Met an Interesting Torch Mes Today
Original builds are the best, this way you get better using your own playstyle. Copy paste builds tend to work but not as well as when you do it on your own sometimes.
I copied someones build before but it didn’t work as well as I wanted it to and then down the line I managed to make my own build and rebuilt it again and again. Now I have one that’s both fun and easy to use.

i play a shatter spec with staff and sword/torch.
the prestige is amazing, strong damage and huge survivability. iMage is not outstanding but useful before shatter. with cleansing conflagration, it can also remove an annoying stack of bleed or other conditions which is always useful.
I run sword/torch a lot in my condition spec (which is my preferred). I use the torch defensively combined with my sword to immob, shatter and of course blurred frenzy. My shatters are high damage but my confusion I stack on does. I tend to use my staff a lot though, since those clones and phantasms help me more with my stacking of conditions. It’s also great for survival.
Figrin the Healer (Guard), Angelic Renae (Mes), Death by Figrin (Thief)
This seems similar to a build I run occasionally, which goes 20/0/30/0/20. Some features of the build, as you pointed out…
1 – Decent shatter damage. Far from the best possible, but it’s certainly up there.
2 – Near permanent invisibility, good condition removal.
3 – Confusion on Blind, which makes The Prestige and Chaos Armor quite dangerous.
I really wish I could work 10-20 more points in there for some Dueling traits, but that’s just how it goes, I suppose…

Fushia, I wish the same thing, although I run 0/20/30/0/20 normally. I focus on having my illusions build up bleeding stacks using the illusions have fury and bleed on crit.
Figrin the Healer (Guard), Angelic Renae (Mes), Death by Figrin (Thief)
It definitely works your way, but I usually prefer something other than OH Torch and the last ten points in Chaos if I’m going to do that, i.e. last ten points in Illusions or Domination and OH Sword.
For me, the major reason to go for Torch is a combination of the good condition removal and permanent invisibility, and I’m more or less unwilling to do it if I can’t have both.
Haha that would’ve been me. I really enjoyed the fights against you! My build is 10-20-0-10-30, maxing out the shatter damage in combo with the prestige can be a really 1 shot-kill to some people.
It’s been long that I’ve been running a shatter spec, as I’m used to condition specs. So yeah, still got plenty to learn, but were sure good fights!
Just had a good fight with a thief barely, he had all these cash shop buffs I don’t know who you are but that was a fun fight. It was a long fight and your interrupts almost got me but I manage to win. Then after the fight two more thieves came and they were crap compared to you, it didn’t take long to beat both of them at the same time. Cheers for the fun fight.
I run sword/torch greatsword as a shatter spec. Ive tried dropping the torch for pistol/focus and going to staff but target drops (stealth) are the most important thing you have when fighting outnumbered.

Maybe I’ll try running this. Was always looking for a reason to run a torch. What runes/sigils do you use?
Torch is really underrated for mesmers.
The extra stealth is a lot of fun, I was running a torch/stealth based build a few weeks ago.
The only problem is that Focus is just so useful in WvW that it overshadows other offhands.
I run a phantasm build and it’s nice to meet a build that is so dangerous. I was killed quite a lot before I was able to learn how to react to it and I improved my targeting skills to boot. So whoever you are if you’re reading this…thank you.
Basically there was lots of stealth via the torch, mass invis and of course decoy. He also used blink frequently. The idea is to stealth and then suddenly shatter when your opponent has no idea where you are.
I was able to counter by stealthing more often myself and using the mouse to target the mesmer instead of the “tab” key (I use “v” instead). This saves me precious seconds when I can tell who the real mesmer is but can’t target since I have to cycle through all the illusions/clones. Plus a healthy dose of blurred frenzy to protect myself from shatters.
I didn’t ask him exactly what traits he was using, but I assume it was max shatter damage. He used a staff as the other weapon set but not often. It’s surprising how quickly the fight can end if you’re careless.
Had a good time today.
I wonder if this is the person you dueled. His name is Twitchy Toes and he’s on Tarnished Coast. I was surprised by his playstyle also. He plays very well. the way you described the fight, it sounds a lot like this guy.

Not the same guy, but the idea of using the torch to stealth a lot and shatter is the same. The guy I fought had a human character and used a staff/sword+torch. The one in the video wields a greatsword instead.
Very dangerous. The guy I fought was literally “Blink and you’re dead” league. Can’t make a single mistake. I’m thinking of running that myself for fun now.
Incidentally as a mesmer I know I myself rely on stealth to break target, but I’m reminded again how annoying it is to fight a constantly vanishing mesmer. It’s not just the stealth but reacquiring the target amongst so many clones that makes it tough!
