I’m done with Mesmer. I came back after ~6 month break as an old pro. I had hopes for this class to get to where it should be with rightfully buffs and bug fixes, but apparently that’s not really the case. It seems other classes are better deserved to receive all the buffs and loving attentions, and they’ve gotten better than ever. I feel severely kitten most of the time matching with players of equal skills in sPvP. The Mes is not in a good spot right now.

1. Several handicaps, bugs, and nerfs to Mesmers over the years (Nerf x1)
2. Other classes have been getting buffs and favorable bug fixes to improve their chances of winning (Nerf x2)
3. Competitive players over the years have already learnt ways to counter Mes mechanics effectively and have better knowledge about this class (Nerf x3) – I’ll explain why this is a considerable nerf.

Taken all the points in the above, the Mes is like getting punished with all 3 points compounded.

GW2 June 13 Balance Philosophy Dev Livesteam Notes:
“Sarcraft in the early days – Terran wasn’t as good but once community learned how to play Terrans (i.e. the Koreans) they were really powerful. Elementalist is the same. At first people didn’t know how to play the class but once they know how to elementalist started to dominate and we had to tone it down.”

Over the years, competitive PVP players have all learnt the mechanics about the Mesmer class; we have received multiple nerfs in addition to players knowledge gained on defeating us by simply overcoming the L2P issue. On top of all that, the buffs and bug fixes they received just further causing disparity between this class and others.

So what’s the result of this outcome? At first, the Mesmers were consistently nerfed patch after patch as a way to “tone down” this class much like the fate of the thiefs. It was a way to temporary help relieve some of the frustrations from inexperienced players playing against Mesmers. However, today, the Mesmer is not in a good spot because this class did not receive well enough compensations to bring us in line with other classes. As an example, the new grandmaster trait in Dueling – Triumphant Distortion which requires you to KILL an enemy first in order to gain the trait effect. It may be more useful in a PvE setting, but even then it’s still fairly useless against bosses. An almost useless Grandmaster trait like this does not help promoting build diversity at all, and it certainly does not bring us on par with other classes.

I also disagree on Devs view on Mesmers as being a support class or aka. “utility bots”
Mesmer is arguably the most unique class in the Guild Wars series, but the current state of class imbalance is really hindering how far and successful this class can excel in all aspects of the game. Mes is my main, I WANT to play this class as a main leading role. I believe all classes should have the ability and capability to play this way effectively. This is supposed to be the fundamental philosophy in designing class balance. I certainly did not buy into GW2 for another “Holy Trinity,” because there are plenty of other MMOs that does that A LOT better. I thought I was promised to be able to make any class as a main leading role for every aspect of the game that I enjoy playing.

I have tried very hard to give this game another chance one time after another, and every time I just kept getting reminded for the amount frustrations I have to endure from many aspects in the game. I can cont. on with another TL;DR describing issues in each aspect, but there are existing topics covering that already and buried somewhere…

Lastly, it’s the the lack of consistent communication and acknowledgement from Devs on the Mes forum that puts the final nail on the coffin. Contrary to the official forum on Blizzard, we regularly see “blue” CM/Devs communicating and acknowledging feedbacks from the player base on a daily basis. I don’t see why Anet CMs/Devs cannot do the same. Blizzard CMs and Devs are doing a lot better job in communicating with the player base, and it isn’t just a public relations BS. You can really expect issues that have been raised by the community for unintended bugs, class balance, skills balance, to promoting build diversity and QoL improvements in a new patch or hot fix within a short reasonable amount of time.

I refuse to play the “reroll” spec as some have already suggested, because I’ve pretty much lost faith in Anet at this point. Since our issues and concerns aren’t going to be acknowledged and taken up by Devs anytime soon, we can at least vote with our wallet. For the time being, I wouldn’t waste any more time in this game, and I’m better off investing my online gaming career in another MMO.

I think the problem here is that you’re taking a video game too seriously, especially when you start using words like “investment”.

I think you shouldn’t be reading long and boring forum posts such as OP’s and leaving comments because you’re taking a video game too seriously.

OP, agreed. Balancing this game by the lowest common denominator has always amazed me… One might think that after the initial launch phase and running out of fresh players you should cater to your loyal veteran players, but it looks like the B2P principle has grown too deep into the gameplay and goes far beyond zerk meta and zerg content.

I’m not ready to give up on my mesmer (yet), but I’ve been voting with my wallet for a long time now and am spending more time on other classes.

20 level 80s and counting.

lul iz game y so srs?

not really a constructive post anywhere, ever..

I’m on the boat of disappointment myself. What many new players to Gw2 don’t realize is that there is a veteran audience that played Gw1 for years.. grew up with it as one of their favorite games to spend time on or at the least became attached to it in some way.

there is/was a very large playerbase that offered A-net a lot of their time and well wishes and hope for a better and bigger GW game.

Anet then turned around and delivered something that was not.. perfect, by any means, but it still had potential to deliver on so many promises, and had so much room to grow.

then as time went by many of those Veteran players watched in horror as the community was flooded by a newer generation.. one that does not foster good relations or feelings or offer any sort of cohesive feed back.

slowly anet turned to the newer players in confusion and as instructed by them.. lowered their baggy britches and huffed and puffed and produced smelly fecal loafs one after the other on the player base as per demand by the same player base.

when the player base retaliated and complained, anet forced more kitten on their heads and apologized while doing so, and then again.. and again.. and then the apologies stopped.. and then the silence began as kitten still continues to dribble and drop from above..

This is what being a mesmer feels like.. this is what Gw2 as a whole feels like after 2 years..

this is what it feels like to be a Gw1 vet that has to now wait for Gw2.5.. or Gw3.. or some new MMO to come along to get some of my biggest itches scratched and wants met.

No, Anet.. I refuse to believe that you as a company “lack resources” to maintain and fill out your game. I refuse to believe that you have any sort of QA process that would not bring laughs to the table of other business professionals. and I refuse to believe that LS is the answer everyone wants and needs and that you as a company retain the balls and back bone to really shake up the MMO world the ways you clearly wanted to….

What I find strange is the lack of communication. Not a word has been said by the Devs. We paid for this game, we invested time into it, and most of us spend money on gems. If the devs have any sense of pride on their work, they should address these concerns with the community as soon as possible.

The pride probably vanished when NCSoft took “care” of the game.
