I was simply curious as to why the interrupting side of mesmers turned out the way it did. In GW1 it was one of mesmers primary things to do and it felt extremely rewarding to land a power block or psychic instability.

However aside from a well placed interrupt on maybe a Healing skill or an elementalists meteor storm I feel like the effort is wasted and that builds focusing on skill lock down are severely underwhelming. I want to feel like I am punishing someone instead of my 20+ second cool downs being met with their now 5 second cool downs.

Perhaps something along the lines of buffing the damage on Halting strike while merging it with wastrel’s demise and causing the increased damage to apply to the Halting strike damage. Resulting damage could look something like 250 base .1 Power ratio? Maybe a secondary effect on Mantra of distraction that causes damage or a random condition when you successfully interrupt with it? This way you can feel far more rewarded when you consecutively lock down key offensive skills and not just holding a stun for their heals.

On a side note PvE interrupts feel completely useless especially against bosses. I personally would like to see skills that would interrupt a bosses attacks removing more stacks of defiant as well as applying trait effects.

Thoughts?

With regards to defiant, I’m fairly certain that interrupt traits will proc through defiant, as long as you cast the potential interrupt during a skill channel.

I was not aware :x Guess the current system promoted the random uses of stuns to get the stacks down faster so I was unable to notice things happening when I got a successful interrupt off through defiant.

For defiant the strategy is basically use all your weak stuns to burn out defiant stacks then one person with the best stun waits for a good time.

For pvp interupts aren’t as big as they are in other games because of the flat 5 sec cd but they still have their place. I personally just save dazes for when they heal, stuns for my bursts, and dodge if they are doing an attack.

In the Domination line, dazes give you 5 stacks of vulnerability for 8 seconds (base) whether you interrupt or not. If you interrupt, I think you get 3 more stacks. So there is a condition built in for some cases of interrupting if you go with domination – and this seems to be the intent of the domination line.

I still don’t know what qualifies as “inactive” to get the 5 percent damage bonus for Wastrels Punishment at the 25 point trait for Domination.

I do wish I knew more about when interrupts were likely to work. I haven’t done too many dungeon runs, but it seems like you can interrupt the Huntsmans call for his bird attack at the end of the story mode of Honor of the Waves.

gw2 was built mainly for the casual audience and casuals would quit the game in a matter of days if they were getting dominated by something as frustrating. That is why gw1 will always stay special to me when it comes to pvp cuz annoying someone the whole game as a mez or ranger was so funny and made lots of people kitten.

Fact: every Thief tells you to “l2p” when the subject is to nerf stealth.

not really, anet is having problems balancing builds with gw1. gw2 started as a pretty difficult game. If you play beta event1, then trying to fight 2 normal mobs at your level was actually pretty difficult. Beta event 2 was a massive nerf.

Nevertheless, 55 hp monk is practically screams a broken system.

Either way, anet messed up because there isnt that many viable tournament builds for each class on gw2.
