon any phantasm. Then you spent the next 10+ seconds doing autoattack on the next mob. Same thing if you play shatter due to its CD time.

Oh and unless you’re with guild there is a high chance that LFG people will flame on you for bringing core mesmer to dungeons, which is, unfortunately the best way to get to 80 but people will demand chrono.

I actually still like my mesmer in PvE, did the HoT-Story solo, still have some exploration to do…
Don’t really see him as boring or weak.

Don’t see why, i’ve gotten every class to 80 except for guardian and i find them all equally boring to level up after the first run. In any case i’d say warrior was the worst due to being so plain both in weapon skills and utility skills.

As for the time needed, it took me around a week with every class, i don’t remember mesmer being slower than the others.
