Mirages axe
Why would it need to be ranged to be used with sword?
100% “ranged” power DPS weapon/elite.
I’m thinking the gimmick will be ‘agility’ – normal leaps and retreats. No other (non-Burst) axe does that, and if it’s true that we’ll lose dodge roll but gain blur we’ll need a proper evade option. (And it fits the standard mesmer “weapon that doesn’t really work in classical way” trend; when’s the last time you’ve heard of an axerobat?) ((I am not sorry))
Ranger already did ranged axes, anyway.
I just hope we get both MH and OH, it’s not right that other professions are getting five new weapon skills, some getting them after getting five last time. Having an extra option for both slots would be a nice way of shaking things up… Though I am still sad that we’ll be losing shield for it.
I just hope the axe has 1) a fast attack, 2) deals nice damage, 3) doesn’t summon any clones or phantasms, 4) deals AOE damage as the main attack – as in, hits multiple enemies.

It’s going to summon a phantasm, broski.
Sorry all, but from what I’ve recently heard internally axe is going to be a melee condi weapon with emphasis on strong “mirages” that the player can jump freely to in battle.
Maybe in 4 more years when we get hammer we can have a power weapon that doesn’t suck completely.
When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all.
I’m happy about that.
Actually my main concern is if mirage in general has too many ground targeting skills – I hate excessive ground targeting so I hope Mirage doesn’t have too much of it. At least with Chrono you can choose not to use wells and play “normal” shatter.

You want to play ranger.

There’s so many possibilities it’s difficult to say one way or another right now.
For example if that leak/rumour of all clones becoming phantasms or whatever is true (given that shatters should be replaced, maybe for skills that control phantasms or maybe creating these mirages), and if axe has an illusion generating skill, then it stands to reason that it could become a phantasm. But Axe may have no illusion generating skill, or it could simply be a clone and we retain shatters and that rumour be false. But that’s all my speculation.
Whatever the case we should hopefully find out a little bit in a couple of days – assuming they choose to reveal something about the new elite specs.

What do you mean by that?

Mainhand weapons don’t produce phantasms, they produce clones.
If the axe is offhand, half of this forum is gonna riot.

I’m going to riot enough to cover the other half.
I really hope for some Life-steal on this Weapon…like Necro….(also i hope we get a speed-boost on this elite too…i really would miss the extra speed from Chrono….), but let´s see what they have thinking about that…. I have big hopes for a good surprise…….
Offtopic:
for chrono i have read that alacrity was in the test-phase 66% and to strong so they reduced it fast to 33%….nowhere i read that they reduced it slowly….and to be honest: i dont really feel the 33% alacrity in my gameplay style….and i shatter often…..wished that they push it a little bit…(also wish that they would do something to the staff…in solo-pve it is perfect for hitting an enemie you dont wanna hit….so you have another enemie to fight against…and then maybe another one…the bounce from 1 is really something i dont wanna use..but the only other ranged weapon is GS…what also has better CD and better traits…)…

It will automatically be a good PvP weapon if it provides some port abilities.
However, it can also be like scepter, more about heavy hitting skills but feels clumsy.
I don’t mind if one of the skills is a throw, but honestly I don’t want another ranged weapon, and it makes little sense to do so if main hand pistol is ever in our future.
I’m really hoping this is a melee survivability dps build on par with the likes of DD and DH.
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
Lol I really hope its not an axe and were just being played like really hard….

Why? The weapon is really not that important, it’s the skills that go with it. I’m staying optimistic that we will be able to dual wield them too.

I’m still hoping that we get both MH and OF axe for mirage
At this point my personal biggest question is…
…Astralaria or The Shining Blade! xD
Only have enough resources to finish one precursor and respective gift before release (already have generic gifts ready), and I have no idea which one to go for. Going to totally depend on mirage vs chrono builds and which I prefer.

If the previous leaked pictures of the new specs is real, then it should be main hand since she’s holding it with her right hand.
Was thinking more on the lines of meditrapper.

Both will take me another year and a throwaway alt to for HoT map completion to get a second gift of maguuma (I only have one character).

In that case, go with sword if the skins are both equally appealing to you and the difference in gold cost is not a concern (Astralaria currently costs about 2,950 gold, The Shining Blade about 3,500 gold).
Reason 1: it’s available as main and oh weapon to core mesmer and thus to every elite spec.
Reason 2: it is used by 5 core professions and thus beats axe with 4 core professions (and it’s always a mainhand weapon minimum, axe is not on revenant).
Reason 3: you have no idea if the mesmer axe spec will be fun for you to play (or meta on a more practical note). Nothing sucks more than having a legendary you can’t use while playing as chrono.
Reason 4: unlocking the sword skin allows you to use it on your offhand sword. Looks sweet.

As you said the best thing is to wait and see what builds emerge. I’m not making either precursor until knowing more about skills and builds.

i wouldn’t riot because it all depends on the actual Skill Line, Utils & what they do with F1-4
kitten , wtb class change please. :o
Can’t believe I’m saying that, but warrior/ele/engi and ranger elite specs all look awesome, if not more awesome than mesmer!
But I love the idea of blur dodge and deceptive melee play. Looking forward to the mind games.
Are they really adding more Stealth skills to Mesmer? Really? God kitten it.

They said camouflage – could be for example invisible while motionless or something, who knows. We’ll see soon enough.
In any case I’m not looking forward to fighting against a Spellbreaker – that could be more annoying than old lockdown/interrupt.
welcome to pu meta for mesmers for next few years Jebaited

Doesn’t scream DPS or useful in PvE. Does scream nerfed due to PvP complaints, though.
I imagine things like Holosmith could have a nice amount of reveal to counter, and Spellbreaker could be a natural counter.
Edit: the annoying thing is Spellbreaker could end up being a better “mesmer” than core mesmer. :/

Some new stuff might be given by Woodenpotatoes about Mirage in 1 hour 25 mins.
Ok based on this at 2:48
Axe confirmed and its melee
More stealth for some reason
Some kind of skill that made your illusions (and possibly Mirage itself?) teleport round the enemy and all attack at once.
Some skill that throws an arc of slow moving axes.
Some skill that makes a crystal that you run through to give you an effect and then appeared to throw a fireball(?) at the enemy
Dodge replaced by blur
They only showed clones, so no clones turning into Phantasms.
Most interesting is Some skill where you and two clones spin your staff around and fire a energy ball.
Trailer says mid and close range.

I hope WP shows what’s happening to Shatters – difficult to tell if they’re still there or changed.
The visual effects look cool, though I wonder if it will have that dps that is desired for pve.
Also no off hand axe, so once again Mesmer gets the least amount of new skills, barring some out of left field explanation for that staff attack.
Ele looks like it might have got a lot of love this time.
Well tbh some classes look like they got what players want:
Necro gets mobility, but loses tankiness
Ranger gets ability to “stow” pet
Ele gets Sword and ability to specialise in one/two elements (and a million new skills according to WP…)
Warrior gets ability to say “kitten you” to casters
Thief gets rifle… (kitten I’m afraid of wvw roaming… that thing could make RF rangers look like kittens).
Engi, Rev and Guardian are weird ones, though I must admit Holosmith has me the most interested. The concept of creating holographic weapons and using them sounds really cool.
(edited by Curunen.8729)
Forgot to mention that the ranged axe attack is shown being done by Mirage and a clone and later by just the Mirage.
I imagine things like Holosmith could have a nice amount of reveal to counter, and Spellbreaker could be a natural counter.
Edit: the annoying thing is Spellbreaker could end up being a better “mesmer” than core mesmer. :/
According to the WP post show, spell breaker is basically mesmer from GW1, so yea, warriors are now better mesmers than mesmers are.
Still waiting to see hwo good mirage is though.
While they did mention Phantasms, the fact that they didn’t show any and footage of clones using skills used by the Mirage and what looks like a new staff skill has me wondering…
This video on Anets channel has a different narrator and includes this bit.
“And creates fragile constructs that shatter when touched, creating mirage cloaks to avoid enemy attacks instead of dodging away from them.” The construct looks like the Icon for the third minor trait from the leaks.
I’m interested to see what the new dodge mechanic is actually going to do for the class or how it will interact with our abilities.
Just having a blur effect instead of a dodge sounds more like flavor than an actual combat advantage so i’m quite sure there will be a lot of things interacting with this new dodge mechanic.
Ele gets stances with charge but no Mantra cast time…
I’m super stoked. This looks bad a. Can’t wait to try it out next weekend.

Probably the smart thing to do, a deterrent I’d like to point out is how popular the shining blade will be, in case being a snowflake matters to you and seeing everyone with the same weapon bugs you.
Reason 5: Mesmer will always have sword, it will not always have axe… (presuming future elite specs will be desirable.)
