Guild Wars 2

I’ve never gotten very far with a Sylvari because I think they are definitely the hardest race to find a name for, but I finally want to try again with a mesmer. I want it to be at least somewhat lore friendly, so nothing like George Cloney (which was taken anyway). Most Welsh/Gaelic derived names seem to be taken so I was trying to find some Latin ones. One semi-Latin name I thought of was Aethyris Mystrum, but I think it might be a bit too much of a mouthful and sort of over the top.

My criteria:
-Lore friendly (or somewhat lore friendly)
-Sounds like a mesmer name (relates to words like mystery, illusion, etc)
-One word names are encouraged to stick to Sylvari naming traditions.

If you guys could give me some suggestions, I’d really appreciate it. I’ve always wanted to try both Sylvari and Mesmer but I’m not so good with names for either race or class.

Just a note on lore friendly – Sylvari generally do not have surnames, just a single name. For instance, Trahearne, Canach, Caithe, Ceara, Riannoc, Faolain, Cadeyrn, &c. As such, you might consider only using a single name for your sylvari if you want to ensure that criterion is met, such as simply using “Aethyris”.

Fun thinking up names. Don’t got it yet, but a good Sylvari mesmer name…

*Obvious inspiration would need to mix plants and mesmer style. Especially with Sylvari it’s probably ok being a bit of an androgynous, but I doubt you want something over the top feminine. Guessing for the most part avoid flowers?

*As for the mesmer aspect, I see that playing out by looking at either the deceptive or clone aspect. There’s probably some good potential in the clone part. Something to do with overgrowth/massive number of plants.

*Planning to make this a chronomancer? If so, something related to “time” might be good as well.

Edit: So far got two that kinda work.

Groveil/Grovale: grove+veil. Would work just as fine for a thief and sounds like a pokemon (not sure that’s a plus). Does sound a bit like grovel though…

Wolderne/Woldairne: two old English terms. Wold is a forest and derne means hidden.

Sylvari don’t usually have surnames, but they do like to affect titles. They’re basically GW2’s iteration of Elves/Fae Court.

So any name you make could have a title type name like “Illustrious George” or “George the Illustrious”, etc.
