Mesmers after patch
Just as useful/useless as they were before.
Open World, they can burst, but burst isn’t really a thing. Not good at tagging, but can hit World Bosses hard (triple Warlock). Actually, let me rephrase that. Versus World Bosses, Mesmers are the strongest profession.
In WvW, still tagging is an issue. In organized Guild groups, you’re a Veil/Portalbot. In casual groups, you’re a Portalbot (although you’re EXTREMELY kittening helpful).
In s/tPvP, you’re either kittenous PU cheese or distraction-central the game.
I’ve been dealing with Mesmer’s sucking for so long, but I’m nearing the end of the road. I’ve found Thief fun again, and with basically everything Mesmer has, but easier/lower cooldowns.
Mesmers are great and fun and my favorite profession, but… they’re dying slowly and have been for a very long time. Arenanet is not curing their disease and the playerbase thinks they are the disease, but they’re simply plagued. Plagued by lack of direction, lack of understanding, and lack of cohesion.
To put it simply:
Our class Mechanic is to break our Illusions to gain an effect.
40% of our DPS is Phantasms.
Our class Mechanic is to destroy 40% of our DPS.
Let me ask about one more question – celestial ele/engi are said to be quite op atm, how’s ele in comparison to them? Generally, are mesmers more like ‘ok’, or ‘pretty good’?
PvP (Tournament, Solo), WvW (Edge of the Mists, Solo Roaming, Guild Battles, Zerging), PvE (Dungeon, Open World, World Bosses)?
tPvP, dungeons and zerging.
After 9/9 patch? I would say a little bit better.
pvp and pve are more or less the same, they require a lot of personal skill to be good.
But in WvW the way I see we have recieved some improvements. I really don’t have issues tagging in zergs with izerker, shatters and sword. And in roaming, lots of new builds, some of them OP.

I would say in WvW we’ve seen a definite improvement. The nerf to sword swap still affects the gameplay badly, but the changes to Mantra of Pain and Triumphant Distortion made possible a backline build that can dish out real damage on spikes, and I’m really loving it.
I have a video in the works showing a bit of details about the build, but you can already see some fights in which I’m using it here (last 2 fights) and here (last fight).
