Mesmers in farming groups
I dunno really, it certainly takes a bit more work but I feel alright with contributions. Between chaos storm, mirror blade, iberserker, and various shatters ( target different areas of mobs to spread your clones out for the shatters) I do alright.
Sure it’s not running around as a dagger ele spamming pbAOE or whirling through crowds as a GS warrior, but with some effort you can spread damage around fine.
I’m about to make a Charr Mesmer but I have to ask first how they are in farming groups. Tagging monsters before they die. Are they poor at that or is there a way?
Thank you.
I’m torn between a Charr Mesmer or Charr Ele but I find Mesmer more active and challenging as I saw another Player make mesmers look cool in my eyes in battle.
Hmm not sure how well mesmer does for group farming but I have heard that they are sub-par for the zerg farming. They just don’t have enough initial damage or aoe damage for the zerg farming to capitalize like engi’s can.
KK i will try stick to pure pve
In Instances and general at 80 mesmer is a fun and effective member of a team, for solo farming ore, wood and food supply its smooth with al blinks and stealths. Only place we dont shine in is in farming parties of bigger size.
As I despite al kinda of big group framing this fits me wonderfull. A fast ore farm if I depseratly need gold but I rather do Fractals and instances in general as group play suit us so well. For karma I never had any problem, noticed I had 600k+ the other day and I have not spent a hour farming in Orr.
Join the mesmer ranks but not for a farm alt, do it to learn to play a amazng class flexible like a poledancer dualwealding swiss army knifes.

I play mesmer as my main and 1 of the few times I play any other of my lvl 80 chars is when i farm in CS. Mesmer cant compare to the other casters when it comes to aoe dmg no mater how you play, I for once prefer necro in CS farms but ele is nor farm from it, I got all casters lvl80 and I have tried. You can ofc do decent with a mesmer but it is harder to time it right.
Mesmer is by far the most fun char to play tho if you ask me
S P E L L B O R N —~--Necro —~--Sylvari lvl 80
I Kira I —~--Ele —~--Sylvari lvl 80
They mentioned it pretty well above, but you’re opting for Charr!
We get toys like the Charrzooka for AoE, Proxy Mines, and battle roar ^^
Sybol – Healing Bunker Charr Mesmer (80)
Dresdon Honorclaw – Zerk All-Ranged Charr Warrior | Hawke Fullmoon – Melee Ranger
Mesmer can work in these situations.
Glass cannon gear + shatter spam (illusion signet helps here) is still easy outside of timing things but you’re forced pretty much into that spec/gear to do it. iWarden and iZerker(even post nerf) can still help some before you shatter them.

For context – my main is a level 80 mesmer, and I’ve done plenty of zerg events (e.g. Orr). Before the iBerserker nerf, I had no problem tagging mobs with the greatsword. It probably still works (albiet less effectively).
Basically for tagging, spam:
- Mirror Blade + immediate shatter
- iBerserker + immediate shatter
And if traited w/ Deceptive Evasion + Illusionary Persona, you can also rotate in:
- dodge INTO a mob cluster + immediate shatter
The above works best with a 20/20/0/0/30 trait spread, but it is workable with a wide range of builds, as long as you have power on most of your gear. My current gear is Soldiers armor, Rampager weapons, and a mix of Knights and Carrion trinkets.
Let me put it this way – on the Orr events which move across the map (e.g. opening temples), I barely had time to get all my loot before the NPCs moved on.
iBerserker and shatters are the only decent mesmer AoE damage, in the context of mob tagging in a zerg. But, since the last mesmer nerf, my iBerserker is only doing 33% to 50% of it’s previous damage. I really hope that is fixed.
I dont want to be an kitten, but this topic has been discussed 1 billion times.
Mesmers are fine (especially with a shatter build and a tiny bit of creativity).
The real problem is the tagging system – and stupid event zerging.
