Guild Wars 2

I apologize in advance for asking this, but I am relatively new to Guild Wars 2 (have had it since first release, but have played very little, highest character is only 40’s and I have yet to run a dungeon). I recently made a Mesmer and have so far fallen in love with her. I am only level 5, so I have quite a ways to go, but if anyone could throw me any advice about what stats to aim for on gear, or what skills to pick up, I would greatly appreciate it. I am currently using a main hand sword/off hand pistol and I’m really enjoying it. I also read that staves go well with them. I have looked at the different builds listed in the posts above, but it seems like those are aimed more for end-game and not for leveling. Since I chose to go more of the melee-fighting route, I’ve been aiming for mostly vitality/toughness. Things seem to die relatively easily with the sword/pistol, faster than with the scepter, anyway. Not that I really have much to go on, being so low level.

Stats – berserker
weapons – sword/ focus sword / pistol
You will have no vitality or toughness but you dont need those in pve content. Just learn how to dodge. Most bosses in this game have a large windup or have similar timing for their attacks. Also make sure to watch videos on certain dungeon paths from a mesmers perspective (if you intend on doing dungeons which you should). You will start to understand how to use your utilities and you skills like focus pull, null field, reflect, and time warp.

also if you want to level up faster make sure to finish off areas(100% map completion for an area hearts, poi, vistas) and do storys when your a level or two lower than what you should be.

Always go for direct damage, condition is kind of lackluster later on in dungeons. (Its good for leveling though)

As for leveling, Kai’s guide above me is a reqlly good one.
I really do recommend trying out evety weapon though, see which one fits best eith you! I think finding out everytjing myself is much more fun than following a guide, and its 100% possible in GW2 ^__^.

You dont nescesary have to go dual sword in dungeons, you can be verh effective with 2 different weapons. Its the trend for high dps, I guess :/.

Try mixing berserker/knight/cavalier for later, and see how much toughness you feel comfortable with.
