Guild Wars 2

So Ive played since launch, got plenty of 80’s, but never played a Mez. Figured I’d give it a shot. I’m sitting at lvl37 now, going to take my time, but wanted to ask: Whats an effective build for PVE?
Because of my level, I’ve only got 2 Trait points, so by build, Im pretty much asking “Yo, what stills/Weapons should I run for now?”
Any help would be awesome.

Since you’re level 37, you’re going to need a leveling build.

Disclaimer: Leveling a mesmer sucks hard. My official advice is to avoid leveling it normally by any means necessary. Zerg around in EOTM, force-feed it rare candies tomes of knowledge, whatever you want to do, just don’t try to level it normally. If you do, you’ll probably end up hating it and quitting before you hit 80.

That being said, you’ll want to level with a power phantasm build. Your weapons should mostly remain sword/focus+greatsword. You’ll want to aim towards acquiring the traits dueling II, domination III, and then the 3 point minor in illusions, letting the phantasms on your weapons do the majority of your damage, supplemented by other attacks.

You can also look at Lyssa’s Grimoire stickied here in the forum. It’s text instead of video, so more easily searchable, and it’s significantly more recent than that one.

I’m a very lucky person because I play GW2 with my fianceé. We levelled our characters together (me as a Guardian). She has a year experience with elementalist in wvw gold. Possibly that’s why she is nearly invincible.

She played who-kicks-bottom-harder with two level higher veterans in Frostgorge cavern (where you unlock a trait… forgot the name…). She can take on 5-6 mobs the same time and just melt them. I don’t know what she does and I don’t know how she does it but man! My zerker GS/Sw+F guardian hits like a wet noodle compared to her “butcher-style” full zerker “go-for-the-throat-and-panic-later” mesmer. Now at level80 things get closer. I have more sustain and I’m durable compared to her mesmer.
But the levelling… I had a feeling that she boosted my Guardian through 1-80.

EDIT: oh, forgot to say: she used sw+sw/sw+fo until Orr than she switched the sw+sw for GS. + + 0 0 + so she maxed out this traits. Blade training, Mental Torment and (I’m not sure Compounding Power….) She had Blink, Decoy and Defender… Full offence with defensive utilities…
