Mesmer zerg support build?
At least with the old version of thing when in a zerg even if the clones died in that monstrous AOE they’d have a clone death ability to fall back on.
Spreading distortion and using a staff as phantasm will die as soon as there cast in WB and Zerg instances and shattering has a high fail rate under those circumstances as well. Were the only class with a needed resources to use our special ability and to make matters worse it’s easily destroyed.
More of a 1v1 class but yeah when all chaos breaks loose and there is a sea of aoe dmg around you the memser suffers and all you can really do is spam “1” on a GS.
Most people expect you to run glamours and want you to run glamours because they offer certain tactical advantages unique to mesmers.
I avoid glamours… and I can do this every 6 seconds:
Yeah I realize mesmer damage is bad in zergs, no way to reliably do damage. That’s why I wanted to focus on utlity/support.
I do realize people want mesmers to use glamours and honestly I kind of want to run glamours but I find the glamour trait underwhelming. so I just use veil, feedback & time warp (don’t even use null field anymore as its really slow.) but use the traits i listed before.
What does your build look like misterdevious?
Wait until Chronomancer. Our utility and damage in zergs will skyrocket when that happens.
Retired.
I’m running this and loving it:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-R;4ZUV1107RVV71;9;4TUV;0148258138;9;9;0k51-DY10y
It’s very reflect-heavy, which is perfect for large encounters. I’m very hard to land a hit on if you’re using projectiles, between Feedback, mirror from manipulation skills, Chaos Armor, and mirror-on-dodge.
The Mantra trait is also surprisingly helpful on regroups, packing a solid 2.7k-3.5k AoE healing along with some condition cleanse on-demand.
Deceptive evasion is there to give me a little shatter fuel, but I’ll almost definitely be dropping the Dueling line in favor of Chronomancy down the road.
I’ve been running testing this zerg build with a couple of friends: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhAQNAR8dl0nhq0YBawCNQtGLpG05Sie1JHQJCQ5HWeBA-TVyAABW8AAkUJIAXAAb2fwLlfWq+je6Ga4IAwxBBgUAeN1C-w
Mantras provide plenty of active clears and stability (5 stacks) to the melee train. Signets and iInspiration provides strong distortion uptime and boon share potential. Imagined Burden and Protected Phantasms allow you to cleave from range, and maintain 14 stacks of might ooc.
IMO if you really want to be a glamour-bot, you need to grab PU for that 4s veil duration, and 10s MI.
I wouldn’t say damage is bad, but you need to play a very risky and squishy build to do it, and now that we don’t have Triumphant Distortion it’s quite complicate.
I haven’t tested anything for zerguing, and I’m waiting for Chronomancer, since it will add a lot of new ways to be useful in zergs.
About your build:
- First rule in zergs is: Don’t take condi damage gear, or anything that boosts conditions. It’s useless, utterly useless.
- Ilusions line is quite bad for zerguing. Both Duels and Chaos bring a lot more useful things.
- Running all glamours is not an optimal way. Blink is a really useful skill, able to escape from the spikes instantaneously. I would change it for Null Field, since Feedback is way better in the actual meta with a lot of projectiles, and no cap limit like Null Field 5 shared between allies and enemies.
- Mantra of Reovery with Restorative Mantras is much better than the signet. 3-3.5k AoE healing, 7.8k self healing and +600 toughness for 2.75s, every 12s is better than 1s AoE Distortion, 5.6k self healing and 2 phantasm skills recharged every 28s.
You’re sub-estimating the damage mesmers have in zergs.
i7 5775c @ 4.1GHz – 12GB RAM @ 2400MHz – RX 480 @ 1390/2140MHz
@ Ansau Like i said in the first post, nevermind teh armor & stats. But yeah I agree. I’ve always felt glamour being sub optimal. People move, hard to keep everyone in that one place for your glamours to work properly (at least from my experience.)
And I should really try out this traited mantra heal. Seems quite strong.
I just don’t like mesmer damage in zergs. I feel like if I want damage i might as well play another class. Mesmer is better at other things in my opinion.
@ Kelthien & expandas. Ty i’ll try out both. I’m liking the mantra heal so far.
I’m new to mesmers but this seems to be working pretty well. Been playing a bit this past week. Naturally you can ditch feedback/signet of humility and run veil/time warp if your zerg doesn’t have any veilbots. Feedback is just me being greedy.
Stability is a very important boon, and mantra of concentration makes things easier for you and your crew, not to mention it gives you two stunbreaks. I noticed your build has no access to stunbreaks, so it can be very hard to navigate through zergs. Blink is also key to positioning yourself well so you don’t get 111’d to death.
The key here is the trait bountiful disillusionment, which provides a host of boons for your shatters, and the cool part is you don’t actually need any active clones or phantasms to set it off. In addition shatters also AOE blind, which makes it good for mitigating damage.
As for the lack of damage, I think my reflects do a good job, it’s harder to see a temporal curtain as opposed to feedback and the pull is also highly useful.
I may get around to trying mantra of healing again. I’m just worried about using the casts up and having to channel it, as well as having taken harmonious mantras.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

This build is what I’m currently running with my guild
It’s pretty much what I was running before the patch, with the added bonuses from the Spec revamp.
The build has nice damage spike (Chaos Storm and iZerker+MoP and MindStab+MoP) and an amazing amount of support:
- AoE condi removal
- AoE healing
- AoE invuln on F4
- Timewarp (traited)
- Chaos Storm on the spike
Some notes:
- I usually save Timewarp for a defensive spike since Slow on the enemies and Resistance help with survival, but it’s situational
- Veil with PU is great for engages
- Furious Interruption and Power Block are great for spiking down single targets.
- You could go for Shattered Concentration instead to help cleanse out boons on the enemy
The build is punished by the nerf to the staff trait, since you usually won’t get to leap in your Chaos Storm (you drop it on the melee spike and you usually don’t want to be in there), so the cooldown will only be reduced by 10%, and that’s only if you get to pop your Chaos Armor for defense, but that trait is still the best one in Chaos Master tier.

ha ha, I was running the same thing after the patch. It’s very good for supporting even pug zergs. Hope they fix the MoR bug with menders purity.
To the OP, just be aware the slow is not chill, they can run out of slow very quickly. However I really would recommend this build (add knights rings/trinkets if you need a bit more survival) for WvW.
