Mesmers get very little loot
He is doing it wrong. Izerker tags a decent AoE and can do lots of dmg if spec’d properly. Our shatters are AoE and also do lots of dmg if spec’d properly. Basically every 8-12 seconds he has the ability to tag lots of mobs with dmg.
I am guessing your friend uses a legion build, a condition build, a hybrid (ugh) build or some other suboptimal mob tagging, loot garnering build. As a friend it is your duty to advise him to do more AoE dmg. If he needs help with a build have him post here, or PM me.
I thought the whole point of the loot fixes in the patch were so we would not have to all go for instant heavy damage builds to compete for drops.

This may be true, if so I was unaware until now. I was under the (mistaken?) impression that they upped loot drops, but that they didn’t lower the amount of dmg needed to get loot. Of course I may be mistaken.
Quick way for your friend to test is to run a fractal post patch and see if he is getting more loot. If not, see my original post.
The change they made made it easier for people to tag enemies. Which comes in to play especialy when a target is being mass DPS’d by big groups of players (Zerg v Scout in WvW anyone?). Therefor, even a crappy mesmer who cant dish it all out in 1 second flat should be able to “qualify” for the tag/loot too.
Sorry op, but loot is zero issue.
one izerker.. s/f for sword 2 and iwarden
rinse and repeat.. Loot is not an issue for memsers
Mantra, refer your friend to Lazy Kai’s PVE leveling guide. It’s a good set up and the loot will start to roll in.

The change they made has to do with the definition of tagging. You used to be able to gain exp from a kill, but not have tagged it enough to qualify for loot. Now any kill that you tag for exp has the potential to drop loot.
I also think this happens to me… I played WvW, with my mesmer, farmed kills, literary I got around 300 kills, ~120 badges, not good farming, got alot of blues and greens, but not a single rare nor exotic, and my friend who came in later, was a ranger, got like after ten kills, he got a exotic…
this is just not fair…
Edit: none of us had any extra magic find
Someone say game crash must be related to OOM
when you read the log it’s not related to that whatsoever…

Thanks for all the advice. Sad that the dpsoutput is so important for the amount of loot you get….It still is it seems. He read this tread now.
My mesmer’s loot has improved after the patch.
But you still cannot compare it to the loot that I receive with my necro or ele. ^^
It is not so much a DPS issue as it is an AoE issue. He needs to be hitting multiple targets. Wrack/CoF and IZerker are our best methods, just so happens that they tend to benefit more from a power/precision build but I think a precision/toughness or a P/V/T build should also be effective for the tagging. The key is just damaging everything.
Generally speaking loot should not only be a problem if you did not get to attack at all.
As long as you attacked (I run Scepter + Pistol / Staff in dungeons) you should get normal credit.
I notice a lot more loot since the update that changed the rules a bit on tagging.
That said, I think the number one reason for me and not getting my share of loot in groups is the delay between throwing out an clone/phantasm and the attack beginning. Often times I’m still casting one of those spells or waiting for the phantasm to start attacking when a few other characters with strong quick cast aoe wipe out the group.
The exception is tumbling into a mob with deceptive evasion and popping mind wrack or other fun.

Yeah, I find this the reason I don’t get my tag on either. The issue is that the high hitting skills take time and a target. A lot of times (like orr farming) people just ground target or AOE where the mobs are coming from, and they are dead before you can click them and send out a skill. Only thing I’ve found to help with this is sword #1 & #2, staff #5 (cooldown way too long) and nullfield.
