Hi Everyone,

I am new to the game and currently my main is a lvl 27 Guardian. I love my guardian pve but not so much in wpvp due to no range and lack of damage with scepter. wpvp seems to mostly be range combat or get rolled over by zerg (Im on Anvil Rock). So I am trying to roll something else for wpvp.
I was looking at Mesmer and they sound pretty awesome and a lot different then your standard “mage” but I wanted to get get some quick opinions on how they are wpvp.
Do they have much range? What is there main role when attacking/def keeps? Do mesmer do much damage from range? I started a mesmer but only around lvl 6 so far and I really dont want to make another class where in wpvp I cant participate much from range (other than buffing the team which gives 0 rewards).

It really depends on your build. Its not all purely ranged although some would argue that ranged do better. Realistically anyone who’s at the front line, ranged or not has a large chance of being killed when zerg pvp happens. WvW isn’t restricted to zerg pvp though. Often you’ll find skirmishers, camp cappers and even escorters which can consist from 1-10 people usually which allows melee to shine too. I’d just play the class you enjoy most.

Their range is fairly standard 900-1200 for weps. Some mesmers tend to bring feedback and portal into battle. Throwing up reflection shields and allowing for better group mobility with portal. No class has a set role although you can mix things up a bit.

Yes. 1200 max. About half of Mesmer weapons function at this range.

What is there main role when attacking/def keeps?

Killing siege, harassing wall people, throwing up Feedback bubbles (note: Guardians throw up the reflect wall too).

Do mesmer do much damage from range?

Yeah for the most part. Mesmer burst sequences are generally short-range, but general full-range DPS is pretty good. Mesmers do not have many general range AOEs though.

Hmm … guardians do a lot more than that, but if you’re not happy with yours then /shrug.
