I have been an on and off player since launch and have exclusively played the mesmer during my ‘on’ time. I do not know everything about the class and i won’t pretend to – i am open to my opinion being wrong but i just wanted to discuss my opinion with some other players as i have recently returned due to PoF hype.

I haven’t played in a long time so this is my first experience playing with revamped Phantasms.

My issue is that i feel like the ability update (which was extremely needed) has been executed strangely. For example, most of the animations seem irrelevant to their effect and some are misleading. GS #4 Looks like it should be an PBAOE around the mesmer but it isn’t, Sword #5 is a melee ability but it’s melee effect is kind of irrelevant because the cast range and melee range are different. Then there are some active effects which just feel like they were slopped in i.e. Staff #3, Sword #5. I think Chronomancer handled a phantasm summoning ability really well and the base mesmer revamp should have followed suit but it didn’t.

I also feel like abilities like Staff #4 have no real reason to be a weapon skill now and the fact clone/phantasm summoning abilities are not on the same number keys cross weapon is strange.

I know this is a bit of an unfocused post but i just wanted to share my opinion in hopes mesmer’s can receive some refinement especially in the animation/visual department.

It’s a good post and good points.

GS4 is weird given the animation. I preferred the “by the power of greyskull!” animation, which could have been retained and given some kind of cc effect.

Sword 5 is even more weird, no doubt. I have no idea what they were going for here.

Staff 3 is just boring and unimaginative. I hope it gets replaced by something more interesting in the future.

Staff 4 similarly while at least having some additional component of initial Condi proc is still not worth a skill slot, certainly not a skill number 4 weapons slot. It needs a more interesting active mechanic.

But Pistol 4 is surely one of the worst and definitely needs some kind of buff (maybe we might see one on Tuesday).

Actually sword looks ok. It does its thing and it further rewardsnyou fi you manage to melee with it. If they make phantasms and clones be affected by might and boons then this could be ok.

Pistol is trash ofc.
